Any recent hacked accounts from Southperry users?
CarrionCrow Wrote:Well EMS was not around when Global was launched, and it was Global. What difference does it make that they launched the EU version when tens of thousands already was accepted into the originally Global server? Anything that shows Nexon taking somewhat shady or mean actions would be usable in this situation. Don't be hasty turning down stuff, after all you do not decide what's bad practise and what's not. Looking at your posts I almost get the impression you think that you are somewhat of a leading star in this "crusade" against Nexon and their bad form. Like Legion, we are many.

Well let me address your latter comment, first. I do not feel like I am any sort of "star", that's ridiculous. I have been recieving just as much guidance from someone else as I've been trying to provide to people. I am just a lot more outspoken than others, and very passionate about seeing the right thing being done, which obviously highlights me.

Now, as for the treatment of european players, it's like this. Nexon is in no way obligated to extend extra services to you since the opening of the European version of MapleStory. It's unfair, yes, but it's the truth. They allowed people with accounts prior to the European launch to stay, generously. I love making bad analogies for people to pick apart so I'll explain it like this; if a new school opens down the road from you, and your kids have been going to a school across town, the district is not obligated to continue bussing your kids to the school further away. They will allow your kids to stay enrolled, but it's up to you to get them there and back. There are no perks. It's truly unfortunate that European players feel isolated or ignored but you have the choice, and by making the choice to stay with GMS, which is meant for regions without a service, you give up a lot of rights.

On the flipside, I believe Australians/New Zealanders could make the same argument and make Nexon look bad.

edit: yaaargh Eos is so fast.

I'm not worried about being keylogged as of now. If I have to spend 5x the time to safeguard myself against keyloggers, then I rather be keylogged and cry about it later. What's worse is 'we' know this is not even the case in this situation, so all the extra precaution for nothing. Hopefully the new PIC will prevent further hacking, but I'm afraid that root has not even been picked out yet, which is the loophole is still there and it's just a matter of time it'll be exploited once again. I'm worried that since having your account password will enable characters to be seen on the website, and birthday and last name are quite common. Or if your email is known in the database as well, which it is, hackers might target directly based on the characters they see tied to the account. Further security locks need to be implemented.

I'm also curious as to how the new PIC works. Will this be crackable like they did with the PIN, can it be bypassed, is it encrypted/hashed, or basically, how much safety does it offer?

Darkning Wrote:Even Ubuntu can get viruses. Long story short if it has a cache then it can be infected. LiveCDs do not permit anything to be installed to the system and therefore cannot be compromised.

Regarding the security of the addons in Firefox... I suppose thats true, however if you're really worried about a keylogger or other potential security threat residing in the actual site(and only site you would be loading the LiveCD for) then nobody is safe.

Yes, even Linux based operating systems can get viruses, but you'll have a hard time finding one. In terms of security, Linux based systems are better than Windows by far.

If you keep yourself safe, you shouldn't have a problem. That's normal, you just get extra safety with Linux.

But is that really because Linux has better security, or because less linux-viruses are being written because it is used less?

Both.

Hmm, just logged in so that I could place that PIC thing on all my accounts, and one of them was actually drained. Granted it was an unfunded lvl 25 warrior and a lvl 17 soul warrior that had about 150k total in misc NPC equipment between them; all the same they left nothing on it. It may have happened earlier though since I hadn't been on that account since Aran came out.

At least none of my others were touched. Even if I won't be playing anymore, I'd like to let my characters live on with my memories. Here's hoping that pain in the ass of a new loggin system actually does something.

EDIT: Ironically, there was a beginner on that account as well, still on maple island, but they didn't touch it.

Did anyone test the Spidey lock system with the new login method? I don't feel like getting a patch for a game I've given up on.

It's ok, there's no new lock system in terms of the regular password. The PIN just changed to a PIC, that's all, so you might still want to download the patch and put PICs on your accounts.

If the new login system doesn't accept special characters, then I have no reason to sign in for the forseeable future. I'll sign on to add the PIC once Nexon improves itself.

Just took a look at the LA times article recently. Nexon's really getting shi'tted on. Keep the comments coming. I've even considered writing a letter to the editors themselves about it.

Just to clarify: has there been any hacking stuff SINCE the new PIC came out? Or has this epidemic finally been stopped? Thanks for your help.

I feel sorry for anyone who the hackers get into before they do - Having a PIC set by someone else is going to suck.

MariaColette got hacked this morning apparently, but of course she hadn't set her PIC yet.

Did she have to reset her PIC just to get in?

No idea, she left a single post in the angry dome and hasn't responded since.

I hope the PIC deters hackers... I also hope that nexon identifies these hackers and sues them in a court of law. Some guy robbed Habbo Hotel accounts for 4000 euro, he got caught and prosecuted. This group has stolen WAY more than 4000 euro, so let's get them acquainted with Bubba in the surprise buttsecks suites.

How do you reset a PIN? I have a secondary account with all its info, but I forgot the PIN and now I need to reset it. Thanks for your help!
