Nexon isn't at fault here, there was never any proof of a security breach, anyway. People just love to complain about the smallest things.

This brings up an interesting point. Some people have been saying that the "alleged" stolen items from the "alleged" hacked accounts have been liquidated into mesos to sell to players. If this is true, does anyone see a problem with this scenario?

Actually...if you have access to the email for your accnt, there's a verfication email sent that simply states "Your account ID password has been changed, if this isn't correct please click the link below to reset your password"

Which we all know is not going to solve a hacker already accessing your account, cleaning it out and/or deleting it before you even see the verification email from Nexon. Hell I've tried 4 times tonight to get one of my accounts reactivated and STILL haven't gotten an email from Nexon. Yet my MS hubby got every single one he requested, managed to reactivate is main only to turn around and have it deactivated again because they IP banned him for changing passwords on his accounts... >.>

Actually, I didn't get a verification email. I changed my password yesteday, and found it strange I didn't get an email. Not to mention I had to change it again today because of this password change bullcrap. No verification email both times, and it wasn't recorded in Spam either.

When you logon to the nexon website it forces you to http://passport.nexon.net/User/ChangePassword.aspx where you have to change your password. This website is not a secure site (SSL) which means that anyone can sniff your password as it's sent over the network in clear text! Nexon are too cheap to pay for an SSL certificate?!?

Do I understand correctly that you don't need acces to your email if you update your password every 3 months? If not my maple time is over since I live in Europe, this is my only account that I got from a friend who got it from his friend which I don't longer know . I've full info except the password to the email. Will nexon think this is a valid reason to let them change my email? I've played this game for 1.5 years and the creator of the account had a lvl 18 bowman as his highest character...

The email they sent isn't even a verification email. It's more of a "hey ur password was changed, kthx" message. If a hacker knew your old password, they could easily change it and gain access to your account. I don't even have access to my Bishop's email anymore, yet I managed to set its password and log in without any problems.

I understand that Nexon wants better security, but this whole thing is extremely dangerous. They should not force users to change their password especially since they don't send a verification email. If they do require verification, it screws over people who have lost access to their email.

Plus the change password page isnt secure...I wouldnt be surprised to see every account compromised now...

I dont see what nexon is doing right now negative in anyway. Putting pic was negative? Doing this password update is negative? Heck when they have server checks that must be negative to right? Your going off all the past things i'm going off the present stop staying in one spot and learn to move on! If you get dumped you going to mope around forever? Or get over it?

Nexon is taking actions now and siding with what they are doing now is not negative in no way.

Some of these things are good, some of them not so much. A mandatory password change is useful in certain cases; but I'm fairly sure the biggest reasons for people being hacked are inputting their information on non-nexon sites, and viruses. A password change every three months will not solve that; but it is a good step for security.

PIC, in my opinion, could have been implemented much better; I dislike it immensely. A Cellphone letter-pad is counterproductive, if you click in the same place three times, keylogger (reason for the random positions) can still tell you clicked in that spot three times. They can still tell which tab you're typing in as well, as that never changes position. So while it is more secure than a PIN, it could have been incredibly more effective. However in the end, it was also a good step.

Something that was a horrible step, and horribly implemented, was needing to start the game from the website. As I stated somewhere above, a big reason for accounts being hacked is inputting their information on sites they shouldn't be. Nexon, in their brilliance, did two things by forcing players to log in from their website:

1. People will download "Browserless Login Programs" in an attempt to bypass, and if the programmer put in lines to steal their information; good game.
   
2. People with no brain already input their information on false sites, this just gives false sites another open door.
   

It was poorly implemented because you can still open Maplestory.exe; and get so far as the login screen. Why? Why just not replace it's functionality with a little error message, a text box, anything? What's even more agitating is after we view the "Buy NX" Maplestory homepage, and choose to start the game, we still get the "Buy NX" splash screen.

Nexon is not all bad, all the time, but they really don't do a good job at satisfying their community's wants and curiosity, and actually attacking problems at hand ("Bugs every patch, but no revival of Tespia?" is one of my favorites). That's where all the random hate comes from.

As for the trust, Hime is a more or less trustworthy source I guess you could say. But nexon never seems to ever really say the truth. They dance around the subject, or announce a fix as a change, pretending like the problem never existed. For mass hackings that may work fine, but the Ticket System Change is a nice counter-example.
