Ventrilo and Music?

My computer has 2 headphone jacks and 2 microphone jacks. 2 in front 2 in back. I was wondering if i plug my headset for Vent into the front mic and speaker ports, and my computer speaker into the back speaker port, [SIZE="2"]Is there a way to get only ventrilo sounds/woices etc, to come through my headset, and have maple Background music/ Winamp etc, come through my computer speakers?[/SIZE]

From the looks of that post, what you're trying to do will require the purchase of a soundcard. I'll continue searching for any other solutions.

To be honest, I don't think this is possible...or at least, not with one soundcard. I'll admit firsthand that I don't know enough to be certain (which is also why I avoided responding here), but my theory is this:

If you have played around, you'll notice that for many sound-editing programs, they tend to have output options. Options that allow you to use which driver. I'm guessing, if you have two sound cards onboard, you'll be able to select which program will output its sound to, say, A, and which program will output its sound to B. I'm not familiar with winamp (since i dont use it) enough to tell you if such an option exists, but I'm almost certain ventrilo has it. Though, it's been awhile since I lasted used that as well.

By the way, all computers generally come with an integrated sound card...meaning it's stuck on the motherboard. If you're REALLY up for dishing out money on an idea that could possibly fail, go for it. You need only to buy one sound card, as you're taking into account of the one that's integrated on the motherboard.

If there is a method to do such a thing, I haven't heard of it.
(But then again, I'm more of a hardware enthusiast than software...)

I have no idea but what I usually do is just set Winamp to like 25% and turn up Ventrilo.

I'll be the first to tell you that you won't get this to work. I've tried to come up with a solution for this for hours on end.

I found out my sound card actuall has a control panel and in that panel, i found this which i found intriguing.



Think unticking one of them would allow me to do so?

(FYI i have a headphone, microphone and input jack in both the front and back of my computer)

Anyway, I looked that up for you. Apparently the second sound card wouldn't be needed. Instructions are provided here (gotta scroll down a little bit).

I'm gunna go ahead and assume that you have an HP or a compaq tower too, so if those instructions are confusing, ask their *online* tech support. -- Whatever you do, don't CALL their tech support as their phone tech support agents are composed of complete computer-idiots.

lol I'd try this out myself, since it sounds pretty neat, but my compaq desktop tower just fried its cpu chip. So now I'm getting a laptop instead.
