How do they work?
I thought I understood it before, but today, I went to Pap expecting to die from the bombs but they never did. I strafe'd one and killed it without any effects. I messed up and pressed my normal attack button for another but it didn't buff up or anything and exploded, though that one was quite far. Then two bombs surrounded me and and I strafe'd the left one, it had an exploding animation but I didn't seem to have been hit or anything, and the rest seemed to have mysteriously disappeared. There should be a couple more situations but I can't really recall because I was a bit overwhelmed during the whole time. I believe I got hit by pap during one explosion so that makes sense, but was I really that lucky? I survived multiple explosions. I had to leave around this point because I ran out of pots.
Sorry that the description is pretty confusing but now you know how I felt during it.

So here's how it goes...
1 bomb has 10k HP.
Each bomb will explode if you are within range or if it has 5k HP or less. Top bombs will have a ringing noise associated with this. A bomb that's exploding will have glowing eyes for a brief moment.
A bomb will not explode if you reduce its HP to 0, unless the above happens. Bombs that die look like bombs that are exploding, but top bombs will not have a ringing noise.
You can jump over explosions if you have high jump, like say 20.
Bombs are strong vs. fire but weak vs. ice.

The bombs are quite simple. They're unsurvivable unless you have over 4060 HP. Their attacks range from 3600-just over 4000. Pap's summoning skill is red, so when you see it, get ready to move back. And they do have a certain range and spawn count. When he spawns enough on top, he can't spawn anymore, and they can't spawn outside a certain range. Now, as far as damage goes, you have to deal over 10k in a single attack for them to explode with no damage to you. If you do under, 2k I believe it is, they do not explode at all, and you must attack them again. If you do between 2k and 10k, they explode and do damage, depending on how close they are to you.
That's about it. There's really not much else to it. But, I must ask, do you have over 4k HP at level 100? Because there's no way you survived bomb explosions unless you do. You might get lucky with 3800-3900 with a REALLY low-end bomb explosion, but most of the time, they range around 4000. And all this is from personal, daily experience. I solo him twice everyday.

Thanks guys for clearing it up.
I only have 3472 hp and I'm actually level 119. I guess I just did enough damage to kill it without any damage to me. I'll remember to turn sound on next time and try to look for those signs. The only situation that's still confusing is the disappearing bombs, but that's probably just me not paying enough attention.
Kajiti, can you explain the process of jumping over them? I have plenty of jump from shoes + medal.

Jumping over bombs to avoid damage is not recommended. But basically you have to be out of their range by the time they would actually do the damage. (start jumping roughly when the explosion starts)
A better strategy is to stand really far away from pap (right edge of the middle platform) and run like crazy if he summons.

Ah, and then there's the SUICIDAL strategy.
Just look at them in the eyes. Then, proceed to RUN towards them, and get touch damage, and then, looking at them explode while you are immune. You'll need a good speed, though, and hope no other bombs blow up when you become hittable again..

Just let the top bombs keep spawning and kill all the bottom ones. Eventually, Pap will be using the summon animation, but nothing will spawn. It's risky because when the clock dies, the final form might not appear due to the maximum monster population (or so I've heard).

Maximum monster population in a map type of glitch hasn't happened in a while. I don't believe you need to worry about it, unless the parent monster spawns multiple offspring on death.

My turn! It's not a very complicated mechanic.
Bombs have 10k hp. There's a top and bottom one. BOTH are set of by character|monster range. One of them(called low star) that's on bottom is mobile while high star(top) is not. The bottom one can jump, which is plain stupid. It just sets off if your on the top platforms if it jumps close to you and you rdcueve no dmg. The middle right on is just another platform for low stars to jump on.
Dmg(low): 3.8k damage, but if you hit it without killing it or making it self destruct(basically a weak long range attack i.e. blast+, which incease his attack during destruct to 4.8k. This damage is only recieved by the given character|monster range.
Dmg(high): It basically is summoned and sits, annoying for NLs. It does not have an attack boost. Double edged though; it does 8k damage. They also do damage by character|monster range. This can be bothersome for warriors with less than 8k hp.
Both touch is about 1.8k, though u will barely get any. You WILL NOT lose damage if you deal all 10k hp before a self destruct.
And just an Easter egg, I jumped into the sphere sometimes, 8k damage, 6.7k w/ pg <3
Edit: And bombs have a max map capacity, so if your on the bottom, and keep the tops, it will eventually stop spawning.
Edit2: @ izzy; impossible, when pap dies, it decounts the first body allowing the 2nd to come, plus summoning mech doesn't allow it.

I can confirm that this is completely untrue. I solo pap twice daily and this never happens to me. The spawn is maxed out halfway through first form, and when it dies, second form appears every time.

And this too. When I duo this never happens, the mech will not allow it without a glitch.

Okay, forget what I said about the maximum monster population thing (I did say "or so I've heard.")
