As part of our ongoing efforts to improve player security, players who have not updated their password recently will be asked to change their password when logging into any Nexon.net website, including the websites for Combat Arms, Dungeon Fighter Online, iTCG Online, Mabinogi, MapleStory, and PopTag!. This is one part of our effort to promote security for all Internet users. Going forward we will introduce additional security features as a part of this continuing program.


Thank you for your continued support, and we encourage players to update passwords at least once every three months to combat against keylogging and phishing exploits.

1. I'm getting an error and the game is not allowing me to log in. What do I do?


If you see any of the following errors, the most likely explanation is that you are not logged in to the Website. Please exit the game, log in to the Website and follow the instructions to change your password.







2. Why do we have to change our password?


As part of our ongoing web initiatives, we are implementing new web upgrades for account safety. This Password Update will enable players to change their password on a regular basis.



3. Why should we change our password every 3-months?



Updating your password frequently increases account safety by keeping your password unpredictable. Hackers use a variety of techniques to hack into accounts. Three of the most common are “keylogging,” “phishing“ and “social engineering.”



Keyloggers are hidden programs downloaded onto your computer. Phishing is a technique in which a hacker sends an official looking e-mail or sets up an official looking site that encourages the player to log in in order to steal their account information. Social engineering means that hackers try many of the most common words and phrases people use as passwords. Changing your password on a regular basis keeps it from becoming predictable and helps increase safety.



4. Is this process mandatory?


Yes. Nexon takes your account safety extremely seriously and this is part of a constant effort to keep your information safe.



5. How does it work?


Once this protocol goes into effect, the following things will happen:


- The next time you log into a Nexon game, you will be asked to change your password. The new password cannot be the same as/contain your current password.


- Three months after you change your password, you will be asked to change your password again when you log into a Nexon game. This new password cannot be the same as/contain the password you were using for the last three months.


- All players will be reminded to change their password every three calendar months



6. What happens if I forget the new password I set?



You can have your Login ID sent to your registered email address by following these steps on our official website:


- Go to the Find Nexon Password page.

- After you enter the required information, your password will be sent to your registered email address.


7. I don’t have access to my registered email and/or I don’t remember it.



If you no longer have access to your registered email address due to a lost or forgotten password, or have closed the email account, please try to regain access to that email. Many email providers have ways to recover email accounts.



If you no longer have access to the registered email address because you have changed email providers by changing your ISP, you will need to submit a ticket to Nexon Support requesting an email change. Be sure to specify that this is the reason for the email change.

Is no one ever satisfied with anything? If you know the reason nexon is doing this cause of the hacking epdmic let it be. No one knows up to this point if it was a database hack.

How about the fact that it's been 3 months and they still haven't warned anyone or said anything about it, instead they're running around pretending to be proactive and attempting to get credit that they don't deserve?

I don't have any buddies on my buddy list nor do I have any RL friends who play maplestory. Oh but it must of been one of them who hacked me then amirite?

Hime did say something regarding the hacking issue. They didn't find anything wrong on their part and that's their word. She even said if it was a database hack they would be doing far worst than hacking accounts. Who are you to say they are bsing? Do you have proof that it was indeed a database hack? Were you involve with the whole hacking that you know for sure it was a database hack.

K so a notice saying "Mass hacking alert you might be hacked" that would have been better to tell the community. Sending everyone in to panic mode. Then what will nexon do after that? Work on the problem with the community in a frenzy? If that had happen people would still complain "this is taking to long, what are they doing" if nexon give a message that they are working as hard as they can on the problem people will still give them pomegranate and say they are not working on it. Either way people wouldnt give nexon any type of credit.

Your seriously acting as if nexon would have been able to update everything in a flash. Maple is such an easy game to manage all you have to do is press ctrl+x and everything will go away.

Your failing to see what i'm trying to say if everyone wants to believe it was a database hack let it be. Even thou nexon said it wasn't a database hack on their end. Moldybunny posted how the hacking might have been happening but he was shot down for it being false.

