"Acura Cheap" FM Shops
#1
Browsing the "basil" I came across an interesting thread, and it got me thinking. This is that thread, http://www.basilmarket.com/forum/1380064/0/Acura_Shops_in_FM.html
.

Recently, we had an addition to the setup shops that allowed, from what we know, it allowed you to see who enters the shop and for how long, basically a time log. In the above thread, there were shops listed in almost all worlds, and I know there is one in Bello as well.

Is it possible that some of the recent hackings may have come from a file system flaw that allows access to user-names and passwords (and pins too, possibly) through this "time log" addition when someone buys an item from these shops? It really seems possible with hoe these shops are set up. One in almost every world in the same FM, lots of awesome items for moderately to extremely cheap (in the basil thread theres an pic of a 23 Int female mage overall unhammered for less than 50 mil from khani possibly). It sets up an situation where merchants and high leveled players would be strongly tempted to buy the items, if not to use then for profit, and if there really is a flaw, then its basically leading the players straight to the slaughter.

SP's thoughts?

That makes sence, but i still dont know if that could cause the hackings :/ i just hope nexon fix this SOON! or else they are going to loose a lot of money (i said something that hurts them, see?)

I don't have a big opinion on this. I'd just stay on the safe side until we get this settled.
Edit: Nah this isn't causing hackings.

It's either down to those hackers being desperate for mesos to sell for USD, or that they're trying to lure the owner to buyback the items so they can hack them again and gain a profit.

But it wouldn't explain the fact that some accounts that haven't been played on in a while have been hacked.

This is true. There could easily be more than one flaw with the security.

This is really doubtful. I think these stores are just selling equips cheap so that they can get mesos quickly and be on to hacking more accounts. It would be way too risky and difficult to create such a hack.

Yeah, if you're selling stolen items your goal is to drop them as quickly as possible. They probably are hacked items but not the cause of the hack. They're just cheap so they won't be in their possession for long.

Although branding your stolen goods is a pretty stupid thing to do.

I would agree with the old system we had for FM setup stores, but with the timing in mind of the hackings and the updated stores, it still seems plausible to me. With the new store systems, something could have happened that made it easier to create such a hack.

Its logical knowledge that when you add something to technology, you add a new possible way for it to be exploited. This happened repeatedly with the PSP.

Seems to me like all he does is get IGNs when people buy crap from his shop and script kiddies something to make them DC when they log on.

CHICKEN AND THE EGG. the Acura shops showed up after people started getting hacked on a mass scale. they are just for liquidating stuff as quickly as possible, with 12 servers, i bet these hackers are really short on manpower and are just trying to do as much as possible before people change their info... or nexon does something. who knows what acura cheap means, maybe thats their mesoselling website or something.

well, on the hacked list that hacker posted a while ago.
there was only login ID, password and PIN, no IGN or infos like that.
I suspect it to be direct hack to the database.

Agreed lol, these just look like the hacker's shops where they are just trying to get rid of all their loot as fast as possible.

Then nexon needs to mega ip ban them. But we all know that would never ever ever ever ever (three hours later) ever do.

I doubt buying stuff can get you hacked. Seems kinda far-fetched.
