Any recent hacked accounts from Southperry users?

I have one of those on my FFXI account. Sweet stuff, not to mention that its an 'all-encompassing' deal that'll cover my FFXIV account should I make one. A one time payment that costs [much] less than a fully equipped pet. Also replaced free of charge when the battery dies.

Lol, Blizzard actually has a dedicated customer service to help their players and game masters that don't just sign on every once in a blue moon to smega the servers with broken English and unleash a bunch of monsters to rob low level players of their experience. They get it.
Plus, keep in mind that the authenticator costs money, which I doubt Nexon would give to free to every yahoo that wants to play MapleStory. How much would Nexon charge players for this, if they even thought of doing this (which I can't see them doing ever)?
Nexon would have to fix a lot of their laundry list of problems, like having a decent customer service first and an actual police presence in the game before they could even think of using that authenticator.

You can ad me to the list of hacked accounts. As people know I NEVER share my info, or share my accounts with anyone, no one in the house I live in even knows what Maple is. The only way for my account to be compromised is a fault with Nexon.

My side project hunter account was hacked on the 23rd, admittedly it had a weak password which is why I logged onto it to see if it was compromised and if not I was going to change the PW. I think I made the account when Pirates came out, I'd have to check. I lost some scrolls, maple bow and some other stuff, cant recall what I had on it as I havet logged on for a while. They also drained my Nx i had been accumulating, it was only 2k, they bought an orbis scroll with it on the 23rd of Jan...I feel violated. My password and pin were not changed.

I have ZERO confidence about my other accounts, particularly my Marksman's now.

I was wondering what are some fun alternative mmo/rpg's that I could play besides maple.

I do love maple, but I am hating nexon more and more as this continues and would like to know
what some of the other fun games people are playing as an alternative to MS.

No sure if it needs to go to the expense of having one of those personal authenticator, as Nexon only has $ in their mind. They could use some potion of a public key encryption to tighten up the account security, which would cut down on people sharing of accounts and also makes any simply keylogger useless. It would works something like this:

1. On a new account creation and the initial first login, Nexon will create a unique pair of public/private key and store the private key associate it to the account in the database. It sends the public key to the client and then discard it.
2. Once client received the public key it will store it on the client computer and use it on every login to encrypt the password and/or the pins then it send the end result to the server for login.
3. When the server received the login packet it will then lookup the account and use the private key associated to decrypt the password and/or the pins, then do the password hashing and compare against the stored password hash.
4. If the actual user wants to login using a different computer he/she will need to request a key reset from Nexon web site and Nexon will send an email with a random key phase which they need to type/copy paste into another location on Nexon's web site to basically reset their key state back to like when it is first created before any logins.
5. To handle multiple account on one computer, would need to have multiple copy of MS (in different directory), in order to store the multiple public keys needed.

This assume everyone has a valid/known email registered with Nexon, or Nexon can allow everyone to "re-register" their email on their existing account.
This also will move the most likely point of hacker attack from Nexon to various public email services and might also spawn a new form of hybrid virus/keylogger to capture the stored public key and the account info, but those are easier to defense, as it is within the user's control compare to what is happening now.

I don't see why would anyone try to hack maplestory for money, there is not much you can make (if they try to sell things they take from other people they will cause a huge deflation, and will probably be caught in no-time).
There are websites with a much weaker security (lets not forget GMS and most of the other maples managed to stay safe for a long time, which is not easy for a game targeted by so many hackers) that can lend a potential hacker much more money or information that can be sold.

My personal assumption on this case is, it was either done "for the lulz", in order to get "geek pride" among the other hackers, as a proof of concept ("yes we can" style) or as a revenge against either Nexon or the MapleStory community as a whole.

EDIT: also, a bit offtopic, what the pineapple is the points thing and from where did I get 11 of them?

I disagree with you.

