Nexon can do whatever they want. All they have to do is to make sure the cash you buy gets into your account. After it's there it is none of their business what happens to your account. They can ban it, delete it, or do anything else they feel like.

Nexon North America is by far the worst branch of Nexon's regional divisions. 1. COMMUNICATION: Nexon provides two methods of interaction with their customers. A message board system and, a 'ticket' based request system. The message boards are governed by two moderators (that actually speak). These two moderators enforce the rules of the board. However, they display a disturbing bias toward the rules they enforce and a situational application. These mods do not work weekends, so the boards are often filled with offensive porn (This site is primarily occupied by children). Nexon has shown zero signs of fixing this issue. Tickets are lodged one at a time. If multiple tickets are lodged, all are closed. Tickets will usually be closed without reply. There is no indicator, as to when they have answered or, closed your ticket, other than to check the site. This system is often bugged and server/page errors are a very common discovery when attempting to use this system. 1b. TECHNICAL SUPPORT: If your game doesn't work, there is a tech support forum. In a staggering display of unprofessionalism, these forums only supply help in the form of OTHER PLAYERS. No one from Nexon reads them and there is no professional help from Nexon to assist their own customers with Nexon's own malfunctioning software. They lay that responsibility on the players. 2. NEXON CASH: People may purchase NX Cash to further purchase virtual goods for use in their games. There is no refunds regardless of the reasons why. If the server crashes and your purchases are deleted, you will receive nothing. It takes seconds for a GM in most games to simply replace a missing item or go through logs to check validity. Nexon GM's just don't care. 3. SECURITY: Nexon's entire site was hacked by a 16 year old. Nexon is famous for two things. Maple Story and Hackers. Game Masters (officials, who enforce the rules in-game) have been known to share the same map as a hacker and ignore the hacking. GM's have been known to be friends with known hackers. When hackers are dealt with, any innocent player nearby is also banned without question. Even if they have no clue what hacking is or how to identify it. In fact, the security systems they use only hinder and punish legitimate players, the ones who work for their rewards the hard way. Hackers will just make a new account and hack themselves back to their former glory. Legit players have to start all over. ----Nexon America has only ever cared about one thing, money. Unlike many other game providers out there, who know the value of customer satisfaction, Nexon takes the low, exploitative road to income. Their primary demographic are children, who do not know any better. They know many children steal from their parents, to buy NX, so they enforce a strict no refunds policy. Private servers mainly exist, due to Nexon's terrible customer service. Many simply play to avoid a potential year's worth of work, being wasted because Nexon simply doesn't care enough to help them, if something goes wrong. Many want Game Masters who actually care enough to enforce the rules everyone agreed to. ---Nexon America can easily and simply, fix most of it's problems and still make a great profit (some might argue, a better profit) if the company wanted to. As it stands they are content to continue doing a minimal amount of work and abusing their own customers for as much profit as they can get. ---Nexon America, Inc. is a glaring insult to gaming, gamers and even Nexon itself. ---EDIT: Don't know how to format this post, sorry for the wall.

I have been a customer of Nexon of America for several years now, spending well over a hundred dollars on their games. I have to say that I have never experienced worse customer service from any company. Well documented glitches and flaws have remained in games for over a year and many have yet to be fixed; botting and hacking is rampant. I have reported over a dozen bots but not a single one has had ANY action taken against them and they are all active to this day. Glitching, hacking, and botting will not garner any meaningful response from Nexon. GMs rarely appear and even more rarely take action; the players are on their own in game, if they get hacked or a glitch wipes out their items they can expect no help from Nexon, I experienced this first hand when many of my items were randomly erased in a channel crash. I have also witnessed many people around me get hacked without receiving any aid from Nexon. I have rarely seen a maintenance or patch go through in the amount of time specified and I have experienced numerous server issues, many of which Nexon failed to respond to in any reasonable amount of time (over 24 hours). Often times I have seen their patches damage game play and require further patching to repair, which rarely ever goes through in a timely manner. Personally I have never gotten an appreciable response back for my complaints if any nor have I even met a single person in-game who has had a single positive thing to say about Nexon's customer service. They are the most cash grabbing company I have ever been a customer of. End of sentence. I tried it since it was advertised that NX cash would not give an advantage over non-cash paying customers but I found that unless you pay MORE than you would for a pay-to-play game, you will be at a distinct disadvantage at best. In the case of G1~G3 of Mabinogi, you would not even be capable of even leveling or playing the storyline. It denied what could only be described as essential services to non-paying customers. Take Dungeon Fighter Online as another more recent example, the prices for cash shop items revealed from PAX screenshots showed that they have or plan to increase the equivalent prices from the Korea release for services\items by 250%. While retooling game mechanics (and damaging gameplay in the process) to further necessitate buying NX cash items.

