Recently I've started to miss Ruby and Sapphire. Hidden bases, the jump in graphics from GSC, the little things that haven't been reused. There's that one town that floats. To the east is Mirage Island. Corsela thrive in that town. Has little boards that sink when you walk on them. The entire thing with Dive as an HM. Why hasn't that stuff been reused?
Maybe it's just been so long: A few months ago I missed Gold and Silver. Maybe in a few years I'll miss DPPt. :|

Dive was used because there was an emphasis on the sea (Kyogre). They didn't re-use it because they didn't have to. In the remake of Gold and Silver, they just used the original HMs from the original version.

What I really miss is only 5 HM days. Why do we need so many HMsssssss. I'd like them if they had some real use in battles like surf y'know.

Hate killing two spots in my party for HM slaves. What's in HGSS?
Cut, Fly, Surf, Strength, Rock Smash, Whirlpool(WORSE. pineappleING. HM. EVER.), Waterfall, and Rock Climb.
They really could combine Cut, Strength, and Rocksmash all into one. You're telling me I can smash rocks but not a pineappleing twig?
Surf could be whirlpool too. :|
That leaves us with Fly, Surf, Strength, Waterfall, and Rockclimb? I could live with those, since they actually HAVE use in battle.
On the bright side, they gave us Smeargle so we can throw all of them onto two pokemon. Shame its a rare mother pineappleer.

It is? I've gotten it pretty easily each time I went after it.

RSE was my favorite because of the graphics, and I liked a lot of the pokemon.
I also liked the Double Battle feature, the jump in graphics from GSC, and its how I made a lot of close friendships in late elementary school.
After I finish HG, I'll probably play a rom of Emerald.

Well, comparatively. In DPPt, its radar only. So no luck catching it while getting badges. In Emerald it was in that cave on Battle Frontier. HGSS probably have it the most common its ever been with it in Ruins of Alph and Safari zone. Even then you need Strength and Surf before you CAN get it. Not likely to find it unless you know its there.
Once you get to where he is, hes not that rare. 10% chance at Ruins of Alph.

Don't be knocking on Empoleon. For a penguin it's a rather badass Sp. Def wall with tons of resistances

Resistance to poison (Toxic Spikes / Toxic) is bad? Only problem here is, Water-types only were affected by Electric. Because it has Steel in it's typing, it now has:
-Fighting
-Ground
..to deal with. Fire is now neutral, no more advantage there. However, it has better resistances as I.S. stated. Best thing about it now is that it now gains 4x resistance to Ice.
Quote:Empoleon is a very unique Pokémon that is consistently underestimated. As a defensive Pokémon, it has a lot of potential; Empoleon definitely has the defensive stats to exploit its 12 resistances, often walling entire move sets of Pokémon such as Kingdra. Offensively, it is a force to be reckoned with and unlike the majority of late game sweepers does not fear priority attacks from Scizor or Mamoswine at all. Overall, Empoleon is surprisingly versatile and an asset to almost any team.

Nothing against it as a pokemon, except that its fugly looking as hell. I have issues with it as a starter.

WATER, WINGULL, AND TENTACOOL. FOR THE WHOLE GAME. This.
ELECTRIC: ELECTRICK, PLUSLE/MINUN. FOR THE WHOLE GAME.
3rd gen made me stop playing Pokemon altogether.
Gardevoir was the ONLY reason to play ruby/sapphire.

I don't know what you mean.
Charizard: Fire/Flying
Venusaur: Grass/Poison
Dual-type starters are nothing new. The only generation in which the starters were all mono-type was Gen 2. And a little variety doesn't hurt. I do agree that many of the Pokemon introduced in 4th Gen are ugly, though.
3rd Gen was definitely the worst. Way too many water routes, double battles were just terrible before they were refined in 4th Gen, 9879123 easy trainers per route, worst plot ever (even worse than Gen 1's bare bones plot), just to name a few of the things that sucked.

Fire Flying isn't bad, since it actually gives it immunity to attacks Blastoise can learn, like Earthquake. Grass/Poison is akin to Normal-Flying. Even off of starters, its a really common pairing. Ground Water, Steel Water, Fire fighting, etc. irritate me more than those pairings. :|
I liked the plot better than other games. There was actually a difference between both versions other than a dozen or so pokemon and the startup screen.
