Also I can't help but notice. It only takes 4 EVs to gain 1 stat point. Not 6.

It is 6, I'm 100% positive. At least for R/S/E anyways. I never did anything above that. Unless they now changed it to 4. o_0;

Generation I & II

The EV system was introduced in Generation I, where it was also called stat experience or Stat Exp.

The Pokémon data structure contains two EV bytes for each the five stats (HP, Attack, Defense, Speed and Special), starting at zero when caught and with a maximum EV of 65535 for each stat, however, maximum stats will be reached with only 63002 EVs. When a Pokémon is defeated, its base stats are converted to effort points and then added to the EVs. For example, defeating a Mew grants 100 effort points to each EV. (Defeating 631 Mew, therefore, will give a Pokémon maximum EVs in each stat.)

EVs are factored into the Pokémon's stats when it levels up. Additionally, EVs are calculated into stats when a Pokémon is taken from Bill's PC; this is called the box trick. A Pokémon which reaches level 100 can continue to accrue EVs up to the maximum of 65535 in each stat, and use the box trick to have those EVs factored in.

Vitamins add 2560 to one stat's EV, but cannot raise a stat above 25600. Unlike later games, the Exp. Share did not share EVs.

At level 100, the formula for determining the stat difference between a Pokémon trained in that stat and an untrained Pokémon is:





Generation III

Generation III completely overhauls the effort value structure. Effort points are now separate values from the base stats. Defeated Pokémon give out 1, 2 or 3 effort points to a particular stat, depending on species (see list of Pokémon by effort value yield). However, in battles that do not give any experience (such as in the Battle Tower or if the Pokémon is level 100), Pokémon will not gain any effort points. At level 100, a Pokémon's stats will be one stat point higher in a specific stat for every four effort points gained in that stat.

Oh also, for generation 3+, if a pokemon is not level 100, 4 points will only give a pokemon a boost of:

[EV*(100/level)]/4 So at level 50, 4 points will only be half a point. 8 points will be 1 stat.

This completely amuses me, because I read so many guides saying it's 6. I even played NB to make sure, they even said it was 6. <_< The entire battle system was 6-to-1 stat conversion. I don't know what to think at this point ;~;

Effort Values (EVs)

EVs are "invisible" numbers that can increase a Pokémon's stats. Every 4 EVs in a particular stat is equal to 1 point in that stat. Every Pokémon is capable of having a maximum of 510 EVs with a maximum of 255 EVs in any one stat. Note that neither 510 nor 255 are numbers that are divisible by 4. This means you only need 508 EVs total (252 EVs in any one stat) to have a completely EV-trained Pokémon. The remaining 2 EVs are useless.

This depended on when you started reading. When R/S first came out, on forums I went to (Gamewinner's), there were a bunch of people that stated it was 6. When I played NetBattle, it was even 6-to-1. This was years ago (like 4-5).

I might be overloaded with this game. I've only really played Yellow and Gold... It will take me some time to get used to it all.

Here's another item that make EV Grinding/Training a breeze. If your Pokemon is equipped with a Macho Brace, the amount of EV you get will be doubled.

Like let's say you're training your Combuskin at Route 114 (Ruby Version). You're fighting Nuzleaf and Zangoose for Attack EV. With the Macho Brace equipped on your Combuskin. He/she is going to receive 4 EV of attack from Nuzleaf and Zangoose he/she defeated.

Ah, If its 4, thats probly why I assumed it was 2 pokemon = +1 stat, because I always went after pokemon that gave +2 EV's >.> -Face palm-

Yeah, but you can use those with Macho Brace anyway.

EV training is easy as hell, even without Pokerus. I don't know why people complain about it. It takes like 30 minutes and basic arithmetic skills. Say I want 6 HP/252 Attack/252 Speed.
1. Use 10 Protein (100 Attack)
2. Use 10 Carbos (100 Attack/100 Speed)
3. Turn Battle Animations/Switch off.
4. Equip Power Bracer
5. Fight Magikarp guy 6 times (244 Attack/136 Speed)
6. Old Rod for two more Magikarp (252 Attack/138 Speed)
7. Equip Power Anklet
8. Fight Magikarp guy 3 times (252 Attack/228 Speed)
9. Fight 4 Raticates/Fearows/anything that gives 2 Speed EVs (252 Attack/252 Speed)
10. Use an HP Up (6 HP/252 Attack/252 Speed)

That's 60 battles, 56 of which were against Magikarps. Would've taken ~30 with Pokerus.
