I think the real problem is that it would be impossible to fit everything that would create suspense in such a short amount of time. If the movie ran on longer, maybe to about 4 hours, then we could get a full experience, but I think it was still spectacular even though only the most important details were retained.
I loved this movie. I ed it in 3D.

Somewhat original plot, brilliant effects, awesome setting - one of the best movies ever, IMO. Only problem is that it's way too overrated - it's not z0mgwtpbbqpwnage1337 as everyone says it is.
...USB connection in hair plait to weird alien creature is awesomely awesome.

This quote from TVtropes made me lol:
Not This Troper Wrote:"This movie has become very polarizing, with one group thinking that it was an excellent piece showing how humans need to care more for the environment, and the best thing since sliced bread, and another group thinking it dropped too big of an anvil on the heads of the viewers, had a flimsy plot, and poorly developed characters. Both groups seem to agree that the special effects were spectacular, though."

Movie was garbage. It has absolutely nothing going for it except for it's CGI effects. That's all it is. A spectacle movie. You go in to be wowed by modern technology, then that's it. That's what you paid money for. The story's moral outcome isn't even subtle. It's a film made purely to make the white man feel guilty.
Also, Fern Gully did it first.

Disregard the above post. You can't judge movies if you haven't even seen them, you silly guy. :3

Sure I can. These aren't books I have to read. The content is displayed infront of me, and it's garbage.
Silly guy.

The movie didn't live up to it's hype for me. I felt that the story was very generic. The plot felt like it was Pocahontas set in a sci-fi environment--a white guy(pioneer) ventures to unknown land to learn more about the tribe but he falls in love. Does that not scream Pocahontas or what? The organic-like world was some new considering most sci-fi movies envision a future that's trashed, corrupted or torn apart by warfare and pollution. But it felt like an environment out of a ps3 game to me. The special effects were not up to standard as I felt it should have been considering what cinema potentials such as Transformers and 2012 have shown.

You are mistaken. James Cameron specifically released a book on the entire culture and life of Pandora one month before the movie came out. Anyhow, I thought that the theme song, sung by Leona Lewis was absolutely brilliant. It is the perfect sequel to "My Heart Will Go On." Celine would be proud. I also thought that the deaths were tragic, just like in Titanic. All the poor creatures and Na'vi that died. I started to tear up a bit when it happened. As for the effects, I had a very hard to trying to distinguish the plant life from real plants. It didn't have that CGI look at all.

yea well many people like me looked at trailers at pomegranate to see if the movie is good or not. i didn't even want to see avatar at first because it looks so "fake" (in trailer) and the story was err =\ but i went and guess wat, it blown me away
u can never say anything unless u experience it. what ur saying here is like stereotype/judging someone by their cover/rumor. "oh i heard that guy's asian, he must be good at math, so imma go to him for math help"
seriously =.="

I assure you I am very rarely mistaken. Especially while I am consuming Fruity Pebbles at the time of posting.
Enjoy your mediocre (at best) movie.

I saw this movie about 2 weeks ago, and it was epic!
I really liked the storyline buildup, together with the great oversight James Cameron brought to the movie.
No dull moments, no time stretching, no hasty "wait wait wut?" moments. Just excellent!
Also the 3D IMAX experience was phenomenal and just added the right touch to the movie.
Best movie of 2009 imo!

If you thought that this movie was mediocre at best, let me tell you that you're one of the 5% of people in the world who has seen it that didn't enjoy it. I can guarantee that everyone else thought it was spectacular.

It was amazing and seeing it in iMax 3D paid off.
I actually think my favorite aspect was the plant glowing - it really did make it seem magical.
One thing I didn't understand was when the chick Na'vi said her grandfather, as Turak, united the tribes. Then shortly after, we see clips of Jake going to the tribes on the world (and yes, I think we should have known about them earlier) and convincing them to fight. I was under the impression that that one tribe was all that was left, all that remained of the "combined" tribes, but I guess I was wrong. Rest of the plot had a bit of an unoriginal feel, but I still think most of the little things and ideas in the movie made it unique.
tl;dr Go see it if you haven't. If possible, in iMax 3D.

I saw it and I really loved it. Sure, the plot was a little generic, but I enjoyed the movie none the less. Though I only got to see it in 2D (Only my mom would go with me at the time, and she gets motion sickness), I want to go back and see it in 3D. The movie's plot flowed at a great pace, not too fast and not too slow. I really hope any other movies following this one will have the same charm as the first.
