The iPad is indeed like a grown iPod, but there -is- a reason behind it!

It's just an iPod -made- for more relaxed e-book reading and online newspaper reading. Things just fit better on a larger screen.

Btw, don't forget that the iPad is INSANE thin, compared to most e-books and especially most tablets out there. You can fit about 3 iPad's in 1 Asus EEE-tablet / netbook.

So yeah, it's a tablet, but then VERY portable and with the superb (own opinion) iPhone GUI.

I'd RATHER type notes on something like the iPad as opposed to my Eee PC because it's even smaller and easier to just press an App. and begin typing. Also with the sounds off I imagine it's more quiet, too.

When your home PC usage begins and ends with an Asus Eee PC, then this looks just as good for most things already.

Unless it was a textbook for school, I could NEVER read a book for any other purpose on an eReader. But the textbook thing would save everyone the trouble of finding the book and maybe even paying so much for a copy. It would just simplify the entire process. But yeah, I'm too attention-deficit to have an eReader like this one and read a book. That and it hurts my eyes and takes the fun out of reading a book I think.

It would be more difficult to read textbooks on e-readers because you can't flip through the book and go to various pages as conciently as you can with a real book.
Also, people can just go to a library.

1. Apple always focuses on thin, that's why this has no ports (except for super-standard), like USB for one.
2. This isn't very portable, its 10 freaking inches. You'd have to get it it's own personal purse or something. Portable (IMO)= Pocket, Very little effort to transport.

It's the same exact f'ucking thing except i don't have to walk/drive to the damn bookstore. What would you say if they started making a magical service where you could buy movies online? GOD FORBID WE MAKE THINGS MORE CONVENIENT.

yeah i'd be surprised if this thing lasts longer on a charge than an ipod touch, of which playing a game on my touch yields about 2hrs of gameplay or less depending on how graphics intensive the app is. This thing, with the huge screen, should be able to play about 1 movie/2hrs of typing, etc. if it has twice the battery power an ipod touch has... I hope they address the need to have it last like 5hrs at least on one charge... if not they're screwed...

Apple wants you money guys, GIVE IT TO THEM. I already own the smaller version of one of these called the iPod Touch, this thing is just garbage. I'm more looking forward to the HP Slate. 10 Inch screen, Windows 7 OS, your choice of a Internet Browser (Firefox pineapple yeah), FLASH SUPPORT, camera, multitasking and multitouch, and a USB port. People think it'll be around $500-$600 and probably 20 times better than this P.O.S.

Ehh, maybe its because Im a nerd but I have read entire books in one sitting because I like to read for a while. I have done this on school field trips, on a plane, and I have also done so during and after hurricanes when there is no power, too dangerous to go outside, and I was all alone because parents were spending time in the bedroom and I was left to myself,

Besides, it looks like you are a smarter person by having a bookcase filled with the best literature for all to see. You don't get that effect with this thing.

My economy teacher was advertising ipad in lecture today....
She said, if you were rich you'd buy iPad, because iPad is a luxery good.

Later I send her an email telling her iPad is an inferior good because it's for those people that can't afford laptops.

Pocket sized books? All my books are way to big for even my biggest pockets....

Why is keyboard a criteria? The iPad has a fine keyboard. In fact, I like virtual keyboards more than regular keyboards. I can type faster on my iPhone than any other phone I've used.

Portability in reference to computers...this is categorized as super-portable. The Macbook Air isn't really "portable" either...or is it? I'd say so, in comparison. Because no decent computer is going to fit in your pocket, portability is more determined by weight and width.

@Milelke, If I'm not actually reading the chapters in my textbooks page-by-page, I'm only staying within a few pages to look at examples for Calculus or Chemistry. I'm hardly ever flipping through large amounts of pagery so I guess that doesn't bother me much. The library at my school only carries the class textbooks like 1 out of 5 times, and there's only one copy which people hide so only they can use it when they need it.

Maybe manga would also be a good idea for an eReader. Unlike some people I know, I don't care how many shelves I stuff full of manga and quite frankly, I hate going to a bookstore to find they don't have what I want. Gayyy. I read an entire volume in like an hour or two so going to the store is really inconvenient anyway.

@ Horusmaster: What a nice generalization. I could afford a nice computer (financing isn't hard), but it's not something I'd even use all that often so it's more cost-efficient for me to use my phone and what I have now since they can both do what I what and need to do anyway.
