MapleStory 2 was brought up and it was said in a press conference to introduce the new class Evan that the development team for MapleStory 2 was created last year and has been in development.
That’s all what we get to hear, more details cannot be revealed at the moment.
At least, it is 100% confirmed that the sequel to MapleStory will be released in the future.

In 2010, there will be major updates. For instance, next winter MapleStory will release a new class + another major update. And the next summer, they’re thinking whether they should release a new class or update current ones.

I'm interested in the possible "update current ones" option....

I wonder if they're going to finish up these Hero classes before a sequel to MapleStory is released. Also, if a sequel comes out, it better make the players' actions in Maple 1 to seem at least slightly evident that it worked if it's in the not too far future; like Maya getting better. Despite me giving her medicine, she just never got better! I'd also like to see that the world as it exists changes a bit. Think a lot like Pokemon G/S/C when you saw Kanto again after years- there were cool things like a new gym leader is Fuchsia City- the daughter of Koga because he went to the Elite 4, Cinnebar Island erupting and pretty much Blain's gym disappearing, and the player from the 1st game becoming an epic trainer who hangs out in an incredibly powerful place.

They're going to have to update the current classes eventually. I mean, just look at Aran; why even bother making a Hero or DrK?

But I also agree with a previous poster. Update current classes and move along creating new content! Specifically 120+ content considering populations of 4th job players are huge now, and there aren't any specific "PQs" or things outside of bosses for us to do.

I wonder how long they plan on keeping Maplestory 1 open when 2 comes out. Unless they're going to basically move all the existing characters into 2 with new mechanics and reset their SP and AP or something.

As for the class revamps, lets hope that we get that before a new class. I'd certainly like to see the old stuff redone.

You don't think they could hire a separate team and have them taking control of a whole new game? I mean, if the idea is to just have the legendaries as the mains in Maple 2 and it being an entirely new game I don't see why we'd need to move our old characters over for any reason. In a sequel to any game you rarely get to transfer character data. Although it would be neat if they implemented some code system where you could get something free for having a 4th job character on Maple 1.

Not to mention two separate teams working on two games = twice as much new content. And twice as many profits for them, potentially.

Don't bother with a second game... The current one is fine. Just keep updating it. Maybe 1 new class per year or something to keep things fresh.

I agree. I got my Paladin to 143 now, and I don't want to just have them shut down Maple and put up a whole new one that's slightly different, making all my hard work become pointless. I swear to god I do not want another Maplestory, since the first one is only slightly borked, and at least this one I'm high level and enjoying my time.

There's always a possibility of some kind of data transfer to the new version.

It's a slap in the face to people who invested lots of time in their characters. If they can't transfer everything over to this "new" Maplestory, I'm quitting and playing WoW. If they are just updating the current Maplestory, that's perfectly fine.

Assuming the two are at all intertwined. MapleStory 2 could take place at the same time zone, but on the other side of the world. Same graphics, same mechanics, but different items, classes, and areas. Kind of like Pokemon DPPt vs RSE.
Be a great way for them to look at all the flaws of Maple and fix them with out screwing users.

Why are you guys acting like MapleStory would have to be shut down and erased if a Maple Story 2 was released? I don't understand this logic. NO IT'S IMPOSSIBLE TO HAVE TWO GAMES IN EXISTENCE AT ONCE YOU'LL CREATE A PARADOX.

It's entirely possible that both MapleStory and MapleStory2 could be run and even include extras and parallel story-lines for each other.

If they make MS2, it'd probably exist many years in the future, after the black magician is defeated. (and obviously the story for MS1 is stopped after this happens)

I would like to see a graphics update for the game. The current graphics are starting to look kinda dated.

Major update will probably be some boss thats even tougher than PB, along with new training areas for the people grinding up to 250.

My money is on the new class being pirate based unless they are going to do something totally new (doubt it).
