Any recent hacked accounts from Southperry users?
Derimed Wrote:How do you reset a PIN? I have a secondary account with all its info, but I forgot the PIN and now I need to reset it. Thanks for your help!

Just throwing this guess out there randomly but...

The password is unchanged as far as I can tell. The PIC is simply an enchanced PIN (longer and with letters).
But from how I read it this is just step 1 in their overall login procedure change.

Yeah I think the patch on the 21-22nd will be the one that introduces the log in from the website.

SO whats stopping hackers from bypassing the PIC as they do the PIN?

I do hope it's stored differently at least.

Eosian Wrote:I feel sorry for anyone who the hackers get into before they do - Having a PIC set by someone else is going to suck.

I thought of that too. That is why I actually logged in and set a PIC to my account. Random BS...had to write it down lmao.

Even if hackers do get in before the real owners, the only downside to it would be the ability to delete characters. The PIC just serves as the new PIN, and works the same way. If you have the email account associated to the nexon account, you can always just reset the PIC. It's not like it's set in stone, you know.

FYI: I made contact with one of the writers of the LA Times article, who basically reiterated the same thing that was posted on Sleepywood, that their PR department essentially is calling the posters on the LA Times story a "vocal minority," complaining about minor "blips" in the roads, like extended down time and minor glitches.

Everyone that has been breached should feel slapped in the face about this response. Although I doubt the writers will be able to look into this too much without any hardcore proof (they're business writers, so technology might not be their specialty.)

Yeah, losing 300k NX is not a "minor glitch". I believe the lower limit for grand theft is $500, which is very easily less than the amount these hackers have stolen. Nexon should be pursuing them with criminal charges...

Man Nexon is full of scumbags. The only reason it's a "minority" in any way is because most of the people being attacked are children and aren't able to/are afraid to take action. I hate that it's beginning to feel hopeless because they're a bunch of corporate sleazebags and most of the people they're allowing to be cyber-raped are children who can't/won't do anything about it.

It's great to see that their trends of being dismissive aren't only used when confronting customers but also when referring to them.

I am really mad right now.

You're not the only one angry. Nexon just wants this problem (and us) to go away. Are we going to let them win?

You can use my personal case where 1.6M NX is stolen because of account vulnerability, alongside with 10b worth of mesos and items, hard to put on a value on that but NX should convert to $1,600 US by saying that NX is generated when Nexon cards are redeemed on the website, which is purchasable with real life currency. The keyword here is generated, or the creation of NX. I don't care if they want to argue that I obtained the NX from MTS, the NX itself still has to come from somewhere and it's at the source of NX cards. I don't care about glitches and service disruptions and I think for those that are commenting there on the article should not either. What we want to drive is the hacking issue, this sort of insinuates Nexon's bad practice and why even they're 'successful' in raking in the riches. It might be hard to put things for common people to understand, so I think focusing on the money lost, spent, over the course of your maple life will be a good baseline. If you invested like $3,000, say so! If you lost NX, include that ALONG with how much spent. If you spent like $4,000 but lost $2,000, include both but separately. Call me a cheater but it'll look like you've invested $6,000 in plain-sight, it just makes the figure more prominent. We can talk about validity later, after we've caught the writer's attention. It's like presenting a resume, worry about the interview later.

Oh and them calling us 'vocal minority', I dare them to put up an official poll on Nexon website asking what the players feel about the hacking, or even at the number of people proclaiming that they did. Remember they used to have that on the home page? (How you feel about this patch, what do you like most, do most on maple, and that, blah blah) Yeah, not anymore. How the hell are people supposed to be vocal when their own forum is spammed by idiots and mods that just say, "You got hacked? It's your fault, make sure no spyware or virus on your computer and submit a ticket" Of course I know that Einstein. Maybe the rep can give us an answer as to WHY the vocal minority existed in the first place. Yeah, we really love wasting time and talk trash about Nexon, we really do.

No, I'm sending more angry letters right now. I'm also debating making some very angry phone calls tomorrow, including one to a lawyer to see what our rights are.

Being angry wouldn't help you, in fact, they'll just use it against you. If you're calm and collected you stand a better chance, and presenting your facts in an organized fashion will show that you indeed know what you're talking about, instead of being driven by emotion and anger.

Keep in mind, Nexon employees do monitor forums like this and Sleepywood (most likely to see if there are any product theft issues.) They are also using our comments as a way to form a strategy on how to handle this situation, including having answers for potential questions that consumers, journalists, and lawyers could potentially ask them. I won't be surprised to see the LA Times writers quoting various "examples" that the PR representatives are feeding them, and start leaning towards those examples as a result.

It's a shame that there isn't undoubted proof that we can turn into both Nexon and the writers that would basically dismiss any of the "vocal minority" claims of making up or over-exaggerating common issues in the game, and expose this situation for the real issue: we simply want Nexon to just admit that there is a problem in the first place.

I didn't mean they'd be unreadable and filled with rage. I mean I am sending them out of the hellfire rage pits of my stomach, not writing them that way. Don't worry, I'm not silly enough to allow my points to be dismissed in such an important matter just because I was angry.

Seconded. If Nexon has the IPs of these hackers, they should press charges. These guys will be real bold getting raped by Bubba in a prison cell.

I'm aware that Nexon staff monitors big fansites like SW and SP. It sort of works both ways, if they can just correct their wrongs, then us players don't have to pressure attention from outside source to push Nexon into a bind. As a setback, they can also use what they know about us to fend off any prosecution they face. But time and time again, the rep at Nexon 'believes' nothing is wrong at their side. It's funny how they fix things without putting it in notices, or offer an apology anywhere in game, or website, of the official forum. It's like they're trying to withhold any evidence that has to do with their lack of oversight and inspecting in regards to game glitches and account vulnerabilities. They do not disclose anything at all, and sometimes players don't even know if it's intended or if it's a bug altogether. But coming back to the main point, I think we should push on the fact that compromised accounts and security is not being looked into with urgency, and players are suffering from the company's negligence.

Ugh typical glib response from Nexon. If they feel bummed about a little bad press how do they think the thousands of hacked people who have lost their accounts feel...Nexon makes me sick.

I can imagine Sarah taking Nexon to court over this. I hope she does.

The people at Nexon are the type of people that think "If there is a problem, ignore it, and it will go away."

Surfing through the Nexon forum to see whether the LA Times article made its appearance brought up this interesting post...

Leaving for greener pastures.

I wonder what forum that poster is going to migrate to, as a result of the moderation at the Nexon forum. He might find it more surprising that some of the other fan forums are just as draconian with their censorship policies, if not worse.
