Games worth playing for the ps2?

Recently i got a ps2 borrowed from a friend, he "had" all he kingdom hearts plus their final mixes but for the "oh pomegranate my brother/sister broke the cd's" reason he lost em, so i being a nice guy downloaded them all, and played them, now i have this ps2 sitting there with 3 games...

Recently i got metal gear solid 3: snake eater, katamary damacy and disgaea 2, but i can't think of anything else... tried god of war 2 until i saw it need dual layer dvd and i don't have one and i don't feel like buying one just for 1 game while i have a tower of 25 dvd's waiting...

Tried tales of abyss, stupid thing wont load the world map correctly... tried to search for tales of symphonia ps2 version but couldn't find any... and i loved it in the gamecube... i just wanted to check the new hi ougis ;o;

So... anyone, good games for the ps2? i like rpg's friend told me to get .hack games and guilty gears... i don't know nothing about hack and the only GG i played was GGX2 reload for the pc...

Don't play Metal Gear Solid 3 yet. Get Metal Gear Solid 2 first, and possibly MGS1. Compared to MGS3, MGS2 couldn't hold a candle in how memorable the game is. After all....... SEMI-SPOILER ALERT it's the story of Big Boss.

well i finished it already... it feels like getting into metal gear solid for the first time... after all it is...

I guess i took the story from the start than from the middle with MGS1 and 2

A fun and challenging game is Valkyrie Profile 2. Try it out

The battle system is very unique, and tons of eye candy.

Haha, the vids on youtube aren't that good. They're mostly overpowered chars... Anything with Freya isn't worth watching, since she's so broken. It takes some strategy because in the 3rd chapter, the difficulty jumps up insanely. For example, you collect items with various effects during your travels. These can buff yourself, or debuff opponents. These are essential to continue on the game. Plus, you need to collect accessories to learn new skills and become stronger. This game is definitely not for younger players, it's very hard.

During battles, it's more of a strategy thing than a hack and slash. You have a limited number of moves you can use based on the metre on the bottom. You have the option to split your party, and all sorts of neat stuff. One of the best battle systems I've ever played.

That's a reason why some people dislike it. Your choice to play or not but if your ps2 is modded then why not give it a shot f3s?

Shadow hearts and Shadow hearts 2: covenant. The first is really good, but the graphics is kind of old, the second one is possibly the best RPG released on PS2. There's also a third but it blows. Star Ocean 3: til the end of time is awesome, and so are the Suikoden games released on the console, 3,4 and 5. Suikoden tactics is kind of dull though. Romancing SaGa and Radiata stories have some awesome elements though they won't go those extra miles. The .hack games are special for us that play mmorpg, the first 4 have piss poor graphics, but the last 3 looks kind of nice. That's all RPG titles I could think of, as for action, devil may cry is great and if I recall correctly, the first castlevania game for PS2 was also fun.

well, i really saw many gameplay vids, i like strategies and all that but i really found it boring, i guess ill just pass it.

Because Symphonia for the PS2 is Japan only.

The only thing the PS2 really stood out for was it's massive library of RPGs. If you're into platformers or shooters, chances are you've already played all the good ones. Fighting games on the PS2 are a myth.
I'm too lazy to list decent games for the PS2 so I'll just leave with an emote.

Hella strong bosses in there, even Lenneth from Valkyrie Profile, as well as some others from Square games i think (havnt touched it in a while cause the boss im on atm is balls breaking hard).

Obvious additions to this list is Final Fantasy X, because its among the best FF games (looking and a pretty good story). FF X-2 is good also for a refresh after FF X. Id also suggest FF XII, but it can get tiring compared to other FF games (active battle system is annoying to me).

Nope, CarrionCrow is right. Radiata Stories is great in theory but it's execution was SO poor. It's a suikoden clone that butchers the fun of gathering hundreds of allies by making you micro manage everything in the entire world. Not that fun. Also KICKING STUFF is dumb.

????????????????????????????????????????????????????? Final Fantasy X is among the worst Final Fantasy games. Decent graphics, awful story and annoying characters. Final Fantasy X-2 at least has really good gameplay dispite it being both totally insulting to women and stupid as hell. GURL POWA.

