Point out one distinctive detail in this image that makes this "anime" artstyle

Is this anime? It can also be used for below if you're strict.

In fact, my fair opinion, is that this is what makes anime SUCK. I've seen some examples work out well, like 20th Century Boys. But that's the artist, you know.

So, this is anime? Same body frame, different colors and hairstyles.

Fairly odd parents was supposed to be used for the bottom example and this for the top.

Top one, Is that the eyebrow? Not the eye, certainly.

Bottom one. Ah, below hair.

What, is it just one thing what makes it all?

Oh look, your picture has eyes. This one has, too.

 Is this anime?

If you add all the features together you get a unique image, so you'll have to stick with one at a time. The rules of the game says to point out a detail.

Fair play.

[SPOILER=Your image isn't anime, though, it's a muppet. It has blue hair.][Image: cookie1.jpg]

Not anime, it has a ribbon, so it has to be a present.

Not anime, it has round things, so it has to be a spirometer

Not anime, it has black, so it has to be a dude wearing a cheap Grim Reaper costume

[SPOILER=Not anime, it has red pen marks on the face, therefore, it's a kid.][Image: DSC_0007.jpg]

In fact, it's not drawn at all, I exposed all my proof, and it leads to that conclusion. It was a trap question.

The challenge is to prove that it's "anime" art style, not disprove it. Thanks though.

MU Life as a Teenage Robot did squiggly line blush as well. They also did "dead lifeless big eyes" before too. Is this anime?

*Cackle*

Thread is pointless. Different series have different styles. Different shows are made for different audiences. Not all anime has the same art style. There are certain similarities shared between some anime art styles, features that make people say "oh, that's not from the west" or whatever. Usually it's because of the fact that cartoons in the west are mostly aimed for children and supposed to look rather goofy, deranged, or possibly sloppy. Not a lot of work has to go into it. There are anime that look like western animation as well, those just go unnoticed because they're usually super kiddie shows, or there's nothing about them that would make them stand out to anyone.

Although the image itself isn't from an anime, it carries certain character design aspects. One of them being that the characters are a bit more detailed than western cartoons, without being extremely detailed (if that makes sense). They usually maintain a certain set of colors that are obviously different, but universally have a similar look to them. They carry proportions that are similar, yet not those of humans.

The anime style isn't "exclusive" to Japan. Chinese, Korean, and even some American animations follow the "anime-like" artstyle.

Here's an example of an anime that you probably wouldn't be able to tell where it was made from, had America produced more serious leveled animations and had the voices not been Japanese.

Again, because of the points I mentioned above, you're able to pin this as an anime. However, it doesn't carry that "anime art style" with it. If you think it does, it's only because you know it's an anime. Otherwise there's nothing in particular about it that would point it out as being an anime. I have quite a few series like this.

I have to say, some people are really ignorant and narrow minded here. Saying there aren't any series out there that would interest you is like saying there aren't any movies that will interest you. Most "movie haters" are just stubborn pricks who refuse to give any movie a chance and set themselves up to hate any movie they see. Anime is a form of media, not a genre. If you didn't like one series, or you don't like the series your friends recommend you, or the series that are popular, it doesn't mean you'd never find something you'd like. There's something out there that you'd enjoy, and if you liked one series there's most likely other series that are similar that you'd most likely enjoy as well, if you gave it a chance and simply didn't shut it down because it's anime.

Doing that is the same as hating something just because it's cool. Say you like something like Naruto, and you go to forums only to find everyone there HATES Naruto. So you immediately HATE your favorite series just because everyone else hates it. You purposely pick faults at it and force yourself to not enjoy it anymore. Pretty much the same thing. If you're going to close your mind to something, I'm in no way inclined to try to bring it to you. But this whole separation thing is stupid. This whole thread is stupid.

Edit: I wish there was a better Kaiba clip on youtube. I picked the only one I saw, and it doesn't really make much sense without the context of the scene. Oh well, the main point was to show its art style and show how different series can be. In fact, this scene in particular is a little reminiscent of Chowder's artstyle. Only a bit more dull in the coloring.

Chowders style is also very similar to the Count of Monte Cristo anime. All the fabrics and textures are static while the characters move and the camera moves. Its basically like cutting an outline of the character, and moving them along an textured area.

Right, that was actually an other anime I had in mind when thinking of a series that doesn't follow the "anime style". I'm actually surprised I found someone else who watched it, it was a pretty underrated series.

I was also thinking something along the lines of Mononoke, but Mononoke still has that "Japanese" feel to it even if it's not typical anime style.

Il admit, i havnt watched it yet. I first heard about the Count of Monte Cristo (the story) when i read the novel A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man. It was awesome how the Count story was worked into that book. I had also seen what i think was a movie of the anime at blockbuster when they carried anime more often. Last i saw, they had it available as the series on the PSN anime section, and was thinking about buying them. But, with a lack of funds, i might just torrent them.