I have been their costumer since a few weeks after their first game, Maplestory, came out. I have been part of their "family" since. For years, Nexon America has been regarded as a bad gaming company. And every single year, I've seen people putting them down. Do they deserve all the put down? I believe they used to, say, between 2006 to around 2008. BUT. Around 2009, I have seen many changes. No negative ones--mostly, if not all, positive. It started off with Nexon shutting down private servers. Then, it led to decent to amazing patches for all of their games(even better ones are soon to come). True, they may make (human) mistakes ever now and then, but, do they fix their mistakes? Yes. Whether that took a day to fix to a year, they still fixed it. And unlike the previous years, they actually started listening to their customers a lot more now. Whether it's for better in-game fun or improvement, they listened. This ranged from a better hacking prevention system (I could not find a hacker for the longest time) to even allowing volunteer game masters to take part in helping along with the official Nexon employees in specifically hunting down in-game rule breakers. And now, they actually constantly put a tangible list of rule-breakers up for everybody to see, so everybody could feel safer in-game. My personal experience with this company has been quite the opposite of what other people have experienced. All (three) of my experience with their customer support has been a good one. My negative comment towards them though is the fact they have overlooked some glitches and typos in-game. Every single patch. Most of the time, they are pretty minor, and yet, it is enough to bother some people. But the fact is, Nexon is run by humans, but humans are just that: humans. We can't expect perfection from humans. Perfection is God's business, as Michael J. Fox said. As for excellence, Nexon's getting there, slowly but surely, one step at a time. This company within the last 12 months hasn't been a downer at all. They've constantly improved their games at an amazing rate this year. I hope they could keep it up! Oh, and by the way, I totally agree with what Danny15 said. :]

Nexon is one of the worst companies I have ever dealt with. I started playing Maplestory in 2005 on SEA, then switched over to global.

The GMs in the game never seem to do anything, I have never seen one. I have never met somebody who's seen one. And when I ask those people, they say that THEY haven't met anyone who has seen a GM either.

The support is really terrible. When you file a support ticket it is either never answered or answered very poorly in a month.

They never listen to what their customers beg them for in-game. People have constantly complained that they want better in game moderation so that the terrible (not small, but full of nasty people) in-game communities might be improved. In four years of BEGGING Nexon for that one little thing, they have never given it to us.

So then, people who are dissatisfied with the game code a new server from the ground up and make things they call "private servers". Nexon doesn't realize that the reason that there are Private Servers is because they are doing such a terrible job running THEIR servers. They don't say, "Okay, so they are making their own servers with custom settings... Why? Let's stop and think," they say "Oh no! They're making their own servers! We're losing money (we think) Let's sue them ALL!"
Nexon then runs around sending Cease and Decist letters willy-nilly and adding a paragraph to their Terms of Use:

"You agree that if you host or operate a private server of a Nexon game or host or operate a hack site that sells hacks to a Nexon game or if you distribute, disseminate, design, code, moderate and/or provide free or paid access to private forums that sell or distribute hacks, or assist in the design of any private servers or third party programs (such as hacks) that alter the game play of any Nexon game, you will have the unconditional obligation to pay Nexon America Inc. the sum of One Hundred Thousand ($100,000) Dollars for each such program (including patches) and versions thereof as liquidated damages. You also agree that if you use such a program to play any of the Nexon games, or engage in the use of a private server, you will have the unconditional obligation to pay Nexon America Inc. the sum of One Thousand ($1,000) Dollars as liquidated damages for each time you use such a program, which shall be due and payable immediately upon notification to you of said infraction."

Blizzard's WoW has tons of private servers and Blizzard is doing just fine.
Nexon doesn't realize that if they had provided better support, moderation and therefore community that Private Servers would never even have existed. They do not try to satisfy their former customer's wishes and provide better moderation and therefore a better community. They just sue Private Servers, where their former players are now enjoying the game.

If Nexon actually listened to their customers, this whole mess could have been avoided.

Ok, lets just start from the beginning.
I have been playing Nexon games since beta, yea, thats maybe 4 or 5 years?

It used to be MapleGlobal, or GMS (Global Maplestory), but the servers were split into Global Maplestory (GMS heh?) and Maplestory South East Asia (MapleSEA)

so... im doing a review in MapleGlobal's hoster: Nexon America

Anyways, their customer service IS good, but most users dont fully understand it. Fact is, most people who play Maplestory are... like... 10... and im being REALLY generous when i say 10... i mean like maybe most of them are 7 year olds lol... and im not kidding, noone... and i mean NOONE in my school plays maplestory except for the people in the lower school... meaning that im like an oddball o.o

Hackers are common in maplestory, as in ANY online game. The larger the community, the more hackers will be present. Mabinogi has no hackers, [although there are botters,] and Combat Arms has hacks which are patched in less than a month, usually. Like every online game, there are private hacks [an example would be private wallhacks in a majority of First Person Shooters, or Aimbots]

Heres one thing that people do NOT understand:
NEXON GIVES FREE GAMES -_-
Nexon's buisness model is to provide free games where users have the OPTION to customize their playing experience by paying money to get Nexon Cash(NX), which can be redeemed for in game items. The in game items do give advantages [in fact, most of the items are for appearance [ie: hairstyle, face in mabinogi, pets, clothing, feathers in mabinogi, colored guns in combat arms, etc], but the average user who does not pay does not have any "disadvantages," that is unless he goes unconcious whenever he sees a NORMAL gun.

