Any recent hacked accounts from Southperry users?
I thought this was interesting too. I am an 13x priest - quit for over a year. Sometimes, out of nostalgia, I do log in but the last time i did log on was 2 months prior to the hack. Even though I'd been gone for over a year, it's still quite heartbreaking to see your own character hacked clean. All the memories of you and your friends building your char -- that's all gone. Anyway, this hacker is strange to say the least. Something is exploited and it's not related to each of us personally, but rather, randomly.

So, instead of reiterating a story, I'll just list the funny stuff. Save anyone reading this the wall of text.

1. Before the week of getting hacked and on the week of, I'd scanned my computer quite thoroughly. My wireless router's been giving me weird problems with redirecting when I use google. Yes, I'd confirmed that it was my wireless but I scanned my computer anyway. Registry was squeaky clean. Antivirus turned up with nothing.

2. The last time I touched my 13x bishop was 2 months ago. For nostalgic purposes I sometimes log on. But very rarely and for very short amount of time. If I'd been keylogged, it would've been picked up in the 2-4 scans I'd done between the week before to the day of.

3. My mule, whose email was tied to that main email was hacked too. There are no records in my main email that indicates the alt email is tied to it (as in, my main is my secondary email for my alt email). The last time I logged on my mule was most likely longer than my priest. Probably 1 year and some few months.

3. Facebook password was changed, thought it was odd too. I'm not sure how facebook's security works.

4. All my friends have quit maple. There are only 2 of them that know my info. But they themselves have quit for almost the same amount of time I have. Neither of these two know my mule.

5. When I regained access to my email, I found two emails - one in each email. One request for my main's pin and another request for my mule's id. Funny how passwords just arent required. Both emails shared different long passwords. My maplestory account is a completely different password from my email.

Hm, maybe a myspace facebook scenario could trigger this? I mean myspace/fb have pretty weak security, did your fb happen to share the same password?

None of them function under the same password.

Out of paranoia, should I be worried about using a yahoo account? Should I request a change to a g-mail account as my e-mail?

If there really is some secret ultimate voodoo it wouldn't help anyway.
Do whatever makes you comfortable, it's likely meaningless either way.
It's not having what you want - It's wanting what you've got.

Gmail accounts are faster to reobtain. Hotmail requires a wait for their human support to respond and the questions you're required to answer are much harder. I've never used yahoo mail so I'm not sure about yahoo.

I'd like to contribute that I never or know any one that got hacked before

IMO those "random" hax are total bs because no one can hack u unless u tell them ur acc info

An inactive account of mine got hacked, which pretty much makes no sense. I lost 4 sets of ilbis, a crappy luk overall, and a 100%'d skanda (but kept my z-helm). It still doesn't make sense why that would happen to an account I logged on about once in the past month to transfer a WG and put myself in a family. The user ID was known by a few people who I doubt would care to hack me. Whoever got in left my password alone and changed my pin (which took a whopping minute to reset).

My other accounts and emails are fine.

*shrugs*

So what? We can conclude he is somehow getting the info from the server, and his targets are totally random?

Most pineappleed up hacker ever.

I came back from a vacation to find my mule account got hacked, somewhere between the v.80 patch and today when I finally got back online. No mules were deleted, and the hacker only took some of the more valuable scrolls, boss pots (apples, power elixirs, etc), refined/raw metals and gems, and (for some reason) every bit of mediocore eq off my noob nightwalker, but left her so-so collection of throwing stars intact.

No other account was touched, and I was lucky that I had half of my scroll stockpile on another account waiting to be sold.

I've always been pretty careful, low risk sort of person when it comes to computers, though I'm not exactly paranoid about security. This is the first time I've been hacked, and I've never shared account info. A grand total of 2 other people know the igns on the hacked account; 1 was with me on my vacation, and the other I've known for years now and have not had a falling out with. What I haven't done though, is change the password/pin since I created the account. It's registered with a gmail address, which is also linked to my facebook, but neither have been messed with as far as I can tell. My contact email has always been set to be invisible on fb (I wonder how well that works), nor have I joined any maplestory groups there.

I've changed my passwords/pin on the account, as well as on my email and fb, but....I don't really know where to go from here. I guess I could keep using the mule account, or I could move what's left to a new one - I just don't know right now.

So there you go. I don't really care if you take it as "just another routine hacking with leaked info" or as some example of a new hacking method; all I know is that this is a pretty miserable way to end a holiday.

so I've never got hacked.

This.

Sorry, but I don't believe in the "wtfbbq, how'd I get hacked?!1". Theres always a logical reason. And if it really is a database problem I'm sure there would be much better targets.

