Any recent hacked accounts from Southperry users?

Won't the login-via-the-website break this tactic? Since the only way it works right now is the website is the only place that allows special characters... and once all logins are done via the web... not locked out any more.
It's not having what you want - It's wanting what you've got.

No, it'd still work. You can change your password on the website, however you can't actually use it on the website. If you try, you don't even get an "incorrect password" message. It simply redirects you to the home page, like normal, but you're not signed in. If you try to sign in with your password directly on the Maplestory section, the box where it should show your character/show the login options is completely blank.

So, unless they completely patch their site in this update to allow such characters to be used (good, extra security), my method will still work. The only way my method gets completely screwed up would be if they completely removed the ability to use such characters in your password by giving you an error message or something. That would surely be a swift slap to everyone's face. At least patching it to allow such characters to be used would benefit you, even if it doesn't lock your account it can provide a stronger password than what's currently possible. Removing their use entirely removes another layer of safety, and benefits nobody but actual account hackers.

Someone has reported to me that the only place you can use these passwords are on Nexon's forums. I haven't tested that myself.

On the even brighter side the article notes that "Nexon will be doubling it's work force". Hopefully that applies to their damn security and development teams.

How sure are you that Nexon knows what "doubling" means? They can't even get the dates and times right on weekly maintenance notices.

I suspect there are more in queue to be reviewed, so anyone who hasn't submitted a comment but is itching to should go ahead and do so. The more who point out the issue, the better odds of it getting some attention and it's just possible the times will look at these comments as an interesting follow up story if it sounds scandalous enough.

0*2=0

So doubling won't do customer service any good. Rolleyes

Just added my comment as well. Yay for creating an account with false information =D

Doubling = Demit two thirds of the workforce then multiply it by two.

If this is true, then I'm going to have to end my indefinite boycott prematurely to change my password again...

Spidey doesn't think it will, but they're going to have write a new login sequence for this so there's a good chance it may.

Have any Nexon suck-ups commented on that article yet?

I'll test it in 7 hours. Let's hope not, because again, we all know it's going to be a while before Nexon even fixes this, let alone admits there was a problem. We players (the few of us that haven't been completely wiped) have no defenses agianst this new hack.

I would imagine they're trying to knock out as many accounts as possible before the patch. Sorry for your loss, though.

Report it to the FBI. Eos can provide you with details and a link, I don't have one onhand. Such a large loss would actually be beneficial for 'the cause', if you will.

Well I don't know if the FBI would service a 15 year old but I can't see why they wouldn't. The reason you need to contact them is because this constitutes a cyber crime and the NX you lost represents real money. Essentially you lost $200ish and it needs to be brought to the attention of the proper authorities so that 1. Nexon will "man up" and 2. so the offenders will be more likely to be brought to justice.