The company does give patches frequently, and i mean FREQUENTLY. At least 1 patch per month, per game. Thats 5 patches per month, which is roughly one patch per 6 days.. thats pretty good... oh wait, thats awesome

The Forum community is VERY good, and there are many users on the forums willing to assist other players in issues ranging from in game quests, technical help [even for other games,] stuff like that, so the community is great, and it is also well moderated.

Most of the moderators "hide" behind the scenes, simply banning players without actually appearing in front of the other players in the area.

Many users have complained of Nexon NOT banning any players, since Wizet used to post monthly ban lists. Nexon recently posted a ban list from 4/14-4/19, where 3898 users were banned, an average of 650 bans per day.

I can say, today is the first time I have ever heard of this company. I had the unfortunate way of finding out when I received four email from PayPal saying that I had transfered money to this company, the emails were in Korean, I could only see Nexon America and the money amount. So I went to PayPal to find a zero balance, no surprise, it was empty before they got there, but there were four transfers from my bank account to PayPal with transfers from PayPal to Nexon America directly out. Four pairs of transactions in less than 10 minutes. I filed a complaint with PayPal and they blocked the company and said I will get my money back in about 10 days, so hopefully that will happen. So I would suggest to anyone thinking of using this company, don't because you don't even have to be a customer to get scammed.

I am a long time customer of this business, and I have to say allot of the reviews are incorrect. I have played all of Nexon America's games, though I only play MapleStory. My review is about MapleStory, not the other games that Nexon runs, though I've heard the quality there is about as good. First off, Nexon did not buy out Wizet, Wizet was a daughter company of Nexon to start with, founded to start Global Maple Story, the ironically named North American server of the game MapleStory, which by IP trace only allows North American, and Australian players on. There is no change of services between Wizet and Nexon, because they have always been one big family of companies. The service has always just sucked. They do ALLOT towards development of their in game cash shop, of which you have to pay real money to get the items. The security on the cash shop is top notch, there are no hackers to steal the items from it. That said, the rest of the game is a hacker's paradise... Every area of the game has a hacker. The AutoBan system works only for certain things of the game, of which hackers get around easily, and are then never dealt with... Some of us spend many many years playing the game, paying ALLOT of money to Nexon, and some teenage idiot hacker can come and pass up all of my hard work in a few days, and then sell the account on the internet. To their credit, recently the Nexon staff has responded to every complaint on thier 'Log-a-ticket' system for contacting the staff, though as far as I can tell, there is just one person running this system, and one person running the in game events. I rate them 2 stars, mainly for past quality. About a year and a half ago, they had GMs on every day, there were no hackers, and lots of events (as far as I can tell, every time a GM got bored, which was a good thing). This was a good time to play. Recent months, but way before the recent economic crisis, the anti hacker services are non existent, and barely there for direct complaints. I would not recommend doing business with this company if you expect anything more then dealing with a remarkably well build automated system for taking your money. Besides taking your money, this company is crap.

Well, I was a customer to Nexon America for a good two years, and now that I've had enough of their antics, I've decided to write a review.

Nexon's main moneymaker is an MMO called MapleStory(no space in between the words). It's started out fun, nifty little online game with its unique 2D platforming aspects. The game was created by a company called Wizet and Nexon has bought the rights to run the North American/Global server, as well as a good number of other servers. I'll focus on the American branch and problems with their management of the MapleStory content and North American/global server, rather than turn this into a game review or rant on Nexon Corporation.

The first gripe I have is with the constant lying/incompetence when it comes to updates. That is, whenever Nexon updates MapleStory content, they always lie about the approximate downtime. Now, I know a business can't be faulted when it comes to unforseen circumstances, but in the entire time they have been in charge of the global server, I have seen them finish on time ONCE. I'm not talking five minutes late either; each and every time they update(save that one time), they are late by at least a half hour, with major updates usually being two or more hours late(there have even been extreme cases where they were six or more hours late). When they are consistantly late, even on the "server checks," wouldn't it be an honest business move to be up front with the actual downtime, and round up, rather than down on their estimates? It really makes the company seem incompetent in the one area of their expertise.