Also a question for you all regarding nexon secruity, if you all been keeping up with fiel "please hack me" how did his pic get reset? Was it cause of a database hack? Was it cause they are able to become a webadmin on the nexon site and do what they please freely with accounts?

I find that having awareness on a situation beats leaving me in the dark on what's really happening.

I believe Nexon's login services are undergoing maintenance at the moment, so it somehow affected their web servers as well.

Admitting that there was a DB leak isn't something they can do easily, nor would it benefit anyone, besides maybe us forum users who have had fun speculating what the real cause could have been here.
Nexon is actually doing the right thing here. I mean, let's face it: While the DB leak has been terrible because it affected even those of us who were responsible about their account security, the vast majority of accounts compromised are still compromised via primitive attack vectors like social engineering, phishing, and keylogging. You can address the bulk of the problem by encouraging (and now, enforcing) good account security practices among the player base that is generally very clueless about account security.

I just hope that they have also fixed the holes on their end, rather than hoping that doing this will be the solution to the mass hacking that happened recently.

Already addessed all of this dozens of times but let me summarize:

Hime posting on the forums is not an official notice no matter what you think. Yes an official notice that sends everyone into a frenzy would've been much better than the way they handled it, because at least then people would be aware. They should've suggested password changes back in early January; better yet, they should have shut the game down for the duration of the issue. They acted in a completely selfish manner and didn't think about their customers safety whatsoever. Everyone here agreed that they could live without maple if it meant keeping their accounts and personal information safe (shutting the game down), and beyond a few whiners, I imagine it would've been pretty resolute understanding of this action, even if it had taken months. Nexon didn't deserve to make any money during this incident, yet they continued pushing sales on players. Disgusting.

You complain about people complaining but at least we have a justifiable reasons to complain. All you do is agree with whatever Nexon does and it never makes much sense. You need to realise when it's right to stop saying OKAY! and start saying no, because all you ever do is reinforce negative actions, regardless of whether they're right or wrong.

I still can't believe that after all this time, people can still defend Nexon. If there was a database hack they would have admitted it? Since when have you known Nexon to not cover their own asses first?

They did not say anything about a mass hacking epidemic ANYTHING. A group of people who got hacked could easily interpret that as a giant, "F YOU THERE ARE NO HACKERS YOU ARE ALL LYING"

Using that logic what is the point of changing our pw every 3 months? I already knew how easy it was to break through a PW before I was even hacked. If they are SOLEY relying on their PIC system as they were their PIN system, then nothing is changed. By stating that it is not a problem on their side or that they are not at fault completely puts all the fault to the user. I know many who have been hacked were at fault, but not all cases are like that. Let's say Fiel changes his PW, and repeats his process, would it make a difference? Most likely not.

my reasoning is better than yours. Your reasoning is "they're doing their best guuuuuyyysssss!!" when they should have been doing their best months ago; they should have addressed this and they should have taken action. Numerous people suffered because Nexon did nothing, even with hundreds of complaints being filed. I don't rag on Nexon 24/7, check the Neo City thread in general, I completely defended putting that area in while everyone else bitched. I am able to see what's good and what's bad, and most of the time it's bad.

And yes, I still believe 2x after an error is a scam, because it is. I don't complain about the 2x events during the anniversary, or the 2x scheduled throughout the month with a patch. Only when they use it to make up for something going wrong because they know full-well that they're going to make an assload off of it, and that's wrong. You shouldn't profit from your mistakes.

You just said yourself, you don't get it. Adding these preventative measures isn't bad; it's wonderful. No one here is complaining about this measure (unless they don't have access to their email address). They're complaining about the way they're going dealing with these issues. They aren't being honest with their customers, they aren't even addressing the problem, they're just trying to cover it up like sleazebags.

You can only move on once there is resolution, otherwise mistakes are bound to be repeated. Nexon will continue being a sleazy company if people don't stand up this time, just like they have in the past. Just like you allow them to do every time you go "GUYYYS THEY'RE JUST HUMAN!!" They are currently no better than the bank executives in america, and they need to be outed before they will change.
