I think Planetarian can be translated from the disk as well, if you're interested.
I'll look into Symphonic Rain.
From what I've been told, the only patch that exists for Planetarian works only for the download version.

Uh, as in VN games? I've been interested in Toradora, since I haven't seen the anime yet. Too bad VNs don't normally make it to the states unless it's an extremely wanted VN developed by an extremely well-known company. The only one I think will be coming out is that Disgaea VN one, starring that Prinny.

How long did it take you to finish Symphonic Rain? I don't think I'll read it but I did download the album, which is pretty nice.
I've read Chaos Head, Planetarian, Ever 17, and Katawa Shoujo Act 1, but after Ever 17, I'm reluctant to to touch another VN. It was a great read, for sure, but it took a lot out of me. There's the time issue, since they take awhile. And the aftereffect was worse than marathoning anime or reading a book, so I don't want to have a crash like that during the school year. I am looking forward to the completed Katawa Shoujo though, and maybe I'll look into another VN during the summer.

Katawa Shoujo Act 1 and Saya no Uta.
And of course, you know about me and Kikokugai.
I'd like to look into Chaos Head, Stein's Gate, Higurashi's sound novels, Seacats's sound novels, and Clannad at some point.

In fact, most translation patches of VNs work with the disks. After all, the translation is free, but translation groups usually promote buying the disk for their translation. After all, they liked it so much they decided to bring it to the English community, so of course they'd want to encourage people to support the creators.
That, and also there's the fact that most VN downloads that are pirated are just rips from the CD itself anyway, so you usually do have the CD in virtual form if you downloaded it.

Read above. You don't have to download them illegally to enjoy the patches...but nothing is saying you have to buy em...

The one they made for the PSP? Yeah, that'll probably never be translated. PSP VNs are almost never worked on at all, and usually end in failures because of how much of a pain it is to hack PSP games. On top of that, the translation would only go out to those who own PSPs, so all the work would be for a relatively small audience anyway.
VNs almost never make it to the states, they don't sell here. Most VN translations are fan works. Toradora seems like it wouldn't be too hard to read with ATLAS either.

Symphonic Rain had maybe 12 hours of reading to finish every route? Around there, maybe a bit less. When I read novels in general I kinda like savoring the text at times, so I'm not too fast of a reader. The routes aren't long at all. There's 6 routes in the game, but the last 3 are a bit shorter than the first 3. It's certainly shorter than Ever17. I would say it's a bit shorter than Chaos;Head.
I would recommend at least giving it a shot for a while. I felt the last routes were really well done and thought out.
The longest VN I read has probably been Fate/Stay Night or Tsukihime...those two are monsters to read through. I'm pretty sure I posted on these earlier. There was also some other VN I tried before that was really long, but I stopped after 5 hours of reading or so. There were so many choices to deal with. I usually play through with my gut feeling and don't use guides unless I keep repeating a BAD END and can't figure out what I'm doing wrong. I checked out the guide, and got a headache just trying to read the confusing flow chart. I wish I remember which one it was...

Still having Kikokugai problems, or haven't been able to test it out yet because of people kicking you off to play as Lex Luthor?

Haha, no. Anything related to this game I have to do in secret and when there's no one near me to see what I'm doing. I don't want my parents to believe I'm going to f'uck up the computer with all this weird stuff have to do to be able to play this visual novel, and if they wonder what it is, they would be less than pleased to hear what it's all about. Haven't had too many of those moments lately.

You can always try some non-ero VNs in the meantime. I have a few all-age ones.
Edit - Forgot to mention that I did dedicate about an hour or so of my Symphonic Rain playthrough by playing songs over and over until I could get them 100% perfectly without missing a note. This isn't required, you can miss a few notes and still pass the song (or even put it so songs auto-play for you if you want). I just wanted to do it this way because I liked the songs, so kinda wanted to play without messups.

(I know this thread is a few months old, but I wanna talk about VNs, so...)
Almost done Clannad, as I have been for months, though now I'm playing again. Only Akio route + final end to go. Maybe Kanon after that.
As far as Umineko, I'm still only halfway through 3, playing a little every few weeks. Now, since 1-4 are having their translations fixed up due to parts of 6 showing things that should have been considered more important, and since this will likely happen for 7 and 8 as well, I'm debating just waiting till 8's fixes happen and then just playing straight through all of them. Or just finishing 1-4 now, then replaying straight through after the fixes. Not really sure yet.