Another gripe I have with the company is the fact that Nexon's customer service leaves much to be desired. In-game, they have hired Game Masters(referred to as GMs from here on), to basically serve as the in-game police and enforce rules(banning players who don't follow rules, such as hackers, scammers, and things of that sort). However, even with an autobanning system, hackers run rampant and I've honestly never seen or heard of any scammer banned for scamming. There was this one time when the company made claims that stated that the GMs would be more active, and more easily approached/contacted, and all around friendlier. A major crackdown ensued on hacker and to top it all off, they(the GMs) had fun events with the players. Two weeks later the friendly, approachable GMs were gone without a trace and it was business as usual. Also, Nexon once found a way to stop hackers from hacking, leaving the server hack free(though the hackers still ruled the economy with their ill-gotten gains). Then again, that was roughly a year ago and the problem resurfaced a few months later(and hasn't been addressed since).

The customer service at Nexon's official site is terrible as well. I've personally never gotten an answer back from my emails that wasn't an automated(I assume) response saying something along the lines of "Thank you for your input, bla, bla, etc" when all of my emails have been questions regarding their rules, compensation events(for when hacker to bad things to non-hacker, like the recent guild hack problem a couple of months ago). I've also had instances where I didn't get a reply at all. I've talked to other players about this, and while many have gotten actual answers, an equal amount have told me(sometimes the same people) they've also received the same automated responses and non-responses at one time or another, which leads me to believe that the support crew at Nexon America doesn't read very much of the support email they receive.

My final gripe involves Nexon America's management of the cash shop system. Basically, the Cash Shop is where you spend real life money for in-game items. Most of the items expire three months after you buy them, forcing players to buy the same items repeatedly. I find that to be a cheap profit grabbing tactic, but that's legitimate business decision, I suppose. That said, I find it very sleazy when they force players to use tickets that give you a random hairstyle in order to get certain specific hairstyles, only to randomly remove the hairstyles from the game without a word(thereby tricking players into paying tons of money for something they won't even be getting). Another gripe I have with the cash shop system relates to Nexon's habit of lying(which I've already mentioned). Initially, Nexon clearly stated they would NEVER release any cash shop content that would give player an unfair advantage over others, and they would be strictly cosmetic and convenience items(I would understand if they had only said this once, or eventually stated otherwise, but they repeately stated this). They eventually went back on their word when they introduced double experience cards, which allowed players to pay ten dollars to get stronger twice as fast during certain times for a week. This led to people throwing ~$50 a month to play king of the mountain until someone more willing to waste their time out-leveled them.

An even bigger contradiction arose when Nexon introduced the Gachapon system. With the Gachapon system, players could buy Gachapon tickets for a dollar each to a a random in-game item(basically playing the lottery for virtual junk). This led to overly eager folks spending hundreds of dollars to get powerful equpment you either couldn't get anywhere else, or would normally have incredible difficulty getting by normal means, and then selling said equipment to the other players for exorbitant prices. As you can imagine, this ruined the in-game economy(and it was already messed up to begin with due to the hackers), and even worse, this made it virtually impossible to keep up with paying customers on this "free game." Of course it surprised very few of us jaded players when Nexon eventually allowed people to pay real money(to Nexon) to buy items from other players, which shattered the already troubled in-game economy.

I can say honestly that Nexon is not responsible for any enjoyment I got out of their service. Any fun I had playing their global server I credit to the company that developed MapleStory, Wizet. The only things Nexon has ever given me are unfulfilled promises and letdowns. I play the Southeast Asia server(hosted by Asiasoft) full time now, via proxy server. I can honestly say that while they do have many of the same cash shop systems(sans the sleazy hair scams), and I do get lag due to the distance, they provide excellent service, are punctual with updates, and definitely provide a more enjoyable experience than Nexon America ever did.

Ok I spend money just for it to dissapier from 10 days to 90 days later. Money waisted for nothing. Like clothes you would love to keep because that has become your style. Poof! It's gone! Now go spend another $50 on getting the same things you just had. Nexon we do have bills. Patches and Server checks come at the worst times too. Hey I get to use my x2 exp tonight......nope! Server check through the whole thing! A night of your money gone.

The worst company ever...... No customer support or anything. You know what all they do when we contact them is give an automatic response never any action. Try all the patches they give always the same thing they say it'll end at 11:00 am Pst.First off they dont say "PST" they always say PDT They cant even correct this its been here forever. For expample the current patch got extended for over 4 hours......... Edit: The patch has been extended for 4 hours and 30 minutes. The patch will now conclude at 8:00 am PDT (4:00 pm GMT). We're sorry for the inconvenience. Its always the same freaken thing never anything diffrerent from nexon. Hacks, Scammers, Harrashments, just forget it nexon doesnt care crap about us....

Yea, one star....Are you surprised? Because you really shouldn't be. I'd give them lower but hey, they don't have an option for zero stars. So let me explain why I gave the 1-star that they don't even deserve.

I'm what you would call a 2-year veteran of this great game called Maple Story. Kinda strange for me to say it's a great game for such a lousy rating right? Well it is a great game, if it wasn't nexon that was running it that is. I have days where I half pray that Blizzard, the same guys that made World of Warcraft just take over this game and make it so much better. But that's neither here or there. A nice 2D sidescroller MMORPG with a simple interface. But let's going in the negatives and ladies and gentlemen, get the popcorn and soda, it's gonna be long one kiddos.

