Common guys he's not that bad of an actor... It's all about the director, if anything we should torch his ass.

Alright guys, I did a direct copypasta from something I wrote on MAL about the leaked script:

My opinion of the leaked script is a tad mixed. I just skimmed over it because it's 112 pages.

It's spoiler heavy- brace yourselves.

Facts to note: Light Yagami= Luke Murray, Soichiro Yagami= Captain Murray, Watari is still Watari, L is still L (the changes to the character can be scene in the spoiler), we still see the name Kira, and there's no Ryuk in this movie. We still have the idea of "shinigami" popping up, he asks a random Japanese guy named Tosh what something means when reading something, and Tosh responds "it's a word we never speak and it's read 'shinigami'".

There's still the Lind L. Tailor scene, Raymond Penber (although now Raymond Roe); but they just cut it after the bus scene. The interpretation of Soichiro/"Captain Murray" is decent although didn't leave quite the same impression as the original from how they handle it. There's still whole LOLpotato chip stuff. L's lines are fairly accurate to the character, there's a few elements that are shoved aside.

The interaction and relationship between Light/Luke and L is almost non-existent, the suspenseful moments where each tried to unmask the other is totally nonexistent in the plot. L doesn't appear to have his trademark mannerisms; which makes his character a lot less quirky and fascinating to the viewer. Dubya tee eff, L eats no sweets! What is this horsepomegranate? Most of the dialogue was dead flat. The character of Luke misses the marks that Light brought in the original: the element of him being a bored genius is hardly done, and he's now a consummate nice guy who gets corrupted by "TEH MAGIKUL EVUL POWAH" of the Death Note and he has a dead mother that pretty much equals Uncle Ben in the Spiderman movies that he has some revenge complex over; rather than him viewing those around him as inferior compared to his intellect and being bored and disgusted by the world around him and his habits with the book leading him to the very end. Also, they really butchered the "L, Did you know Gods of Death love Apples?" scene. Instead, one of the guys just draws a pentagram, and above the body of a dead drug dealer, the message of "Kira was here" is directly written.

However, there's a few changes that do work.
-Ryuk is removed. Adding Ryuk to a live-action would be a massive flop; as the Japanese live-actions proved.
-Misa is taken out.
-No Naomi Misora

This movie may work for an incredibly stupid American audience as a generic thriller, but it will probably never shine as an excellent movie that Death Note could have become. The script isn't anything great, but if this thing sees the light of excellent vision from a good director, it has the potential to be decent; but I sadly doubt it. I wonder if the script was written with Zac Efron in mind and hence why Light isn't written as a bored genius who resents crime and instead this consummate good guy with a complex about vengeance for the death of his mother: probably to make his character look good still so mothers getting their children who are watching just for Zac Efron won't be appalled by the contents of this movie.

Zac Efron for me isn't the real problem, but the treatment and writing of the script.

Silliness aside, if they don't make Zac Efron act like a bored, cold calcuating man with a god complex this will just drive people away from the actual awesomeness that is Death Note. I'm only on chapter 49 and I can't stop reading it.

Ugh, great, because there aren't already 3 at least semi decent movies, hooray for a inevitably ruined hollywood version. If we get lucky, it might even have the same development values as Dragonball Evolution!
