If anything, Avatar blew everything out of the water. Props to the director for spending a lot of time and money (and wisely waiting a decade later for more advanced technology to create the movie he wanted).
Someone I knew called Avatar a "cinemanical orgasm". While I did not get an orgasm while watching that movie, it was just too epic to describe.

It's not quite sex, but it has the same kind of qualities - an intense bond with their partner, when given respect.
Yeaa! I loved this concept. I was a huge fan of the world, L>Pandora RPG.
Though I felt bad for some of the military goons getting their asses kicked...

Saw this yesterday. Looking at the trailers i didn't think it would be OMG Awesome. Turned out to be a decent spectacle. The world was well imagined; the plot a little predictable, but hey what can you do? You can't be satisfied with everything. I would like to reccomend people to see it before making judgement- keep an open mind with these type of things. Granted it has a lot of eye candy, but it turns out to be pretty good on the flow side of things. I enjoyed watching it

Celebrate! After 26 days of release, Avatar is now the second highest grossing film of all time worldwide with a total of $1,331,140,000. It is also the seventh highest grossing film of all time domestically (and unadjusted for inflation) at $429,040,000.

Btw, James Cameron planned for 2 sequels.

This movie doesn't deserve nearly as much attention as it's gotten. I understand that when you watch it, your eyes nearly explode from the awesome, but for the amount of time and money spent on it i'd expect something more from the plot.

the time he waited was for the technology to develop to his taste, and most of the money is spent on the graphic as well. i believe that he has this storyline years ago

I have watched the movie before seeing any other comments from different people. I have to say I was quite amazed with how the 3D effects were everywhere, much better than the other 3D films I had seen before.
Though the plot is pretty linear and there is a clear maniqueism the feel of adventure and discovering a new world along with all the technological stuff make up for it. The graffics are simply amazing.
Pokahontas though.

I'm planning to see it this weekend...honestly, is this movie anything like 2012? Basically just eye candy, predictable plot?

If you've ever seen ferngully, pocahontas, dances with wolves, or the last samurai you've pretty much seen this story. It just looks pretty.
But seriously, with a budget so large it could probably feed an African village for the next decade I want something with more of a plot and in depth themes than "HURF DURF HUMENS REWIN DE ENVIRMENT"

I watched Avatar recently and I thought it was a VERY GOOD movie. For the small % that says that this sucks, you can just go to hell.
By the way, Avatar is now the top grossing movie in the world before adjusted for inflation (Gone With The Wind is still #1 adjusted for inflation), and is now #1 for seven weeks in the box office.. It just needs 9 more weeks before it beats all the records that Titanic has set.

Amazing movie. At first I was skeptic if to go watch the movie or not - The trailer didn't impress me much. If I actually didn't go to see the movie, I'll be a real idiot! Yeah, it was very long, but it was definitely worth it. Personal advice: don't watch the regular version. The 3D Version offers a new experience. Pandora is a living world, it looks like they just took a camera to an actual world and just recorded everything there!

Yeah, I ended up seeing it. It was an entirely average movie. The graphics were amazing, I'll give them that. But beyond that, there's nothing that this movie has to offer. The plot is a complete ripoff of ferngully, it has no messages that other movies already haven't used, the battles were long and unoriginal, and the characters are flat. Some of the things that annoyed the hell out of me in the movie:
-They completely rushed the exposition. At some points that just had it explained to the audience, and at others you could tell it was just for background. Like when the CEO guy told the scientist why they were there; She's been on Pandora for I'm guessing at least a decade, she would know what they're there to mine for.
-The anatomy of the animals. Why the hell did they all have 6 legs? There's no extra stability for it. I guess it's nice if you happen to lose two of your legs, but that's about as far as it goes. Even further, why were the Na'vi the only ones with four limbs? It's pretty obvious they're from the same evolutionary line as the other animals because of their USB ponytails, but yet they don't have 6 limbs. I'm not saying they must have them, but it's pretty likely they would.
-The waterfalls in the floating mountains. These make no sense. There's no way there's enough water in that mountain to constantly outpour that much water. There's no source for it. Rainfall is one possibility, but the amount of surface area on the top of the mountain is not nearly big enough to get that much water.
-And for that matter, when the hell does it rain? I didn't see it rain once. And the reason why they're called rain forests, which I'm assuming they based this on, Is because it rains a TON. I didn't see it rain, like, at all.
-How did Jake know what to do after he got seperated from his party? You see him take a shirt, stick it in some gooey stuff, and light it. Jake said before he got in his Avatar body he did nothing to prepare for the trip. He had no idea what the anatomy of the world was. So how in god's name did he know this random goo in a tree is flammable?
I'm sure there's more but that's all I can come up with from the top of my head. This movie was average; I enjoyed it, but that was just because it was a showcase of pretty things.

Tree sap is typically flammable. He probably reacted as if on earth without thinking, and got lucky.
