Wow $1,000,000, yet they cant hire decent programmers for Maple Story...

I dunno if I'd want to have anything to do with Nexon publishing my game, if I had one.

Really interesting. Up to $1,000,000.

Yeah, I have an idea for a game. But it's already released in Korea.

It's called "KartRider".

MOTHERF'UCKING USE THAT F'UCKING MONEY TO RENEW YOUR F'UCKING LICENSE FOR IT AND F'UCKING RELEASE IT AGAIN, NEXON.

i think they see the end of ms as much as everyone else, and realized none of their current ideas will be able to support them once ms has gone. ):

They would be kinda running your game, but not really. You'll see that they're asking for the submitter's references/resume. They wouldn't ask someone this unless they were intent on hiring you ("Launch It"). Although it's not explicitly stated, it sounds like they would want to make you the project manager of your own game.

Also, I can't see how people are taking "Maplestory is dying!" out of this.

1. Nexon wants to create a new game.
Therefore: Maplestory is dying.

Just because a company wants to expand does not mean that their old products suck or are dying. It just means they want to expand.

Also, don't read into this too much - you get $1,000,000 in support of your game development. Nowhere does it say that you just flat out get $1,000,000 for an idea. You have to follow through with your swing and do the project. You'd likely collect royalties from them as long as they run your idea and that's how you make your money. They're also investing in you as a person just as much as they're investing in your idea, so a sound game development and project management resume would be likely.

Another thing to notice is that they did not guarantee a winner. They could go through this entire process and get no new games with it. Also, they did not guarantee just one winner. They could find five new projects. It's really up to them.

I'm just waiting for a million kids to submit RPG Maker projects.

That business model requirement will really weed kids out.

I wouldn't expect much from this, though.

I wouldn't want my game associated with Nexon either.

Perhaps a better way to phrase it is "at most". Goggleemoticon

Lolol....

Next you'll see them asking for what kind of items will maximize CS profits. That's actually not too far-fetched...

Point still stands. Most people can't make a business model, let alone some kids and their older brother/drunk dad.

Remember this baddie right here? A refresher: Doritos has this similar contest going on, except it's a challenge for game developers to come up with a neat-o game for Xbox Live Arcade incorporating the Doritos brand. I don't believe the prize was as big as the one Nexon was offering here, though. If you're watching the video here, you might think it sounds vaguely familiar. It is. It's Touhou. The creator pretty much just took whatever features he liked best from his favorite "SHMUPS" and then shoved them into this thing. He made it to the top 8 with that. Then- on the video I couldn't find: he presented the concept poorly, and was pretty much afraid to correct them on their misconceptions. "It's kind of a traditional Japanese RPG scrolling fighter", goddamn. My favorite part was when he described the way the bullets appeared on the screen: 'Big mess of crap'; and then when the judges laughed at his poor description, he apologized and said "Sorry, I'm from Texas". The judges had no clue what they were talking about when they started tossing around terms to use for this game like "traditional Japanese RPG" and one of them was totally clueless on what a "schmup" was.

I hope Nexon knows what they're going to be doing unlike the judges behind that; and I hope we don't see another pile of crap like "Skies Ablaze" get supported by Nexon. I'd like to see something good and truly original.

I’ll be interested to see what the winning entry is at the end of this. I hope it isn’t the same people that pick the winning fan art from MapleStory that are in charge though…
