Holding buttons is useless now and were only a placebo before. All attempts are predetermined before you go into battle now based on steps, active pokemon, time and other events.
Yeah, I skipped the legendaries and am only going back to catch them now. I never use legends in my team. I put them in a box. Only want them for the pokedex. Its frustrating because I want them caught and away, and they're taking time away from breeding.

I thought holding buttons was useless too.
But when I tried it that way, I was getting more shakes per ball.

I prefer to use Pokemon that I wouldn't rather have as useful party members as HM slaves: Dragonite and Golduck. But this is Gen II. I don't even walk around with HM slaves, not even a Flyer. I just withdraw them when I need them.
