Teen Pregnancy Rates Rises

KaidaTan Wrote:Too bad they don't teach sex ed in most private schools. Silly Christians.

Hi I went to a Catholic School from grade K till 12 (basically from the start till Graduation in HS) and i was taught sex Ed in 5th grade and in general your parents should have the necessary balls to teach there kid to wear a condom... i do NOT feel sorry for teenage women who get pregnant.... unless the guy LITERALLY forces you to have sex with him (rape) or the birth control failed the girl should know the only person who can uncross their legs are themselves

I often wonder how much of a role human instincts play in this sort of thing.

It's any animals instinct to keep the species alive. Why wouldn't it be the same for humans? Why would humans care about money/ careers more in general? I know that a lot, including myself care far more about careers than the future of the human race, though should that be naturally expected?

I dont see how it could be within your instinct to try to raise a baby when you can barely support yourself. In todays world, Id think people at least wait till they have some sort of income. But these teens aren't, they are taking irresponsible action (mostly) purely because of lust, not because they want to bring a baby to this world.

Is the concept of being able to support yourself really relevant in the animal kingdom though? Was it relevant 1000's of years ago?

blame bad tv. now kids dont watch enough tv since all the shows suck and they have to use their free time on other things, like sex and drugs.

I blame that Secret Life of an American Teen show that my mom watches.
It's like:
"HEY TEENS, DON'T HAVE SEX OR YOU'LL GET PREGNANT!"
5 minutes later.....
"-Everyone on the show has sex 50 times-"

A bunch of movies deal with sex
Pretty much all mainstream music deals with sex
Kids in school are always having conversations dealing with sex, even nerds. (holy pomegranate this is the most annoying part about teenage kids, they feel the need to make a sexual reference about everything that happens in their life)
The internet makes sexual material more available to everyone, therefore, increasing sex

blame everything.

Why are you surprised that teenage pregnancy rates have risen

In high school my lunch conversation consisted of any of the following:

A) MS.
B) Some game where we list bands.
C) Sex.

Not that we were really horny we were just really bored.

Those are the kids that get the s'hit beaten out of them in college though because they're too retarded to realize that no one thinks they're funny.

It's true, jokes and sarcasm that has some sort of reference to sex, is now the new "in". Should see young children clothes too, they even have bikinis at toddler aisles! The truth is, sex sells. I doubt the media and whatever other industry is guna give this marketing opportunity up any time soon. Just like the makers of tobacco cigarrettes - they know it's stupid to be smoking that stuff, they know not to touch it for obvious health reasons, but they market it anyway cuz it's a wonderful endlessly flowing goldmine.

I remember the days when I used to get suprised that girls in my grade got pregnent and had kids. But I have left HS for about 7 years now, so its not suprising me anymore.
But I have recently heard about some 13 year old girls walking around with a ball for a stomach. Abortion is illegal in my state, so I don't know what they do.
I do think it's the media, and inproper sexual education. They should not only explain the mechanics of sex and pregnency, they should teach them the negative consequences.
Like what sort of consequence if you went and got an abortion and its not done properly, some girls has lost their fertility for it.
Thats what it should be about.

1. Hormones kick in at that age, things happen.
2. Only lately (past 100-200 years) have we as humans, or even as Americans, begun frowning upon teen pregnancy. It stands to reason that a cultural behavior would still be acted upon after centuries of being practiced and reinforced.

Best thing to do is encourage the use of contraceptives/birth control and responsible "activities."
