Judgment Wrote:Just remember to use a different E-mail/Login ID/Password when you sign up for them. Yes, because private server owners are going to sift through the database to try the logins/e-mails and ENCRYPTED passwords to see if they work in GMS... that makes sense.

Overall, I approve of private servers. I've played them on and off since Odin. They let people who don't have enough time to enjoy the official servers to let loose and have a ball. As long as you don't (stupidly) use the same info as your Global account(s) then you'll be 100% safe (not that they'll go through all the accounts and try them all, but still). Also paying attention to what "client" you download is smart as well, but oh well. All the fun features and additions to the high-rate servers and the relaxation of the low-rate servers give a nice choice to players to choose from. As others have said, if you're having drama with friends and acquaintences and you just want to get away, a private server is a great place to hide.

Oh, I suppose I should put my opinion in instead of adding my pimento comment.
I approve of them. Quite honestly, I don't care if Nexon is shutting them down because they're just trying to protect what they've created and what's rightfully theirs. I'm not against them in anyway, I play them, I've been a Game Master for one of the biggest private servers in history. (If you guess which, I'll give you a cookie...) And I was a Game Master for the first public private server to get to v75... when they shut us down, I was kind of pissed, but got over it within a few days after coming to the realization that Nexon was just doing their job and it was bound to happen anyway. But changing what I do approve, I DO NOT approve of the stupid high rate servers. (Anything over 50x is really boring) I would like a decent, non-spoonfeed, 10x or lower server...

I've never tried maple private servers, but I find that high rate servers in general are a great way to burn out on an inconvenient addiction. I'd still prefer official servers for serious business, even if they're as badly managed as Nexon's.
Conciente Wrote:Private servers are a waste of space and time. You should only play on the real server. If you want to test stuff, take your time and test it on the real game. All private servers should be shut down and the owners sued for massive amounts of money.I have to agree with this. One of the cool things in Maple is getting to a certain lvl, adding a point in a skill you wanted to have for soooooo long and play around with it like there's no tomorrow To test if you like a class... Can't you tell that from looking at the skills & youtube?Still remember my first point in blizzard, CL, ifrit, hurricane, shark wave (yesterday xD)... good times...

Well, I suppose I have to say I do like them. As said already, it is a good way to experiment with classes and try out things that would otherwise be impossible or take a lifetime in the real server. Not to mention there are quite a few advantages over the real server:
- No exp lose for dying (Hey, you lagged and died at 199, thereby losing over a week's worth of exp? No problem, just come back and continue training) - Free NX (liek omgz, it is actually free depending on servers) - No wait for travelling (Missed the Hak/Boat/Train/etc. because you saw XX:X8 and just as you entered the next map to see XX:X9? No problem anymore!) - Controlled Smega use (Not always, but possible. Sometimes I am just tired of immature kids who showcase their dicks all.freaking.day.long.) - GM/Admins that actually do something (Not always, but at least they exist and they actually do work!) - No need to go broke for HP washing in order to survive bosses (Let's face it, unless you reach level 200 in the real server, the likelihood of fighting Pink Bean is next to none due to the unreasonable HP required) - No need to bust out billions of mesos for a single skill book just to see it fail (Really, whoever thought of that system needs to be shot)! - Way easier scrolling (Something broke? No problem, buy that item from a customised shop and continue scrolling without using another few billion just to risk scrolling something). - Access to all items (Look, you can buy iTCG related stuff without having bust out an unholy amount of mesos). - Events that are actually fun (I would take Fighting some bosses or jump quests with server friends over Lagging in a screen of OVER NINE THOUUUUUSAND Ultimates fighting a fake Pink Bean that gives you nothing and makes you waste all your pots anyday!) - You can actually boss (Lol, never had the chance to fight a certain boss? Well, it may be free here or ask a GM to summon one for you, see also my comment below) - Lots more others that I cannot list For reasons such as class testing and bossing (And coming from Scandalia, where there is always drama with guilds/HT problems of d/c hacking, crashers, etc. this is really the only way to get a shot at these bosses) I would use a high rate server since that will let me experience the closest experience to the real thing. In addition, ever wanted to have a good shot at Pink Bean without HP washing (Few ways to get around varying from servers)? Well, here is the one-way ticket for trying out Pink Bean. For actual enjoyment reasons I would choose a low-rate server. Honestly, even 4x would be quite an improvement because it really sucks that in the real server that even with 4x at the higher levels will get you about ~3% every 4 hours or so. Though I am not so much into these simply because sooner or later some guy named Lloyd KoRn will start going bat**** insane at you. Though for the mentioned reasons I do like Private Servers, I think the main reason that I like them is because they give Nexon the proper kick in the arse that is needed! Seriously, with their faulty ticketing system, it is no surprise people run off to PS. I mean, look at what's currently happening, a possible exploit with accounts being hacked (Even worse, look at MSEA for crying out loud), I find that PS exist for this reason of telling Nexon, "Hey, your management is seriously Ananas comosused up, and it is clear you are just autoreplying to all tickets, so we're off." Of course, Private Servers are illegal, but hey, if Nexon will not listen through their tickets and there is no other way to get back at them for their negligence of players and auto-responses, at least there is Private Servers, a good way to hit Nexon's wallet for Ananas comosusing up so much. If I were to go into the shoes of whoever was hacked (In Scandalia, there is a guy who knows an exploit to hack into an account knowing the IGN, and has already took down a few major guilds; Scandalians will probably know who he is, but people outside of Scandalia may be sceptical, so take it or leave it), then Private Servers is the one of the few choices to enjoy the game that you could not enjoy because you were hacked (And being not in favour of leech, levelling a character into the 180s or so will take quite some time, especially if a player has been playing since Beta and all). Some aspects of Private Servers against Real Servers are debatable though, so in that case each to his/her own then.