NX Cash -

Oh man, I have so many things to say on this, it's not even funny. Yeah, remember when they said the cash shop would not give an advantage to other players and would be purely cosmetic? Right, sure, what a lie that turned out to be. Nowadays, if you don't have NX cash, YOU CAN'T GET AHEAD IN THIS GAME, unless you hack, which is a different issue I'll go into later on. The Gachapon thing, where you buy the tickets and then you get the in-game items to sell off stuff, yea, what's that supposed to be? If that isn't an unfair advantage to those that can't get NX cash, I don't know what is. But wait! It doesn't end there! And then there were those double EXP and double Drop cards, purely cosmetic? I think not. And remember that scam with the hairstyles where players continued to attempt to get it, only to find that Nexon had secretely removed the hairstyles. But that wasn't the only hairstyle scam they pulled, remember the few weeks before they started releasing the Cash Cards? That hairstyle quest that everyone did messed up EVERYONE's hair and low and behold, guess what got released a week after! Cash Cards! Now, as much as I have to disparage Nexon for their actions, the MTS Buyers Market was pure genius. Buying in-game items directly using NX cash, it actually makes buying high-lvl weapons and equips POSSIBLE. But still, it was a violation of the TOS on their part.

Hackers/GM's -

To me I don't really see the difference, I see them both as the biggest scums of the game. I will say that there was a pretty hefty-crackdown on hackers and alot of them dissapeared, now you'd be hardpressed to FIND a hacker nowadays. Even then, nowadays you still have plenty of scammers to go around. You don't even have to look too hard, just go to Channel 1 in the Free Market and you'll see plenty of bots and scammers selling NX, meso generators and power levelers, even those selling accounts. So it begs this question: WHERE ARE THE GM'S? Well here's some cold hard facts ladies and gentlemen: Nexon doesn't care about you. They don't care about business ethics, and lastly what they DO care about is YOUR MONEY. While we're on the topic of GM's, I see alot of people that were legit that got banned anyway for things that they were falsely accused of. So to add ONTO that, the nexon staff at best, are a bunch of slow, mentally handicapped pondscum.

Game Consistancy and Practices with customer service -

What consistancy? What customer service? There is none! Their idea of customer service is an email system and they never ever get back to you. And if they do, you probably got banned. Now for gaming consistency, it must be said that GMS has been nerfed in comparison to their other MS regions. The long-awaited Showa Town would be the best example, swapping out guns and swords for ridiculous weapons and switching out the human gangsters for racoons. And the explanation for this? To prevent human vs human violence in game? Need I remind you that it's just a harmless game? Need I remind you that other games are much more gruesome, for example Grand Theft Auto 4? For chrissake in countries like Korea, Japan, in the EU, or Australia it's illegal to possess guns! This is AMERICA we're talking about! The only country in the entire world that actually has an amendment in the constitution that PROTECTS the right to bear arms! And they nerf Showa because why? We're not going to get the pirate class, why?

So all that can really be concluded of Nexon: I really hope someone takes some sort of action against them, not to put them out of business, but enough to make them shape up and actually respect their customers.

I give Nexon America 2 stars, because while it is a horrible company, at least they try at SOMETHING!

First, the negatives. Back in mid 2005, Wizet released the beta for a 2D side-scrolling MMORPG named MapleStory. In order to run the game, they required funding. A company named Nexon America provided means for funding through microtransctions within the game, known as then ans the Nexon Cash Shop. It allowed players to donate money to support the game, and in exchange there were able to purchace items which enhanced their character's apperance, or some gameplay features. During this time, Wizet stated that the Nexon Cash Shop would not provide the means to give any player an advantage in any way. It was purely cosmetic. In mid 2006, Nexon bought out Wizets half of the game, and changed the name Nexon cash to NX Cash. After this time, more and more "server checks" arose, and 50% of the time, they were extended by 1-2 hours, 49% of the time, they were extended as much as 6 hours more, while only .5% of the time were they ever finished early. Some of these server checks were to reduce lag, or make minor changes to certain errors, in fact one of them was to remove one channel from each world but one to reduce lag: It only increased it. But they also had server checks which did none of these. All he 5 hour server check did was add more items to the cash shop. After about 5 months of ownership, a new type of item arrived. The Gachapon ticket. It allowed the player to go to a gachapon stand in any town to potentially get valuable items. Within 3 months, another new item came out. The 2x Exp and 2x Drop card. These gave players an advantage to gain double the experience, or double the chance to get a rare item. This provided unfair advantages. When New Leaf City was put into the game, we were promised a great new place, just for us, with great places to train. Most of the maps are highly untrainable, and the monsters do not have a good Exp/Hp ratio. Sadly Nexon has always disappointed us, especially with the recent installation of Showa Town, where they cencored, but not very well, some of the new monsters and a tank on a map. Apparently a gang member with a gun or a baseball bat, and a tank are too violent to put in a Role Playing game based on combat. It is supposed to be about censoring human vs. human violence, so some of the gang member monsters turn into raccons when they die. They also never seem to have enough employees. There are NEVER any GM events in the game, and they don't have a team to answer emails and customer support tickest, it's all automated, and they never get anything right on the first try. Sadly...Nexon allways dissappoints.