Well unfortunately this isn't totally true if this a database hack....I've known several who are victim of recently hacked accounts...none of which shared their information or anything else for that matter. Browsing many forums concerning this...even the most experienced Maplers are becoming victims of this mess. Leaving the conclusion that....even without sharing information...you could still be a victim....

If it is a database hack why are the richest people in maple not hacked? it makes no sense right?

If you share ur info you will get hacked and people who don't will not...end of the story

I've been lurking this thread for awhile now aswell as recent hacking simularities on other forums, and I must say I'm horrified how easily people are getting hacked. Being that I haven't been on Maple since the end of November, I thought my accounts were safe until this "crisis" was over. Today, I was informed that my HS mule was online a few days earlier and was unresponcive to guild members. The last time I had trained, I took the mesos the mule had gained and put them onto my main account. I usually never take the full suppy of mesos, usually rounding them to the mil, then leaving the rest on the mule incase I need to move it. After my guildmates asked me if I were on at that time, I had said no, and they told me the account had been on for quite a period of time. The info is only known by me and one other person. That person made an HS mule in Yellonde when it came out, and later xfered it to Windia. Being that he had two mules, he gave the other one to me in exchange for a world transfer to move the other mule.
Knowing what I do know about the recent hackings, I quickly logged on Maple to see if I could access my account. Much to my suprise, all the info was correct. The pass and pin were unchanged. I leave my mule at skelegons as a door mule, but it had logged on in the FM, with 100hp. Even more suprising, the equipment that belonged to the HS mule (Maplemas hat, clean sauna, snowshoes, and Maple Wisdom Staff) were still there, along with all of its potions, chair, and ETC items (which had everything from Lupin Erasers to forging materials were still there). The only thing missing were the few thousand mesos that were left on the account after I emptied it out a month earlier, giving it a total of zero mesos.
Shocked and relieved at the same time, I checked the accounts email (a hotmail account) to see if anything had been changed. The password was unchanged. The email had gone untouched since I had recieved the account. I quickly called the former owner who had told me the account was online and we reviewed the information together. There were no emails on the account, no deleted messages, no spam, completely clean. The secret question, account birthday, and address were changed. The former owner lives in Ohio, the address and zip code were changed to one in Illinois. Those were the only things changed.
Other than that, I still have the account, minus a few mesos. I have no idea why someone would bother hacking an account without cleaning it out, or changing the info. They could have at least got a few mil off equipment, potion, and ETC item sales. I really don't know if I should classify this as hacked, but it's something I had no control over. I ran a virus scan on the computers I logged on with the account, and they came back clean. Has this happened to anyone else? o-o

Before, that was my attitude.

Now that it's happened to me, that attitude has changed. I can't wait til the day it happens to you. Then maybe you'll realize the problem isn't you handing out your ID. The problem is your ID being handed out.

imagine you have a million different login IDs and passwords(probably not a million, but imagine a fuckload). Which accounts would have the most money? Could people tell what character you had based on your login ID? Do you think anyone could guess which login ID's had the most money? Heck, just in case it is a leak, the smart people would change passwords anyway, just to be on the safe side. Then, since you have a bunch of login ID's, some passwords are working some arent, why would you waste time on accounts if you arent sure they have more then like 1k mesos total on them?

And i didnt even share info with people i could physically go kick in the balls on this account. Logically, this many different people shouldnt be getting hit at near the same time if it were just a bunch of people sharing info. Its far to coincedental to be just "oh, those XX different high leveled people all shared their account info with someone and got hacked" Especially due to timing, unless they all shared info with the same person (which, considering its cross server and affecting people who have quit for a long time, seems very unlikely) they would be taken advantage of at different times.

Managed to get my email account back...again.

Since my shad was deleted I will never play ms again but I wanted to reclaim my account anyways. Went to the site to reset my password and it says it sent a new password to my email but it never shows up. Tried again for good measure but nope. Is it possible to change your ms account's email? If so I would have done it over 3 years ago.

My Aran is still on ranks so my account has not been deleted just my shad. I still have an open ticket as far as I know but if the email has been changed its like not possible to recover the account?

You can log a ticket asking to have the email you registered with changed. But since you still have an open ticket, you'll have to wait for that one to be closed first.

This basically. You can't tell how rich an account is just by looking at a database of info. It would be like, you have a 100 question test, and they're all different diffculty. You can't just know already "Yes, #1, 5, 13, 46, 88 are all the hard ones" just by knowing the numbers and not actually looking at the problem itself.

It is pretty suspicious that there's such a rapid increase in hacked accounts. I didn't pay much attention to it due to rl issues until a mule of mine got hit yesterday, but now i kinda warn everyone about it.

Check your blocked emails list. Nexon might be under the blocked list