First, many items can be sold through MTS. Which is akin to laundering an item.
Second , with several of the people that have been hacked we have been able to locate their good in a store in fm being sold for below the going rate. The probably be caught in no time statement is a joke. Who is going to catch them? Especially when it looks like they are using hacked accounts to set up the shop.
Third, They sell mesos via their online website. That is how the mesos are being converted to cash.
Fourth, I don't think they care about the long term economics of the game. There has already been some deflation take effect in Mardia as these hacked items hit the market. Its hard to sell a zhelm for 50M anymore.
Fifth, I really doubt its being done for pride. They haven't shown themselves or bragged about it and they continue to hit one account after another after another. A friend was hit two days ago (Haven't seen him since, said he was going to quit) told me he lost 4 bil worth of items and mesos. If these online sites are selling 100M mesos for 7 dollars that was a $280.00 theft right there.
Sixth, Who's to say they aren't hacking other games also.

If it's on the client's computer, it's not secure. The reason the authenticators are suggested is that there's no way for a keylogger to get access to it - it's not physically attached to the computer, the player has to enter the code from it.

There are a lot of drawbacks in your scheme for people who have multiple computers, multiple accounts, etc. I could make suggestions of ways to improve account security, but tbh Nexon is never going to implement anything I suggest on a forum so there's no point even thinking about it.

Friend got hacked today, she claims her computer was clean as she scanned last night (account was safe last night) and she never shared her information with anyone. Her account was fairly new, she made it last year during Spring. We were able to track down the hacker as he was selling/sold a few of the the equips she was missing at a very cheap rate, same stats, he hasn't put up the more valuable/expensive stuff she had on her bishop yet in his shop. We have no idea how he's doing it but her computer was and is clean as I said.

I would push you to log a ticket anyways stating what happened. The more reports the better, even if you no longer wish to take part in the game, it may help other people down the road.

K I sent a ticket doubt it would do much. Waiting for Nexon's auto reply

For those of you who wanted media attention, here's your chance -

Try commenting on the LA times article about them they're so proud of.

Quote:It's funny that they're so successful when they consistently fail to address all issues regarding their games and constantly put all blame regarding their failures on the players.

They haven't taken responsibility for a massive security breach - keeping in mind that it's unclear where the data actually came from - but Nexon hasn't addressed the situation publicly or offered any compensation to the players effected, many of whom have lost real money. Nexon is an irresponsible company who is more concerned with making money than keeping their customers, most of whom are children, safe. In the midst of this 'crisis' they have continued pushing monetary sales on the players; presumably to make up lost revenue due to their negligence. This has been going on for THREE months.

This is a company who only responds to Better Business Bureau reports by faking sincerity but never changing just to keep their rating above a B.

This article may portray Nexon as a successful company, and in terms of income they are, but anyone who does a little more research into their failures in customer support, willingness to admit their mistakes, or making amends for their wrong-doings would find a goldmine of suffering and frustrated customers who did nothing wrong but play a game that have been shrugged off by corporate fat cats.

Nexon needs to make some serious changes to be worthy of this article

I just sent a huge email to the two editors of that article highlighting much of what I said to those other contacts. I'm hoping they'll get back to me.

Quote:Nexon, a decent company? No. Profitable, sure, but they run their business as if it were AT&T. Substandard everything to maximize profits.

Also included a rant about developers who have multiple DLC packages waiting when their game is released. Depending on gimmicks to maximize cash is lame, put the fucking content on the disk.

Can someone post this for me? I'd rather not register an account.

"Nexon is a very good company if you look in terms of profit. They constantly gain a large sum of money thanks to the sales of their in-game items through the Cash Shop. However, they have very poor customer support, usually much of which amounts to nothing but the typical run-around, where there will be no information actually given to the customer. I agree with this article's premise, but I disagree with using Nexon as the example for this, as they are not the kind of company that other businesses should aspire to be like."

A bunch of our comments made it through, haha. Feels good. Feels really good.

The thing is nexon live by their free to play. So their saying were free to play so what if anything happen to your account you didn't have to pay for anything if you didn't want to its your choice. So what if your account is hacked and its our fault were free to play. It was your fault for paying to get things in game and you didn't have to. Nexon uses that as an excuse to give us the same boring event patches every year and the same worthless customer support.