The positives. Nexon does make attempts. Whenever hackers develope new ways to hack the game, Nexon patches it up within 2-5 months. They accutally made a new area by themselves, it wasnt just a localization of previously created maps and monsters, and they always attempt to make accurate translations that make sense, though they do make a few mistakes sometimes. This is really all i can say is good about them, other than they acctually took the time to congratulate the players that made level 200.

So as you can see, the negatives gravely outweight the positives. Nexon deserves the F they got, and i belive that Wizet should have kept managing maplestory, or that some other company would take over. A reliable one, not one like Nexon.

Multiple websites and companies have reviewed Nexon America and of course, got all F's. Nothing to be surprised by. This company doesn't even deserve to be in business. It doesn't have many GOOD updates with all the money it makes; being the largest 2D scrolling MMORPG in America. All they really care about, is your money. They take out hair styles where you have to waste way over two tickets on just to get one hair style and they didn't even inform their players about it!! Some people even used over $70 to get it until they realized, it was not there. I don't even know why they took them out for a while when there was no bugs with it. Probably with their horrible programming accidently took it out and never noticed it even though their players kept telling them that but they don't even listen to us because of their horrid customer service. They close your tickets the second you send them, give you an automated response, don't even answer your question, and won't even help you if you forgot your account info.

I give Nexon one star because of it's horrible customer service and inability to interact to it's players which make them millions of dollars. If you lose an account, they won't even speak to you if you aren't on that HACKED ACCOUNT. That right there is just stupid. They don't even care how much TIME AND MONEY you put into that account!! I lost an account that took a year to make and the person on it doesn't even do anything with it anymore, it's just sitting there. They always extend their patches and a lot of times take over ten hours!! Nexon America is absolutely the WORST Nexon Company compared to the other ones overseas. It is an EMBARRASSMENT. Nexon America even has stupid advertising that doesn't even make sense and the first time I saw it, I had absolutely no clue what the heck it was until I saw Nexon at the end of it. People probably won't even go to check out the website because you can't even tell it's a game!! All in all, it has the LOWEST AND WORST customer service in all of America!!

Beside poor customer service, lack of "real" responsibility of how their game run, let me add another issue of suspicious of alienating players that live oversea (for example Australia). Nexon has been promoting their "Nexon Game Card" and "MapleStory Trading Card Game" which only accessible in US/Canada area, i wouldn't be that unhappy if Nexon Game Card and MapleStory Trading Card Game (aka iTCG) gaves unfair advantage over those who are not able to access it. Famous in game trading system "MTS" can only be used IF the customer buys Nexon Game Card, OR sell in game item and hope for anyone else that find interest in the item... So far the solution for oversea players to access that will be buying them over the internet and on "non-Nexon site" which always present the risk of been scammed. Another thing is some of the "godly in-game equipment can only be obtained by the mean of Gachonpon (a sort of gamble in game, player have to buy ticket using NX to exchange for items; item can grade from extreme rubbish to gold rain from god). Their newest feature = Multi-pet requires the player to buy up to 3 pets (cost from $2 ~ $10+ each) for a "special good-for-looking-only effect". It seems Nexon concentrate on nx content rather than other areas such as improving player's experience and improving customer support. In the event which not relate to MapleStory, Nexon had refuse to allow players outside US/Canada to access one of their new game: Mabinogi. The exact reason is still unknown, however some other players (possibly nexon supporters) saying that Nexon Korean (or wherever this company from) refuse to let Nexon America to allow oversea players to access Mabinogi. Back to MapleStory and attempt to close this complain off, the final point is that MapleStory run by Nexon America uses the title: MapleStory - Global English Site, however in game content is heavily American base; where is the "Global" element except almost "all" countries can access to it? (European players are ip-banned because they got Europe MapleStory running now) They have plenty of room and possibility to improve and extend, however I personally doubt they actually willing to do so.

To be completely honest and not give the 1 rating to Nexon America, I will say this to explain the 2 stars rating that I gave: Nexon is bad, but it is improving.

As a 3-years dedicated player of MapleStory, Nexon’s biggest game, I have seen both the game and the player base community evolve during this time. Throughout the past one year, I have experienced both the good and the bad with this company – though I must say, the bad far outweighs the good.

