This thread has given me good lulz. It's sad how badly Nexon screwed up here.

Hi everyone missed me?
Regarding this gm hack, the gm was dumb for not seeing his info in the scrolling notice bar. This scenario is the same as fiel "please hack my account"
Now on to this pic speculation
For all that thinks the pic was cracked it wasn’t. The pic exploit was fixed a few days ago. The person who got on didn’t bypass the pic cause even if you get in the game without entering the pic it will still pop up. Do you really think gm accounts are made the same way like regular accounts? For all we know gm only need username and password to login.
Ever thought this if the gm had to have his info pasted in the clipboard wouldn’t his pic be right after it? What about his pin it should have been pasted right after too? Seeing that this gm clearly can remember his info. The pic should have been right after the login/pw
In the past few pages all i see is "PIC was cracked etc" here is the thing where is your source? I don’t see a ss of the hacker at the gm character selection screen. Here is the funny thing a lot of people have a different version of the pic that was supposedly on the account. "It was 123456" "NO it was eckorulez" "It was abcdefg" Saw someone said that it wasn’t even ecko who did it. Someone was able to login on the gm account it probably needed a pin and that’s easy to crack.
If pic was really this easy to crack don’t you think the mass hacking epidemic would still be going on?
I got a bag of doritos ready to start who shall be first?
Going wih your theory, if GM accounts actually have no PIC, that's just piss-poor planning; if regular accounts need a PIN/PIC to log in, why not GM accounts too? It's true GMs aren't ones to just hand out their username/password, but as we clearly have seen that can happen and they should have considered that a possibility, and thus make a contingency plan by making GM accounts more secure than regular accounts.
Spideyjvc Wrote:It took a few hours before someone got in. If it didn't need a PIC, it would have been jacked far sooner.
On the other hand, the person could have jacked the account ASAP, but he just didn't feel like screwing around with people yet. Maybe those few hours were spent trying to figure out the GM commands.

The GM in question accidentally posted his account information while using a text shortcut program meant to issue commands within MapleStory. This was a serious breach of protocol, and the GM will be disciplined. In addition, we're investigating the actions of a player who abused this error, which is a serious breach of our Terms of Use.
We hope this information can shed some light for our players. Due to the sensitive nature of the problem, we will have no more information to provide on this topic, and we ask players to please avoid discussing the matter on our forums.

The Nexon Team
This will all go away with another 2x weekend event for Scania. If Nexon admitted the PIC can be broken, they'd just scare everybody. So they probably won't even mention it.

It takes a pin a few hrs to crack too. The pin system is still alive and gm accounts probably still on that system. Bad planning on nexon part, they thought a gm will never get hacked so why bother? Gm have a differ client from us so their client maybe on the pin system.

It should be common sense to keep your secruity on par with your members but that wasnt used at nexon i guess. When i use to run a website to login in to the admin panel just needed a username and pw while the other accounts needed more info to login. Why i planned it like that cause i knew for a fact no one would be able to find the admin login page and if someone magically was able to find the page they dont know my admin info.
Really thou guys how many times have you seen a gm info out in the open? When the mass hacking was happen a gm account would have been hit wouldn't it?

Nexon is backed into a corner. When even Sleepywood acknowledges they fucked up, it means they REALLY fucked up. They are either to admit they screwed up, or more people will leave because of their incompetence.

I accept this as a valid theory.

I believed that they used a desperate client as well, but after this incident I'm not too sure anymore. The game should allow GM accounts to only be logged on from if the player is using a specific client version (.83GM or something).

GMs obviously don't use a different client if a hacker can get into the GM account with a normal client.

If GM accounts doesn't require a PIC or a PIN, that must mean that they're more vulnerable than ours then? Oh dear lordy...

No matter what they do at this point, what was left of their reputation has officially been shattered. Even the skeptics must even realize by now that defending Nexon would classify as a form of dementia worthy of being listed in the DSM-IV.
Anyone who still hasn't given up on Nexon, I applaud your loyalty. But if a company that flat out denied that they couldn't keep many players' accounts safe showed that they couldn't even keep their own account secured, then you have to question your loyalty at some point.

I think assuming GM login is any different than user login is pretty ridiculous without proof.

I really have lost all hope in MapleStory, though.

Pfft Street, that's a perfect loyalist name. A device that people walk all over.
And who doesn't like toast?
Besides, street's post on here seems pretty rational so far, unlike Mr. Milquetoast on the Nexon forum.

street Wrote:WoT about PICs. Jon, as well as a few other Scanian friends I have (IRL) that were on during the incident have already confirmed that a PIN was needed to login to the account. Whether or not a PIC was needed as well is unconfirmed, however.
For the GM client: There must be some sort of prevention on the whole thing, or else I'm guessing that the person who hacked the GM would've banned people instead of simply making them DC (supposedly done using a spam hack, but I'm still skeptic on that.)
Edit: Oh, and those people who managed to see the PIN all got IP banned as well. -Chuckles.
For the GM thing: Or RavenSCA could just be a low-tier GM.

There we have it folks a pin was needed to login in the account. The same with fiel account needing a pin to get on. Then he had to set a pic to the account. The client saw the person who login as a mapler who didn't set a pic yet. Cause if a pic was indeed on the account the pin system shouldn't have come up a pic should have.
Also it looks like nexon does work on the weekends

Obviously they do, ravenSCA was on to announce the events and apparently he's a suitably low level lackey that he was unsupervised.

I'm late in posting this, but yes, the account required a PIN. This makes me think that the PIC of the account wasn't actually set yet. Anyway, I was IP banned sometime yesterday (I was out of the house most of the day so I didn't know I was ipbanned until around 10pm est). Soo... Good going Nexon. :|

While I know I told you to, it's still kind of your fault for logging on, haha.
