I nearly passed out twice after getting one but no sickness afterward.

And you guys are getting it pretty late. I got mine last month. I know tons of people who got it before I did.

It's a worthy trade-off though. It amuses me how some people are so scared of getting sick over the next few days that they'd rather risk their lives not to. O_o

I had swine flu 3 weeks ago... i took some freaking thermaflu and i'm all better... i was for like a week but w/e...

I don't get flu shots because they never seem to actually protect against the strain of the flu that's actually going around, so not only do I get sick from the flu shot, I get the flu again later that year.

I already had H1N1 so I don't have to worry about that. I also had the seasonal flu and another weird local strain of wimpy flu. (Oops.) I'm totally fine after having three different flus, but I will have to say, H1N1 was odd. If you think you have it, it comes on suddenly. I was fine at 9:00 but by 12:30 I had a fever of 101 and I was sick as all heak. The only problem comes from is you have asthma, since it will make it hard to breathe. I don't have asthma, and I did experience occasional restricted breathing, but it wasn't hard to breathe, just more labored I guess. If you do get the flu, always make sure you don't go anywhere, get rest, and drink a ton of stuff. A normal person should be fine. And just so you guys know, I was consulting with my doctor a lot and that's how I know what I had. My doctor is awesome.

I've already been exposed to swine flu, so I believe at this point I'm immune to it. All 4 of the other dorms around mine had people with the swine, and at one point after the signs went up I had a fever for about 2 days. Haven't had problems since. Immune system ftw.

They offered flu shots twice so far. I laughed. Flu shots are silly anyway.

I'm not one for required H1N1 vaccines (as of right now; when it mutates I will be), but when a BSL4 pathogen threatens the existence of humanity, mandatory vaccinations are the way to go. You don't want to have the one person who chooses to not get vaccinated contract the disease, have it mutate inside of them, and then get everyone else sick because the vaccine is all of a sudden useless.

To prove this, give me a list of 3 prescribed medications that don't have any FDA-documented side effects whatsover. A list like that doesn't exist; there are always issues with medication.

Oh, and the seasonal influenza and H1N1 influenza vaccines can be delivered via the FluMist nasal spray for those allergic to eggs or other components of the traditional vaccine solution. There are ways to protect yourself if you don't know.

My parents have been constantly bugging me to get the vaccine, and I've constantly said no.

Understand that you're preparing your immune system to destroy any H1N1 particles that enter your body by getting a vaccine, and these particles are dead and inactivated, unable to infect you. If you take your chances and contract the activated H1N1 virus, your immune system will take longer to respond, guaranteeing illness until it can react and eliminate the threat. Your symptoms will be worse and potentially life threatening, as, again, this virus has active RNA and can work to produce copies of itself and make you sicker. In short, chances are you'll come into contact with activated or inactivated H1N1; choose the inactivated shot in order to prevent the activated virus from ruining a few days - or your life.

Chances are if you get sick on or around the time you got a vaccine, you picked up something else. Schools, work places, and anywhere human beings tend to be packed together for long periods of time are breeding grounds for pathogens. Considering most people get a flu shot in between school and other activities, it's quite easy for the development of another disease to be confused with that of H1N1 or seasonal influenza.

So what can I say? Flu-shots, like any other shot, may be nasty on the outside (most people, myself included, dislike getting a needle poked into their arm), but do a whole lot of good on the inside. It's better for yourself, your family and friends, and your community to get vaccinated.

It's not like it's hard to administer to patients. They offer intranasal vaccines which takes 2 seconds and no needles, assuming you're pretty much in perfect condition prior to vaccination.

Er, kind of. Not-so-popular conjugate vaccines use bacteria to protect against bacterial spread/invasions. I don't know any except Meningitis vaccines, though. The statement that vaccines don't protect against bacteria is completely wrong, though. They very much so protect you from bacteria, because a lot of "infections" for a lack of better words are simply collective bacterium infestations.

If anyone is afraid of the mercury in it, chances are it is from the professionally-administered vaccination. I highly doubt people are fussing because they are worried people will OD on the vaccine, which isn't available to individuals anyway. Not to mention, people wouldn't fear for their own lives if it's the dumbass' fault for ODing anyway. People who take painkillers are still taking painkillers even though retards dump those down their throat and die all the time.
