Any recent hacked accounts from Southperry users?
Fumni Wrote:For clarification, that last poster is a loyalist, as he believes Nexon's word as the Gospel. We're the dissenters.

Haha, I was going to post that.

Anyway, something that hasn't been brought up yet but is a pretty good possibility because of Nexon's failures. Does anyone believe that if there were an actual security breach that Nexon would admit to it? I really doubt it that they would. I think that kind of puts us in limbo as far as answers go.

Anyone care to wager when he'll be stripped clean and become the next Bobbort?

I wouldn't be surprised. In fact, it'd be such a delicoius act of irony that I'd be full for the next few months.

We know it's a possibility. I'm still waiting for acknowledgment and an apology for being auto-banned for riding Hak the Stork. Rolleyes

Also, when a company like Google gets hacked, and the first thing it does is publicly make it an issue and shows empathy for its users. Yet if (and when, IMO) Nexon is shown to have had a security breech, they ignore it as if it will go away. What kind of message does that send to us, their customers? Frankly, if Nexon doesn't acknowledge this situation within a business week, I'm honestly contemplating scuttling my accounts and saying goodbye to the world of Maple for good.

Not too likely. If attacks are random, then there is maybe 1/1000 chance of any particular account getting hacked per day. If attacks are targeted, then the hackers would be shooting themselves in the foot if they target a loud defender of the 'only careless fools get hacked' position.

Which makes me wonder if some of the more ridiculous posters there are actually the hackers trying to disrupt any effort to convince Nexon that it needs to act.

Dammit, I go away for about a week and have to come back to this kind of crap?

Is it really so hard to solve something like this, Nexon? Also, if it really is the database they got into, it's possible that they can get stuff off of other Nexon games (DFO, etc), right?

Maplestory is the only one game you can't afford to lose anything in, beacuse majority of your stuff can be traded away and the hackers would profit. DFO is different, because the best stuff are untradeable in any shape or form. no profit in hacking DFO accounts. There's profit in hacking Maplestory accounts

Lost your Maplestory stuff? You're pineappleed. Most people spent a long time accumulating their stuff.
Lost your DFO stuff? Easy to gain back. Run dungeons, sell stuff; buy back or hunt for what you lost.

Same with Mabinogi, the rare items are hard to sell quickly, and even rare can regained if you were able to get once, usually. The truly rarest stuff being skill related and once acquired remains yours.

Looks like we might have a clue from Bobbort. He posted on the Maple forum recently. See the bold.

Bobbort Wrote:Remember to keep things civil here guys/gals

There is no proof for either end of this so everyone is just speculating. Though that list of user names and passwords wasn't just pulled out of thin air. I have come to find out my name was indeed on the list. Regardless if Nexon was breached or not, until they say anything we are all just beating a dead horse here.

Saying Nexon was hacked or wasnt hacked is not a factual statement as we can neither prove or disprove either side. There is quite a bit of "evidence" that would lead one to believe nexon was compromised. IF a 16 year old kid can get nuclear weapon launch codes, someone can very well break through the security here.

Just keep the forum rules in mind when posting and remember you are talking to other human beings here.

Sorry if it's been brought up before, but maybe a corrupt nexon employee is selling info to meso selling sites to make an extra $$$? In that case hopefully (s)he stopped because nexon is investigating it now and changing your pw would solve it. Hope (s)he gets caught or never does that again. That is if that was the reason in the first place =[

Considering accounts were freshly hacked even yesterday, no.

I usually lurk around here and come back in spouts every now and then to post. I logged onto Maple for the first time in around 3 months yesterday and decided to make myself an Aran, after playing for nearly the entire day and getting myself to level 42, I try to log back on this morning and my pin was incorrect. I check the Nexon site and all of my characters are stripped on rank. I don't use hotmail, I don't use MSN. I use my school e-mail.

I have never told anybody my account information and I use different login names for every single game and account type that i have. So I lost around 10 billion meso worth of items/pure meso in a single night. I guess it was good incentive to finally uninstall and play WoW only.

I mean the employee now stopped leaking info, not that the hackers stopped hacking the accounts they received before the leaker stopped leaking.

That requires far too many assumptions and far too much self denial to be trustworthy. Trusting that to be true is the same thing as trusting the "it could never happen to me" defense.

For the sake of others, even though you're through with the game, please file a ticket to Nexon about the incident and if you lost any NX (you can verify via the website if it was spent while you were inactive) please consider reporting to the FBI's IC3 division. The more people who add their voice to the problem today the better odds of their not being another victim tomorrow.

I did file a ticket to Nexon about the incident. The funny thing is, I had around 250k NX on the account from when I was merchanting MTS before I went on a bit of a hiatus. All of it was spent but after seeing that this incident is apparently extremely common right now, I don't even have the energy to do anything but file a ticket. Just seems like the game went all to hell to me, but for the sake of others I filed a ticket for everyone else that this is happening too.

Filing a case with the IC3 takes about the same amount of time/effort as a Nexon ticket, but has infinitely more possibility of long term real world impact on the situation.

You can file one here - http://www.ic3.gov/default.aspx
And read the FAQ here - http://www.ic3.gov/faq/default.aspx

Couple more clues from SW posts.

SW, 'Cynical', jan 24
'I was searching my different usernames on google and i found that 1 of them had been posted in the list of 150+ accounts the wierd thing about it is that the pw and pin were my old ones that i havnt had for 2 years and nothing was missing on any of my characters on the account'

So the list is old old information. (Bobbort should have changed his pw once in a while.) So its looking like while the list does contains real info of real accounts, and probably was not the result of physhing or whatever (i assume bobbort is no dummy), it probably has nothing to do with most of the hacking going on.

another post:
SW, 'AznAlvin', jan 24:
'That guy hacked me, but I was on playing other acct. so I tracked my char. I was able to go on nexon.net to change password, but could not stop the hack. He went through two main characters. Lost 2 pacs, scg, overall luk, 92+ att Asura, 10 att ms shield, 15 piece of time and 250mil. I saw the post before me saying that characters got hacked have ms earring, I dont know that is true or not, but my character wearing maple earring.'

While this is not precisely written, it sounds like changing the password did not prevent the hackers from relogging onto other characters. This makes the 'logging bypass' theory sound more likely.
Edit: On re-reading, not entirely clear what what the order of events is, so who knows.

Lacking clarification I would actually interpret that as "I logged into the website and changed the account passowrd while the hacker was already logged into the account, which didn't stop the hack."

Watched two friends get hacked today. Both computer science majors who know quite alot about computer security.

Considering this is becoming such an epidemic, is there any real solution to all of this if the case that it is a breach on Nexon that any of us will get our items back? Could a major rollback fix all of these problems, or are we now onto an area where it's too late and our consolation will end up being 2x exp events! Even though you have no items!