Hopper there is a rule that while we can talk about P-Severs we can not give out info about them like where to find them. like all the other times go out and look the thing up , dont just ask simple easy answer questions like this one.
back to the thread ; i already posted my most general thoughts on P-Severs . i just want to add a few more points to it . one of them being the fact that the way things are going P-sever looks more like a real sever now then does GMS . ( i would say MS Sea was turned into one cause of the crazy bow that has like 1000+ every thing ). another point is the fact that if you we're to get hacked in some case the gm can track down the hacker , ban him/her and give you back your things ALL with in the same Day/Week. unlike most "Real Severs" that's not going to happen ever in a million years. alot of the severs also have custom places and events and other content that i doubt any of the real severs would ever do for another million years as well.

Wow hyperhopper..is it really necessary to ask for a private server 3 times on the same page?
I think private servers are good for the same reasons a lot of people already here said. But it's very hard to try different builds considering every single private server has already maxed skills..anyway because of that I find them very useless.

I use my Private Server in Localhost when I'm bored.
I use it to try out high-level characters, scrolling, and other features, but I also like to make new maps, etc. It often is quite entertaining. Though, the lack of the features of Private Servers really is HUGE. The main problem are scripts. Many great things like PQs, nice quests and other stuff are server-sided in the official MapleStory, making it impossible for them to work in Private Servers, if not coded. Many of them really are complex to code, therefore many private servers don't have them. It's one of the features which obviously Private Servers lack, and one of the most important differences between private servers and GMS, and that's why I'd never quit the official servers for private ones. If the official server files were somehow leaked (which is almost impossible, even for the most experienced hacker in this world), Private Servers became indentical as GMS and someone found a way to constantly update the server files after each GMS update (?), I wouldn't probably even think about it twice before quitting lolGMS. The company overall sucks, and they've shown us that all they care about mostly is money, like any other company. Only difference is, they care less about players than most of the companies. Right now, though, Private Servers mostly suck. They lack many and many features which GMS has, without counting that nobody is still able to make a localhost for the newest versions, as it got harder and harder after they started packing it with Themida and implemented the IP check.
Pservers are good for testing and that's about it. I think the irritations of the real game is just is part of the experience.
If you can take the time to make a Pserver you can take the time to develop your own game with your own graphics and what not.

All I remember are douchebag administrators when I saw my friend play one (well, several).
Plus the fact they're all dead.

Waste of time for a free MMORPG. A p2p one like WoW I can understand. I played one and it was pretty fun the first few hours or so. Not enough players so it became very boring.
2010-01-19, 04:40 PM
I’ve tried them to test out things like other people have said but I would never play them full time. They are usually very unbalanced which leads quickly to boredom.

my sis likes the highrate ones. and i like the low-rate ones. but like everybody else. i use it just to test things out,
