What's up with Misty being put in that mermaid outfit so often? It's done with such consistency that I can only assume something like that happened in the show. Can anyone enlighten me?

It's serious. Kasumi is her name in the Japanese version, so I was wondering what it means since pretty much every name has a meaning over there. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe the way it works is that each name is made up of Kanji and Hiragana, but the Kanji aren't always pronounced how you would normally pronounce them in a word.

香澄 being the right "kasumi"

Kasumi is a fairly common name, IMO. I know Hitomi means 'pupils' or something, but I'm not sure what Kasumi means. A character in DOA has the same name.

Kasumi is in katakana in the series. All Pokemon related characters use kana for their names. カスミ can turn into a lot of combinations according to IME, as you posted. I don't read too much into kanji that are only really used for names (why focus on those before you get the useful ones out of the way?)

So I wouldn't know what kanji would actually form her name.

Edit - But カスミ translates into "mist" without any kanji if I roll Rikaichan over it.

To type in kana you need to install the Japanese IME.

I might try to translate the last two images some time. at a glance, I only got the part that says "Adult Misty" or something along those lines.
