Pitch hack
Quantities and availability of weapon scrolls is so much higher that it doesn't affect the market that much. When you have a 95-97% price drop in Chaos Scrolls, that's a little more major than Polearm deflation.

Regaurdless, buying hacks stuff is buying hacked stuff, L>consistancy in enforcement. ALSO i would like to point out to you that Merchants buying and reselling DO NOT CAUSE ANY MORE CHAOS SCROLLS TO BE ENTERED TO THE MARKET. Nor do merchants cause the price to deflate. Blaming merchants is like blaming toyota for making the get away car the bank robbers used.

Let me make things a bit simpler for you guys. Say hackers kill pink bean and sell the 3 rock of times. Merchants buy and resell them. no matter how many times they are bought and resold, there are still only 3 rock of times. Merchants don't make more rocks of time, they don't use them to make stuff. People who use them to make stuff gain an unfair advantage in the game by having something that is only able to be obtained by hacking (timeless weapons). So the 2 groups who fk up the game are the people who are hacking pink bean and the people USEING the rocks of time to make timeless weapons for them to use. The merchants just do the exact same thing they do every day with every item, they buy and sell. Merchants don't cause more pink beans to be killed, merchants don't add timeless weapons to the game.
=o i thought it wud be obvious. chaos are supposed to be rare, hence ppl buy 2x drop cards to hunt them. 60% scrolls on the other hand, who would buy 2x drop to hunt? anything that affects their revenue will be dealt with harshly.

tl;dr- too many chaos = less ppl buy 2x drop = nexon no happy, 60% = nobody buys 2x drop to hunt = nexon don't care

;D

Had there been no participation from merchants, there would only be 2 parties involved, much easier to track after and pass judgment on at any given time. The fact that it's a common phenomenon nurtures temptations, and thus promotes sales, or crime/offense commitment, so to put.
> Person A, B and C are well known for selling cheap Chaos Scrolls in bulk, something must be fishy and I have a bad feeling about this.
> Chaos Scrolls are being sold cheap in bulk all over the places, something is fishy but how the hell will the punishment reach me?

Regardless, no excuses change its nature of deliberating making use of a glitch for personal benefits.

Both parties deserve punishment. Right now you're arguing the code of the federal government, USA"s constituition to an extent. Let's say X makes a lot of counterfeit money, I transfer knowing something's up that he's giving me 40$ for a bottle of coke. But I take it anyway because it's profit. I then go to subway to buy a new soda, the dollar looks conterfeit, bam I'm in pomegranate. If person I originally transfered for the counterfeit money is caught, he'll be prosecuted. Now I'm sure through explanation especially for $8 the most you'll get is a police report. However it is an extreme, therefore this situation's actions will differ as will the results.

However I am extremely skeptical those who used this hack were just slapped with a temp.

Again i remind you that if merchants were not merchanting chaos they would be merchanting any and everything, the only people who personally benifited were the people who used the scrolls to upgrade items (who were not banned at all) and the actual hackers creating the scrolls. The thing that pisses the most people off is the inconsistancys in the enforcement. its OK to merch all items made by the summoning hacks but not the pitch hack? merchanting hacked items should be bannable or not bannable, not subjective.

Dustbunny the problem with your arguement is that its there are no forms of conterfit money that is legal to own. and there is no way for merchants to tell the difference between real and counterfit chaos. for example, i had 20 chaos for weeks befor this hack came out, but i got banned for having them and not participating in any way in this hacking or mechanting.

Kalovale yeah it would be easier, but lets not confuse nexon's lazyness for a banable offense.

You can't compare the past with this because in the past Nexon believed it had great social status within the game. With the GM hacked, accounts being hacked, and many other courses of events they now feel pressured to up their game and deal with it. Also you have to consider, duplicating a bunch of stars and dark crystals will have minimum effect on the market in comparison of something that's ingame value and rarity is equal to 100m. Also something like a chaos scroll will turn the economy on its side and pineapple it until it stops screaming.
Hope4 Wrote:Blaming merchants is like blaming toyota for making the get away car the bank robbers used.

If someone buys your car for $2,000,000 and it turns out they stole the money (and used it as a getaway car), then yes you are partly responsible for the crime.

Nexon can't and shouldn't have to differentiate between "legit" players who just happen to have 600 hacked scrolls, and "illegit" players who spawned their own chaos scrolls and Duey'd them to their other account. It's the same scrolls, neither person was forced to have them. I don't think a permanent-ban is the right solution in either case, maybe a temp-ban while they sort out who did what. By banning everyone with some number of chaos scrolls, they ensure that they can get rid of them properly (maybe track where they came from, since there's probably some marketer out there who's honestly not at fault here).

