My tastes > Your tastes, always. These arguments are dumb and get nobody anywhere. Not everyone has the same tastes, and you shouldn't care that other people don't have the same tastes as you. Just because you like something doesn't mean everyone will, and just because you hate something doesn't mean everyone will. You can have a piece that you regard as your absolute favorite, but you should realize that not everyone will find it as breathtaking as you do.

It's a silly argument, like arguing over why your dad can beat up some other kid's dad.

Billy: My dad works as a mechanic, so he lifts stuff all day and does manly work!
Bob: Oh, really? Well, while your dad is busy lifting wrenches, my dad lifts weights after fu[size=2[cking[/size] my mother in the nose because he's so awesome.
Billy: OH YEAH?! WELL MY DAD IS MY MOM!
Bob: You think he's SOOOOOOO cool! Does your dad love you tenderly at night like my dad does!?
Billy: YEA- wait, what?

I like this song, and I don't give a damn if nobody else does. I don't care what you think of me for liking this song, and I acknowledge that not everyone will like it.

Having the "x is shit automatically because it belongs to y" is thinking that does nothing but make you hate something without trying it. You have the mindset that it won't interest you, so don't take it seriously. Under normal circumstances you may have liked it. But by this point, even if you gave it a try, you'd have the thought in your head that you won't like it, so you don't really give it a serious shot at winning you over.

That's not to say I'm not guilty of doing this. I'm sure everyone has something they dislike deep down inside and wont seriously give a chance to appeal to them.

Avoidant Wrote:In most conversations like these, the people scoffing at mainstream music tend to list metal as their preferred genre. I honestly wish I took screenshots of threads like these just so I could show you all of them. I didn't mean to insult the genre, just the fans who can't shut up about it.

I don't have a preferred genre of music. I hardly even know how to group music into categories (difference between Techno and "house" music?). I just listen to whatever I listen to. If I like it, I like it. This means my song library has a wide variety of songs I like, that could range from rock/metal to calming orchestrated pieces, to whatever the hell else. I don't care to look up what genre the songs I like are. I like what I like and that's all that matters to me.

That Yotsuba person made a point. If you like something, don't expect others to always like it. If they do, that's cool. If they don't, well, walk away or shrug at it. I enjoy drinking, but I know not everyone does. So I don't openly ask everyone to go drinking with me, unless I know they might enjoy it. No such thing as superiority when it comes to interests, better to look for common-grounds.

Kuro no Liliana ~Melancolia~
I thought all the tags would remain when I converted it from FLAC to MP3, but apparently it only kept the track number as the song name. Don't know why it would do that.

Greg Wrote:No she's not. She's mainstream garbage.

David Bowie did the "I'M SO DIFFERENT" act first, only he's an actual artist.

Im sorry if pokerface, just dance, paparazzi and bad romance charted number 1 worldwide when they were released.

Artist > music major. And if you say her songs are garbage, youre saying some songs by many other artistes she wrote for are garbage too. And that includes britney spears(the person intended to sing telephone).

pomegranate. I go away for a few days and come back to this.

All I'll say is Avoidant, I think I'm fairly aware of myself, but I'll acknowledge it since you bothered to mention my attitude: I am very pretentious when it comes to music I like. Whatevs. It's in my nature. I'll defend things like you saw me do earlier in this thread, but I won't try and shove something down peoples' throats if they still hate it after they've heard me out. Not like Greg's .jpg above.

Oh and Rick, no hard feelings? Everyone's entitled to their opinion. And I love classical music like no other. I've played alto sax for over a decade and have performed in a number of shows and musicals. My iPod's fairly diverse.

Allow me to shed some light on the 10 minutes I'm never going to get back.

The girls have so much pineappleing makeup that I nearly puked. They look like plastic doll with the wrong coloring. Their swagger makes them look absolutely retarded and drunk. These are not the type of people who should be exemplified as role models. In fact, if I saw them on the streets of San Francisco, I'd probably think they're not only whores, but lowly drug addicts. At least I'd respect a whore if she weren't... disgusting like those two idiots prancing around the video.

The storyline was horrible. These two girls start in a jail, though we don't know why. She's hardly wearing any clothing, and the police strip her AFTER she's in the jail cell, which is completly inaccurate and only serves to make the content sexual. We don't know why the girls are fighting, and suddenly the whole thing is interrupted when Gaga starts singing. Then the storyline changes to some utter escape bullpomegranate where she poisons everyone in the restaurant for no apparent reason.

Also, apparently there were tons of ads in there if you were paying attention. I saw ads for Target, Polaroid, Budlite, and even Popeyes chicken. Wth are they doing there?

So basically the only thing the video is even remotely worth watching for was the sexuality. And the girls were piss poor ugly. Holy crap.

Everyone has different tastes in music.

Everyone likes different things.

Okay? Arguing what music genre is better is like the ol' 360 vs PS3 vs Wii debate; circle vs suqare vs triangle. No answer is the right answer.

Rick, we've discussed this before - Lady Gaga can sing. We've all seen/heard her sing Pokerface among other things live - no editing and we know she can sing. Sure, she autotunes her music and sh'it but oh look, she's making millions. She's smarter than you. I don't see you making millions from your classical, do you?

The people behind Nexon are smarter than you. Both she and Nexon prey off weaker people.

Myles, in Rick's defense making money =/= talent, though I do agree that GaGa has more natural talent than most millionaire artists out there (I'm looking at you, Lil' Wayne).

Oh and Harrison, the video is a sequel to the Paparazzi video. You would understand why she's imprisoned if you watched that.

I know making money =/= talent, but Lady Gaga has talent BUT she's hiding it away to make money. I don't blame her.

Oh Myles. What a ridiculous reply.

I'm 18 and still in training, that's hardly a fair comparison. If you'd like, I CAN show you people making millions from Classical. And I never disputed the fact she can sing. She can sing very well. Her songs just suck. Including Pokerface. I also don't see how you can make the judgement that she is smarter than me.

No. Ten minutes wasted is enough for me.

Oh and before you go apeshit on me like you did to DrOmega in that other thread:

Rolleyes Lil' Wayne is actually very clever with his word play/puns in his raps. Tha Carter III also received huge critical acclaim (average score of 84/100, compared to GaGa's 71/100 and 76/100 for her two albums) and sold 1 million copies in a week.

I like Lady GaGa's music but the more I see her the more I dislike her gimmick. In her early days (around the time of her Miss Universe performance) she was different but not "OMG LOOK AT ME LOL".

Everyone has different tastes, but people's tastes are an indicator of the kind of people they are. Personally, I don't think I'd get along with someone who likes this kind of music.

But, that's like 70% of teens/young adults 21 and under!
