Wtfsquids

I'm getting pretty aggravated lately. I keep dying at squids and pretty much gave up with it...I have the tendency to take my eyes off the screen...but that's not the issue in this case...I just keep getting peach slapped or landing on them. I decided to try voodoos/hoodoos but getting a map is freaking hopeless. Does anyone have any training suggestions (yes I've read Jackk's thread)?

Learn the map better. Learn where squids spawn. Learn to watch your screen.

You shouldn't be at squids if you are getting 1hko'd anyways; if you have enough HP then learn to pot faster. Or buy Auto Pet HP.

What is your level? probably isn't a good choice to train at a place where you get 1 hit killed as above said.

you could go with the mega old-school way and Zombies to 8x (assuming your in the 7x according to the info bar thingy <<<<) =P Or FoG is also a place to go...

Or if you're extremely bored I'd Pirate pq just for the hat xD

Squids are a terrible place to let your eyes wander...

Always, always, always keep your HP topped off.

Most important thing.

Hello, I'm level 80+, and I'm here to make your life a living hell.

Once archers hit the big eight-oh, we transition from our safe v/h, fog, coolies (max 500 damage), to big bad gobies/squids/newts (1.5k+).

Squids takes adjustment. This isn't v/h where you went there the first time, spammed strafe, and was fine. I went to squids at level 81 (after a long battle with coolies from 54 onwards, I mass genocided them so much they decided to change their maps to keep me out!), I can't say I was fully comfortable with the map until around 84, and I was still dieing once or twice a level.

From 81-84 (squid map 1), its safe to say I was dieing at least 4 times a level, if not more. I constantly take my eyes off the screen because of picture in picture (pretty much a TV in the top left corner covering the minimap, that's how I train), so I die a ton.

Infact, about 10 minutes ago I died at gobies thanks to a mass orgy of 3 pissed off bonefish and 2 pissed off houses. This is what happens with archers. We have such low HP and rely so heavily on our skills that breaking attention can result in death.

Technolink's personal opinion of archer hardness:

And no, that does not mean at lvl 80 it's really hard then it goes down to 89. It means its that hard from 80-89 =D

Welcome to the world of a 8x+ archer. Where the second highest proportion of archers quit and make dits/clerics (first being 6x and they make sins).

Actually, the highest proportion of archers probably quit the game during their 1x, becoming bored with the game after trying it out for a few hours.

Don't delude yourself, that's the bulk of the 7 million odd players in GMS.

Anyway, semi-on-topic, I don't quite understand your chart, Techno.

Never. Nothing about this game is even hard. Even saying the toughness is 85 is wrong. It should be like 10. Everything else is 0.

I'm pretty sure something along the lines of getting a beginner to level 200 without leeching would be that hard or close at least.

Squids is...kind of easy for me...just um. Don't take your eyes off the screen. If they OHKO you (And they shouldn't, they only touch for what, 1.3k with a helm) then you shouldn't be there. Use white pots to tend ink blots when your HP is 300 below your max, otherwise you'll be fine. I only died there a few times when I forgot to pot after I was in an ink cloud and touched one. xd then again I'm a Sniper...but really, even as a Ranger you shouldn't use pots excessively.

That isn't hard. Just extremely time consuming and would require the patience of a saint.

Ah you're right. I doubt there's anyone willing to try that anyway.

I'd say to watch your screen, but I'm in windowed mode, and reading this thread while I bottom at Newties...so that'd be a tad hypocritical.

Just get used to the map Biggrin

lol, the chart was my opinon. And 100 is "Wow, this is so boring I can't do anything *quits*". 80-89 sucked for me, and I did quit for a long period of time, so I consider that the hardest time of the game that I've experianced.

Which map of squids are you on? First or second? I personally prefer 1st map, but both are possible to train on.

My advice is this, carry white pots around with you. Whenever your hp sinks 300 below your max (or even less), just chug one and continue. Keep your hp full at all times without overpotting: best of both worlds.

I personally preferred the second map. Sure, they hit harder but if you're decent at it you practically never get hit (specially with 1 ice shot).

I took way less total damage in the second map and the exp was comparable :-p Of course, if you have a zhelm, you'd take less damage in the first map.

My cousin only taught me the 2nd map, so i trained there...

imo, 2nd map has more sniping spots and is easier to navigate even if they hit harder.

i used barbarians and pizzas from NLC to cover my hp costs...

barbarian everytime I touched the squid or got slapped (the slap can do 1500 damage apparently if you're close enough). use a pizza when you're out 900 life or less (by then you should have used a lot more mp anyways).

If you use puppet right, you never get hit at this place....

I dont think the slap does 1.5k if you're too close. I think its just that the slapping animation moves the squid close enough that you take a physical bump, hence the 1.5k, which is what squids do to you when you run into them. The normal animation is only roughly around 600-800 dmg IIRC

I had the same problem with squids. It took a while to learn.

You should only do Squids if they 2hko you. 1hko makes it impossible to gain any real XP there because you WILL get hit.

You cannot talk or take your eyes off of the screen while actively hunting squids. If you have to do that go on a rope and then to Cash Shop.

To actually survive nearly 100% of the time, have HP autopot on your pet, and also always tap the pot button the moment your HP falls below the level where another hit would kill you. That means tapping the pot button each time a squid touches you, or after a Lethal Squid has hit you with its ranged attack a couple times. Practically speaking, Autopot becomes basically a backup; I almost always potted myself by this point. Be generous in your pot expenditures in your later stages as a Bowman. You simply cannot afford to let your HP fall to the point where another hit will kill you. Wasting a few extra pots is not nearly as bad as dying an extra 4 times a day. And keep in mind that while your HP is above the point where another hit will kill you, you almost likely will NOT die. Once you get potting right down in Squids, you will die once a day, and probably less.

The potions I used were Ginseng Roots for HP and Supreme Pizzas for MP. That means each pot you use recovers both MP and HP and is useful in every situation. I personally found those to be the most useful potions.
