Chinese AP Exam
#1
Has anyone taken it?
I need a lot of feedback on it, I really want to take it next year when I'm in Chinese 3 PreAP. I can't take Chinese 4 AP because my school doesn't offer it, and because of that it's recommended we try the AP exam in Chinese 3. The only issue is; I feel they are telling that to native Chinese people.

I love learning Chinese, I never write pinyin unless I have to and always learn characters on my own. (The class pace is too slow in my opinion, but the people in there already know Chinese and just interupt class so we can't move on and I get pissed.)
;-;

So please, feed back on if I should take it next year because I KNOW there will be a lot that I probably won't know.

Hell, take it if you can. The more character learning you get in the better. You'll be more prepared for the initial language placement test in college and yeah.

I never took Chinese in high school but I'm in it. I pretty much agree with everything else you said. I'm very happy with my choice of language. Smile
Well, I don't think we move too slow. People can't "slow us down" since my professor has to reach her syllabus dates and if you don't get the material, too bad. Tongue

Let's see if I can make a super simple statement.

我不喜欢我的同学们。他们都中国人,会说汉语。我要学都中文。我说得不好。~

( Wo bu xihuan wo de tongxuemen. Tamen dou zhongguoren, shuo zhongwen (kind of). Wo yao xue dou zhongwen. Wo shuo de bu hao. ) -- Score.

Well, that's a shame. They sound like pricks. Sad
Why the hell are they even in your class?

Btw, I got a question. What's the difference between 会说汉语 and 说中文? I've never even seen the first form of spelling...ish...thing.

EDIT; I'm in chinese 2, and we just learned clothes. ._.'

会说汉语 - Can speak chinese (Han Yu, another way to say Chinese)
While 说中文 is the same thing, I just wanted to point out I knew han yu and zhong wen. Eek

And the last part, 我说得不好。
得 is some particle that never really got explained, my teacher said that you use when you are describing an ability. And in this case I said "I don't speak chinese well" if you translate it into English. Raw translating would be, "I speak bad Chinese."

Yeah, I kinda hate that too... only Chinese people take Mandarin Tongue

加油, 努力一点. 如果你想要好的分数你需要用很多时间来学习。 Chinese is hella hard but I'm sure you can do it!

汉语 is the language spoken by the Han people (almost all Mandarin pople) and so it refers to Mandarin while 中文 is Chinese in general meaning it could be Cantonese or whatever.

I don't know how to use 得 either, it just comes naturally since I"m a Chinese speaker. Maybe it's for past tense? Even though tenses don't exist...

Like you wouldn't say 我会说得汉语, but you could say 我说得很好。

I don't think you really need the 了 in the last one Tongue The Ma at the end doesn't really make it seem as dangerous as it could be..

Then what should you do? Leave it off or what? :f6:.

Can you explain the point of 了?
I add where it's needed, but it sounds like it's just there to make it pretty.
Just like 儿