FFXII is hit or miss. It's something you have to experience to know, though. It's one of my favourites, personally, but because it strays from random battles and a typical RPG battle system a lot of people dislike it (imo that's a silly reason.) but yeah. something you should try for sure.

As for other games that I can list, I've got dozens but can't think of many of the top of my head. Rare games that you should buy if you ever see them include the suikoden series (suikoden 4 was... not great... same with tactics. But the rest rule.) And Shin Megami Tensei series games. Nocturne is probably one of the most difficult RPG's ever created and it's a ton of fun. Also weird as hell. Digital Devil Saga is in that same branch of games and is something to look into. Odin Sphere is also unique and fun. Also gorgeous as hell.

I dunno, to keep going I'd have to go dig through my games to see what I have.

I'll second going for Star Ocean 3 for starters, then since you played both Disgaea 2 and Katamari, I'll recommend going for their side content. Disgaea and We <3 Katamari respectively. I'd second more of those titles, but since I haven't finished many of them myself yet, I can't say anything with certainty.

Beyond those and the aforementioned, I recommend Atelier Iris. There are more games to the series, but it can drag on in the later ones, and they didn't really do much to improve upon the system. It is similar to Golden Sun in a few regards; turn based RPG + some Dungeon map stuff; though not nearly as good as that masterpiece. It also has a creation system which is accompanied by very amusing scenes when you craft something new at the store.

One more RPG to recommend would be EITHER Dark Cloud 2 or Rogue Galaxy. Rogue Galaxy is more or less Dark Cloud 3, but they both were unique enough to change the title. It mostly depends on your preference in environment for the story. They are Action RPGs that almost fully depend upon a creation system within the game to progress. You may have already figured this out about me, but I like creation and collection. The reason I'm only recommending one or the other is because many of the games that follow these series can get repetitious.

Outside of the RPG genre, I'd recommend both Shadow of the Colossus and Okami. I'll admit SoC is a bit slow most of the time, but it has an epic feel to it that not many games have. As for Okami, assuming you tolerate Japanese culture, it was a true stylistic masterpiece. The port to the Wii doesn't quite do it justice.


Unless you are willing to follow a series for an extended period of time, which your vision of "boring" seems to indicate, that's about all I can recommend for now.

Best thing is that you can buy all these games for like $10-20 'cause they're SO OLD and probably LOLGREATESTHITS.

Yeah well, the console isn't mine, I'm really giving a gift/doing a favor to a friend, and i get to play some games, i own a wii, gamecube, n64, etc and all the games are legit, no pirates or anything, including my DS games.

And i found THAT Valkyrie project boring well.. it didn't seem like my style, i like real time rpg battles like ToS and stuff, but that game gave the feeling of a lame real time thats not really real time battle... and the whole einherjar thing was confusing (i heard einherjar and i though riviera... too bad its nothing about it xd)

Not a real time battle rpg, but Dragon Quest VIII is amazing too.

If you can get a better copy, play Abyss. It's hella good.

Action eh? I can't say that I'm an expert in that area, but here goes I guess.

I think the Ratchet and Clank series would be a decent thing to get into for starters. If you hadn't played it on another console, Pychonauts had a very clever script and Mario Galaxy mechanics before Mario Galaxy on one of the stages. If you like farming down dozens of mobs at once and have a little tolerance for a bit of a convoluted skill/equip system, then Shining Force Neo/EXA might not be too bad either. Dawn of Mana wasn't a really good "game", but the game mechanics are reasonably fun to play around with for, and since you won't be paying anyway, I think it would be a decent 5-6 hours.

Again, I'd like to recommend Star Ocean 3 and Rogue Galaxy. Star Ocean 3 since the battle system is more or less a copy of the tales games. Rogue Galaxy because it was just a good game and still has that action RPG element that reminds me most at the moment of Kingdom Hearts (Really high jumps).

Given what you've said, you probably wouldn't like the Atelier Iris I mentioned earlier.

This. Up Your Arsenal was f[I]ucking brilliant. Get a few of the old Guitar Hero games if you have decent dexterity in your fingers, those games can prove to be a great way to make time fly if you really want to get good at it.
