GMS only accepts new users from North America?
#1
After reading lolbasil, it seems that Nexon America only accepts new users who are in the United States and Canada, but foreigners with an existing account can still play GMS. So that means when I am in Japan (which I'm not), I can still play GMS, but I won't bother playing GMS ever again.

Part of this calms me down, part of it disappoints me.

Hasn't it been like this since, I don't know, May 2007 or something? I'm pretty sure I've seen that picture you posted many many times before.

It's nothing new. Whenever Nexon licenses MS to a particular region, they are contractually bound to limit access from players from that region to GMS. That funnels a player base to the local MS version. Many players still play using a proxy server so Nexon can't tell where they are connecting from.

Stupid Nexon Tongue

It's been like that for 2.5 years. Kinda late to start a topic on it lol.

Yea, If you view the image from their site and check the info on it, it says it was modified "Wednesday, December 19, 2007 10:57:34 AM" so its been on their site for a while. May not be in plain site but its been there a while.

I really dont mind it, it can get frustrating dealing with people from other countries that dont know how to speak the main language of the server. Of course, this does sound a bit racist, and on the flip side, if I were to ever visit the countries myself, I would then be put into their shoes in a way.

Mexico is part of north america too,i wonder if they will accept people form Mexico? hmmm.

No mexico MS, so yea, unless they lump them with brazil MS a-@

Name change: North America MS.

I prefer USMS though if anyone actually tags it with a new nickname.

People from Oceania can still register for a new account.
#12
This is directly affecting people in Latin America. They're probably going to implement a Spanish MS. To people citing old dates or the exif data: its the same image they use whenever they block anyone. SEA, Europe and now Latin Americans.

Old.
It's ALL North America (not Just U.s & Canada), it also includes anywhere without a localized version (including New Zealand+Australia).

I personally don't like the idea, but understand why they are doing it, since it's easier to deal with marketing on a regional basis. Frankly, the different languages never bothered me at all, and it was great meeting new people from all over the world. When I played Ragnarok, it was fun playing with players from Europe and the Middle East, as well as North America.People in Oceania who already are fluent in English will essentially be cut out from making MapleStory accounts here, so you can't use the language excuse for them.
I'm very curious to see whether Mexico will be included in the North American MS. And we'll still have a French speaking population in Canada and a large Spanish speaking population in the United States proper (not including Puerto Rico) so the server will still have people who can speak other languages on it.

I'd assume you'd be able to create a new account using North American proxy, then log in normally. I don't really find it a problem. If you really need to play GMS then use that workaround.

So if I used a proxy to register, then I stopped using the proxy, would I be able to play GMS from Korea?
#17
Welcome to 2010. Or for that matter, 2009. Actually, more like 2008. Well...

Welcome to 2007. You're late.

I don't see why it wouldn't work. I've never seen anyone throwing a fit online about moving outside of America and being prohibited from using their account. If you make an account in their service area, and then move out their service area, I don't think they'll push you aside as a foreigner and tell you to use some other Maple version.

Thank you, migrating to GMS.

Any good places where I can get a U.S proxy?

wouldnt that be like the european players? The accounts made after this policy was put into action cannot be logged into by those outside GMS's service area. Europeans can back me on this, but dont know how it would apply to Korea. I'd assume the same, and regardless there would be a lag issue involved.