For some time – about 6 months ago, a developer GameMaster (GM) - NXProse, actively responded on the Nexon official forums (forum.nexon.net) in his thread “Q&A with NXProse.” At that time, NXJoeW, the Nexon public representative GM, was also quite involved in the community – going to fan-based forums (http://www.sleepywood.net/forum) and IRC chat rooms there. Public relations regarding hacking and other issues were “OK” for a while, as things were addressed publicly (on the forums and with YouTube videos of lying hackers) and rather promptly. However, the Q&A with NXProse thread gradually turned into a thread of complaint and mistrust due to the lack of responses and the ambiguity in the few responses that NXProse did give throughout 100+ pages of the thread. As a result, that thread was locked, with a note from the forum moderator, -Hime-, saying that NXProse is too busy to answer questions. It has been over 4 months now, and that thread remains locked and dead.

While this is occurring, Nexon resorts to a ticketing system. There are several flaws to this, however. For one, while the players all used this ticketing system, Nexon failed to promptly address many common issues publicly, and as a result, there were massive tickets filed regarding the same issue – such as Power Guard hacking and guild hacking. Not only did this slow down their process of responding to more unique problems, their limit of players submitting only one ticket per account also prevented other problems to be reported at all while the current ticket remained opened – usually either stay unanswered or eventually answered with a seemingly automated response that does not satisfy the customer or addresses the issue directly 100%. Moreover, as a result of this system, players started to flood their forums with such concerns. I posted my concern and opinions regarding my issues (which I will describe below), and ended up getting permanently banned (technically not permanent, but until 2160) from the forums for “disrupting the forums.”

My most recent personal experience with this ticket system can be more or less described as waiting for a turn at the lottery ticket – of course, only to lose most of the time. More than 2 months ago (05 March 2008), I submitted a ticket (#00164080) regarding an in-game wedding glitch that my girlfriend and I have. First they told me to submit the ticket regarding this issue with her account, so we did. Then, ever since we submitted a ticket on my girlfriend’s account (#00166692), we got no reply at all for over 2 months! I ended up resubmitting a ticket on my own account (#00209244) regarding this issue (since my girlfriend couldn’t submit another ticket since she already had one open). I got a reply from them saying to comment on the ticket if we want a higher chance of response. The truth is that my girlfriend had already commented on her ticket – twice. This third time, after ticket #00209244, we finally got an actual GM reply comment on my girlfriend’s ticket (dated 14 May 2008), with the following:

We apologize for any confusion. Your issue has been submitted to the proper department and is still currently under investigation. Please be patient while this matter is resolved.

To this day, my girlfriend’s wedding glitch is still not resolved, and we are still not married in the game – after waiting for nearly 3 months now.

In addition to a lack of a satisfactory personal leveled player response, Nexon also failed to publicly address issues facing the larger player base as a whole. Two most recent issues come to mind, as mentioned before: Power Guard hacking and guild hacking.

In the Power Guard hacking incident, hackers overran the game and took over just about every high leveled training locations in the game. In just one day, the hackers were leveling to levels that would take the average player a year to level to. The servers were laggy, and the normal legitimate players could not train to level at all without kill stealing the hackers and being on the same map – a violation of Nexon’s TOS. After an entire week of absolutely no responses from the GMs to the forums and in-game, the game received a GameGuard update and along with that, a patch that eliminated the Power Guard hackers. No public announcement was made at all, and no compensation was given to these high leveled legit players (also the most dedicated Nexon Cash buyers) who could not actively play by the Nexon TOS. The hacking did stop and withdraw, and the player base calmed after a while.

However, then shortly followed the famous guild hacking incident where hackers were expelling every member of guilds including the guild master, rendering the guild being completely wasted and the name unusable. Again, instead of making a public announcement and shutting down the servers for 20 hours to fix this issue immediately like the Korean version of MapleStory (run by Nexon Korea) did with the identical hack, Nexon America leaves the issue unaddressed to the public and the servers running for 4 days while guilds got hacked in the hundreds. They did respond this time – after 4 days, saying that there will be compensations and that the issue was being looked into. Currently, after more than a month, the entire compensation still hasn’t been finalized. However, guild leaders did receive 10 million mesos for their guild (which for some, is only a small fraction of the cost of making and expanding their original guild), and guild points from the Guild Party Quest have been multiplied by 1.5 for new guilds created as a result of the guild hacking.

This month (May) brought the much anticipated Showa Town, except with a change (nerf, as more mature players call it) on the overall tone of the monsters and maps – eliminating any weapons (such as guns and swords) and replacing them with childish toys such as mallets. Along with that came a series of GM events, a GM blog, and an update post on the Nexon forums regarding status of guild hack compensation. However, there is still little to no actual personal GM interaction with the players - there is no way to personally contact a GM in game without spending money and using a Super Megaphone (which most of the time just go unanswered anyway).

So overall, Nexon America has been quite bad on the customer service and experience side in the past year, but it is improving – albeit this improvement happened much later and is going much slower than I had hoped - given their resources and revenues generated.

