Do you feel frustrated when you play video games?
#1
Especially against your own friends (or rivals, even). Sometimes when I'm playing Melee, and I am trained by my bestfriend (who mains Falcon). We sometimes do a team-match, and we'd do double-dragon Jigglypuff (LAWL, two Jiggs on the same team).

I get extremely annoyed and frustrated if I lose by a stupid mistake, ie:

1) Missing an uptilt to Rest.
2) Falling off the ledge because I tapped Jump+R and accidentally fell and died. <_<
3) My teammate's the one doing most of the work

This can be applied to shooters as well. For instance, if you're playing on a team in.. let's say, LOLhalo, and you're constantly dying while your bestfriend is doing most of the work. Don't you feel pissed-off?

Personally, I play the same damn game over and over almost daily, just to practice and get better as LOLprediction and spacing. Same goes for MapleStory. If I don't do something right, I figure out what I did wrong, and I have to know what I did wrong. Or else I get extremely frustrated. Maybe video games really is srsbsns to me .-.

I only ever get annoyed or frustrated when I'm alone. When I'm alone, I go batshit crazy when things don't go my way, which is why I quit console games. Lmao. If I'm with my friends or a group of people and we're playing console games, I always laugh if I mess up.

Oh yeah, dude. Except I'm the opposite. I'm not a bad sport, really. I don't make excuses when I die. But I get frustrated at myself for it. Does my friends or teammate care if I die? Not really. But do I? Yes. But I guess that's why I improve a lot faster than most people, because I take it a bit too seriously at times. Grah.

Console games are really irritating at times. I get annoyed if I fail something, so I'll play it over and over til I get better.

I get mad when I play certain games. Other games I'm like "Hahahaohwow.jpg" at. But yeah, say I'm playing some RE5 and I'm at the part where you find those crawlers that shoot their tentacles into you. When they break through the class and theres 50 of them and you forgot to stock up on explosive type weapons.

I get pissed.

I only get frustrated when I have to spend a large amount of time doing something... like dodging 200 lightnings in FFX or having to deal with crappy sales in the Free Market.

I certainly wouldn't get angry over something like Smash though.. maybe at a tournament setting sure but if it's just something with friends.... In your case for Halo, I wouldn't feel frustration, maybe embarrassment o_o

I take Smash to a whole new level, so.. lol. I play it for fun and competitively. Against non-comp people, it's like "LOL I LOST TO THEM? WAT" and I proceed to laugh, then on the inside, raging at myself a bit. As for Halo, well, I do feel embarrassment if I die a lot. ;~; More so than anger, so you're right on that.

Even though I'm playing competitive smash now, I don't feel frustrated as I'm still new and I'm still learning about high level play. If I lose, oh well, better experience for me.

Though it did get a bit frustrating losing to a samus at 100+% last stock when I'm at two stocks.

Aside from that, the only game I've been so frustrated with is touhou haha. Oh, I can't count how many times I've raged quit. How's about losing your last life on the final spellcard of the last level as the boss is dying and it was gonna be a 1cc if you lived.

If I join a Team Fortress 2 game with all of my friends and I'm going super garbage-tier while their bossing it up all over the scoreboard I get really mad. Some days I derp it up and other days I do pretty well.

Or if I'm playing Trouble in Terrorist Town [a Garry's Mod game mode] and my friends deduce that I am the traitor and sodomize me with shotguns. Or in L4D[2], and I'm constantly getting jumped by some other pineappleing special infected being detrimental to team. Or if I mess up a co-ordinated attack in Team VS.
Or messing up a tactical plan in the Bad Company 2. We don't have to be all tacticool about it, but it is more fun that way.
Or if I totally neglect my welding duty in Killing Floor and we all get swarmed and lose. It happens.
If I'm not being credit to team in a team game I get peeved. My score doesn't have to be the highest but I should be credit to team.

The thing that makes me rage most is when some douchebag on the other teem sucks total balls and gets multiple BS kills on me. Then they start getting all high and mighty, and taunting. Then I get into that whole serious rage zone that no one wants to hear. Thats usually enough to get me B&. Its an embarrassment, but I shurg it off and laugh at it. It used to be especially bad when I had to steal internet [thanks, aircrack-ng] and use a bridged connection from my laptop to play. Lag spikes would make me rage SO hard.