The other situation you mentioned, PB getting hacked - uh, that kinda happened on Bera when Zakum came out, and I think other servers as well. The legit players knew Zakum hadn't been killed yet, so they didn't buy the weapons it had dropped.
It's fine to punish people for there mistakes but they made a zero tolerance policy without informing anyone, when they were so relaxed with punishments before. It's just pathetic that a company would care so little about its most loyal of players who have no history of ever using a hack before, spend tons of money on nx, and leave no room for anyone to ever make a mistake. If there going to perm ban everyone for this they better start perm banning every player who is under 18 years old then.
I think this thread is getting pointless

pissed off merchants who got baned will always complain no matter what so i don't see the point of arguing with them...

u bought illegit items, you got caught, you got banned, get over it

Punishment is often inconsistent. Are all muggers, robbers, rapists etc. in jail? Just like it's impossible to catch all offenders in real life it is hard to catch everyone that makes a bannable offense in maple. However, that doesn't make the punishment to the ones caught invalid, it's better to punish some than punish none.
King Wrote:u bought illegit items, you got caught, you got banned, get over it
What if they bought legit ones earlier, before the prices massively dropped?

I'm sure a lot of people that had Chaos scrolls stored before this event saw what was going on right after the first signs of the hack, so they decided to mass sell so that their loss wouldn't be that great. Good people got caught in the crossfire, Nexon's action to solve this was not the best. Now they're pleaded their case and their just being ignored and forced to submit a ticket that will be resolved God knows when.

Right now, if I remember correctly, one of my character has nearly 100 30% Bottom HP scrolls and around 70 10% 1H Axe scrolls. If there was some event that glitched up or through hacks you'd be able to massively reproduce those scrolls, Nexon saw this and instantly banned people that had more than 70 30% Bottom HP scrolls, that would mean I would be banned. Would that be fair to me, seeing that I haven't played in such a long time and obtained those scrolls more than a year ago?

By the way, I got those scrolls off Baby Typhoons when Crimsonwood Keep was released.
I can't even log onto the game now that the server check is over Tongue

what i am saying is its like giving 2 people different punishments for rape depending on if they raped a street walker or some politions daughter. rape is rape. nexon is saying that merchanting hacked 60% scrolls is ok and merchanting chaos scorlls is not. the merchant did not hign differnet, same thing different day.
Hope4 Wrote:what i am saying is its like giving 2 people different punishments for rape depending on if they raped a street walker or some politiions daughter. rape is rape.

All crimes are based on context. If a mentally disabled person raped someone should they be put in jail with everyone else for a set amount of time? Punishment is typically based on precedent but when the "crime" is as large in scale as this one, they have to punish whoever they can.

If you're caught with stolen goods in real life then you'd be punished too. The police (or nexon in this case) have no way of knowing whether you stole the items yourself, or if you bought them while knowing they were stolen. Since assuming innocence wouldn't help the game, they were forced to assume anyone holding the items was knowingly guilty.

How so? With partly responsible you mean to say that me selling my Subaru for $2,000,000 makes me an accessory even though I had no knowledge that the money was stolen? Don't think so.
Also, using the car as getaway would have happened after the sale. What someone else does with property after it changes hands has no bearing on my culpability.

[Full Disclosure - I could not resist the temptation to own 100 chaos scrolls for that cheap and yes I did get permabanned. Bad choice on my part :-)]

Nexon's decision to punish all in possesion was likely based on the fact that it was a lot easier/cheaper to do then to investigate and determine who hacked the scrolls and who was trying to take advantage of the artificially cheap prices. The sheer number of MTS transactions that would require analysis would cost a lot more than a simple

update player
set status = banned
where (select count from inventory where itemid=chaosscroll and player=playerign) > 0

or something to that effect. It's the same type of response as with the duped mesos. Carpet bomb first ask questions later if at all.

Really? Hm, I guess you were caught in the crossfire in this case. I apologize if I came across as "if you were banned and you're guilty" you obviously an exeption. I would assume that you aren't justfying players who did abuse this event as 'innocent' so I really have no rebuttle that would result in any conflict. Nexon's job was hish hashed but it's better than nothign, that's all I got to say on the matter. I apologize for you inconvience though, it is in fact not right.

How do you expect the police to react when you have a bunch of stolen money that you claim you received in return for your car? They'll definitely take you in for further questioning...
Stereo Wrote:How do you expect the police to react when you have a bunch of stolen money that you claim you received in return for your car? They'll definitely take you in for further questioning...

exactly, nexon bypasses all that and gave out death sentances without any investigation.
Stereo Wrote:How do you expect the police to react when you have a bunch of stolen money that you claim you received in return for your car? They'll definitely take you in for further questioning...

In that case a good laywer and 'innocent until proven guilty' will do me just fine and I would have my day in court. In Nexon's case, not so much.

My point here is that Nexon's way of dealing with the problem created by duped materials doesn't help their business in the end. Real money was spend to obtain the NX that I used to purchase the chaos scrolls. I'm not the only one who decided to take a chance and had it backfire. Do you think I will be spending any more real world cash on this game? How many other players will no longer be financially supporting the game? Nexon's failure to act in a timely fashion shows how little they care about the game.