A company that started out ok, and went down the drain. Nexon eventually began to become over run with greed and hackers, and now their business practices are shadey. They treat their customers with contempt. If your Paypal account is found to be trying to refund Nexon cash, or an accident occurs with it, they will permanently ban your gaming account, even after you've purchased Nexon cash from them ( in game items using real life cash.)They will not speak to you after.

Their hacker problems in the game MapleStory are almost out of control, the company won't even bother updating their coding or Gameguard system. Hackers found hacking are usually ignored if the hackers themselves purchase Nexon Cash, are NOT permanently banned from game and are let off the hook. Nexon milks millions from its players each year, only to scam them out of certain nexon cash purchases.

For example, recently customers purchased cards known as "EXP cards" to gain a randomly obtainable hairstyle from in game barborshops. Nexon had secretly removed 4 available hairstyles from those shops, and customers spent a lot of Nexon cash to try to obtain these styles, only to find out later they didn't exist! Oops, apparently Nexon forgot to tell them--as players hardly ever know what's going on in this game.

Nexon is unable to protect their legit customers from hackers as well, as seen by a guild hacking incident. Players who spent Nexon cash and their own in-game cash to upgrade their guilds, only to have rogue hackers disband them with packet editing. Nexon's resposne to this problem was giving 10 million in game cash to players, despite the fact that most guilds cost 450 milllion or MORE. After this hacking continued.

Even players who buy the most amount of Nexon cash are treated as just another commodity.

As for customer service, account banned? having glitch problems? Player harrassment? Don't even bother telling them. Their form of customer service is an e-mail system. Players must log in their accounts on Nexon.net, to email Nexon about their concerns. Most tickets are closed or ignored, or sent automated messages and closed. Gms are larger inactive on the game and rarely uphold their own Terms of Service ( I.E. Banning hackers permanently, banning for harrassment ) but they sure as heck will ban you if your Paypal is found trying to refund their Nexon cash!

As a customer who has foolishly bought Nex, only to see this company go down the hole, I also was treated badly. In terms of guild compensation, Nexon lied to me, saying I didn't log a ticket about my guild in time, and times for compensating guilds are closed now. This is not true, as I have the actual ticket still logged there on the exact date in the closed tickets. Therefore, they are saying that I lied about this. I had spent nexon cash, and in game cash to build my guild, only to have a hacker ruin it, and NOT EVEN even receive Nexon's pathetic compensation.

A horrid company, start boycotting Nexon cash if you can until they decide to change their ways. Players spend hundreds of dollars on their services, the BBB really needs to look into this. This is a company running a huge game service, as this game caters to millions of players almost for Global Maple Story, yet they can't be a respectable company.

If there is one thing I learned over the years with Nexon, it's that the problem isn't at Nexon's side, it's the players. They have been dramaticly spoilled.

They are used to get so many things out of Nexon that they don't even notice those, but the little things- Minor bugs, extended patches, etc, and make a big deal out of those.

And let me tell you something, Nexon players play for Nexon for a really long term of time. Years sometimes, something you don't really see a lot in other companies where most people quit the games after a few weeks. Acclaim update most of their games once a few monthes, Gpotato update once every week with a cash shop item or two, and big ones come rarely, unlike us who get updates twice a month on Mabinogi, once a month on Maple, every 20 days on Audition, and every single week on KartRider. Nexon work constantly, they are a company, that is their job- give the customer good service. Just cause you don't get a written report of every move they do, doesn't mean they're sitting with their legs on the desk and drinking hot coffee all day long.

So please, dear friend, don't waste your and our time whining, if you don't like it, we don't have to show you the door.

I've been playing their main game maplestory and it has gotten ridiculous. I've bought their in-game money called "NX" and I've been unable to use it. People who hack the game in whatever form have been causing the game to lag. Due to this lagging it's near impossible to play thus making the things bought through them not able to use. Their policy is: "you bought it too bad" They've lost so many people over the last year from the unjust company practices and now another long time customer is going.

Ok. Nexon might not be such a spiffy company towards us, the customers, but if anyone finds this document shocking, grow up and study some business. You wont get ownership over a game company's pixels in any online game out there. What if they have to close down after 10 years? You expect them to pay you back everything you ever spent? Childish and naive... Also if you go against the rules you agreed to while signing up, why the hell should you have any bloody rights at all? To the wrongfully banned, yea its kinda shady, but its not like people get get permabanned by mistake often. A month ban while some NX clothes ticking away, that's not many dollars, 1/3 of what you paid for said items. I will agree they should extend expiry dates on items of people that get confirmed to be wrongfully sacked, but for the cheaters, abusers and e-thugs:

You work together with the devs and check every single bug in the system log for every single rev they put out. Basically, the overtime is to make sure that they didn't break something else while fixing something. For example, when I worked as one, I had a 72 hour work week during the final revs and they were putting out revs about 3 a day. Considering the bug list was over 14k, it took a lot of man-hours to get through it.

Not docking the job though, tis' a fun one after you loose the sense of game and adopt the concept of project.
