See the voice the Japanese picked for the black dude? This is pretty much what most people do for dubs, assigning voices that don't fit the character at all, and the emotion in his voice is completely wrong. The black dude isn't a main character who you'll be hearing all the time, nor is there an original version that voiced him much better, so it's not much of a big deal. This wasn't supposed to be a serious moment either. Still a shitty choice for him, even if he's a background character.

The point is, imagine seeing a series that had serious moments in it with this black dude having that voice. The black dude is the main character, and in the original there was a voice that fit him 10 times better. It's not about the translation quality most of the time.

See how the bad voice acting breaks the mood of the scene? That's what's bad about dubs.

I love how Piccolo is Big Green, and how they have no clue what the hell punctuation and spaces mean. "It's Go-HAN you should thank- icouldnothavedoneitwithouthim" and of course, the legendary: "Let that child alone."

Meanwhile, I agree with Mark. That's the way Cowboy Bebop should have been. None of the characters were Japanese in the first place, it seems more fitting. Norio Wakamoto seemed kind of awkward as Vicious for me; his deep voice just didn't seem to fit Vicious's appearance very well, in my opinion. Vicious's English voice seemed to be a major improvement, in my opinion.

Same with Black Lagoon. It's pleasant to hear a black guy voice a black guy; and since most of the characters weren't Japanese anyways- like Revy, Dutch, and Benny were Americans; it seemed to fit just fine.

Baccano wasn't half-bad either dubbed.

Black Lagoon's dub was more fitting than the original. Baccano was okay, some voices were strange for me though. But the Brooklyn accents were pretty nice for it. Bebops dub wasn't badly done at all.

Cromartie High School's dub was done pretty nicely too, if you've seen it.

Kotomi's voice in the fandub is more fitting than the official dub. Doesn't say much though.

Japanese2Vietnamese translation of Clannad VN, done well. The translations made sense, from what I read. I notice, it's just dubs for most anime that tends to suck. But subs, people do great at.

It must be a relief to many that our petty indiscretions, those that appear online and seem to haunt us daily, will soon become so normal as to be irrelevant.

It must be a particular relief to Nick Levasseur, a Democratic New Hampshire state representative, who, according the Huffington Post, used Facebook to offer his rather strong views on anime. Reports failed to record why Levasseur is so pained by the rather beautiful Japanese style of animation.

However, he is reported to have written on his Facebook page these rather difficult words: "Anime is a prime example of why two nukes just wasn't enough."

These reports appear to be believable, as Levasseur has issued a statement apologizing for the offensive post, if not for his lack of taste.

"I would like to deeply apologize for the insensitivity of this post. It was a poorly thought out comment, posted in jest on my private Facebook page," he said.

When comments like this emerge, what always seems lost is the identity of the person who happened to take Levasseur's words to a wider audience. However, a site called RedHampshire.com claimed that this wasn't a mere comment, but, in fact, Levasseur's status update.

Isn't the deepest principle of a politician--and I know not many of their principles leave the shallow end of the thought pool--that of being very slightly careful about what you might say to whom. And where.

Don't politicians know that Mark Zuckerberg has declared privacy dead? Don't they realize what is going on? And now, so soon after this alleged jest, there is already a Facebook group, with the frightfully restrained and almost poetic name "Why Nickolas Levasseur, just why?"

Exactly. They overlapped voices, but didn't remove the previous voices from the English version. Actually, I notice they did the same thing with Journey to the West (not anime). Which is another series, but from China.

One monotonous voice would do an entire series, sometimes multiple series. The original would just overlap with the voice-over reading. They actually aired that stuff nationally too. lololol.

I use the English VAs, generally because by the time I figure out there's the option to use JP VAs, I'm already used to the English ones. Though, I'm not even sure I would pick the JP voices if I knew the option was there from the start... I mean, games with significant amounts of voice acting that also offer the option are rare to begin with, and most of the ones I've played have a decent English dub, so... I dunno, really.

Depends what voices I like better. Voice actors for games tend to be better than ones picked for anime.