Really? You're new, oh damn. I thought you're way ahead of me in terms of experience. Yeah, bro. I've been practicing my WD's and Uptilts2Rest a shitload. I can do it to almost any character except for:

1) Peach
2) Marth
3) LOLPEACH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I hate Turnip Whores so bad. MAKES ME RAGE. Jigs vs Peach makes me rage like a damn monkey, I swear. Always takes 7-15 mins per 4 stock match. ;~;

In terms of actually playing against humans, yeah I'm new.

By just simply knowing about the competitive community and the advanced techniques, I'm an '05 competitive player.

For competitive games, I think I only get angry when I do badly for several matches in a row, or when I feel as though I'm playing much worse than I know I have in the past. In those cases, I get mad at myself, not the person I'm playing with.

For co-op games, I only feel bad when I hold the other person up not because of inability, but because of blatant stupidity. I don't claim to have good common sense when it comes to shooters, and jumping off of things is fun.

I think I started my competitive Melee in... I can't remember if it was '04 or '05, but I had humans to play against the whole time. Even though we played a bunch for a while, about a year after FC6 we pretty much stopped playing altogether. Now we just play every then and again, and I'm pretty sure I never put as much time into practicing as either of you guys.

If I'm playing a single player console game and if something is really difficult I'll definitely start getting aggravated and saying things like "jesus, why would they make this so hard? What is the point if you can't even get passed it."

Only other time I get frustrated/annoyed are if someone is KSing me in Maple (something I have very little experience with).

I do this but only when it is a game I am suppose to be good at. Otherwise I just fuck around.

By myself, I only get mad if something ridiculously retarded happens or I lose a lot of progress.

Also this. There's no reason to get mad if you know you're bad at a game, so yeah, I agree.

Maplestory pisses me off to no end, if only because I pretty much hate everyone who plays it and it genuinely gets in the way of RL more often than I'd like to admit.

I don't ever remember getting so annoyed at console games, in which I would happily clock up several hours trying to do particularly hard parts or farming stuff (if required) without much complaint, which is usually where I'd get my ridiculous "hundreds of hours of playtime" figure on game saves that made my parents a little annoyed when they saw them (they checked up on what I did on a regular basis before I left home for uni).

Don't play video games competitively, so I dunno about that. Usually sucked when it came to co-op though, my friend was some sort of "halo sensei" while I was more "what does this button do", he did most of the work in legendary co-op. A little inadequacy set in maybe, but nothing to rage about. Many lols were passed around (which I joined in on) when I died for the 5th time in the same spot.

I don't normally get frustrated because I'm too much of a glutton for punishment when I play games. I do crazy stuff like trying to do a 1% run on Metroid Fusion and no upgrade runs on Megaman X-X3.

For competitive games, I don't deem myself good enough to be allowed to get frusterated yet, except if something stupid happens (like someone disconnected against me on Blazblue on purpose simply because I chose Nu-13, who they deemed "cheap" when they were using Jin, who has an even matchup against Nu-13). I just normally taunt people who do that afterwards with some lovely messages though. When playing seriously against serious people though, I simply expect to get my ass handed to me.

This. Any multi-year dedicated video gamer can recall a number of times in which they were individually frustrated by some aspect of some game. I second the Blue Shells comment, for example, and raise to fishing in OoT for the gold scale or whatever it is. Fucking big ass fish was a painful hour of work for me.

Oh, and in MapleStory: Zakum JQ. One of the easiest bosses in the game and yet has, in my opinion, one of the most painful pre-reqs. Horntail's transformation quest is way easier. I don't care if you're a godly pro at JQs, because I consider myself pretty good and even then you can have bad experiences with them.

I was just playing New Super Mario Bros. Wii with my brother. UGH. Jumping on my head and making me die, taking both fire flowers, and all of the likes result in me throwing my remote at him.

For me it's always about controlling my character. In Maple, I expect to hit the jump-BS every time, so when I screw it up, I get annoyed. Of course, when I'm annoyed, it's harder to do, so I get more annoyed Mad. Same kind of thing in Smash - if I get mad/excited, say goodbye to short-hopping and hello to button mashing.

But getting screwed over by a boss or trap in single-player games doesn't really bother me much, luckily.
