Mob Damage Distribution
#21
ZottenKerel Wrote:I think the real question is, does it matter? If you hit 2 obviously the total damage you do will be higher than just hitting one, apart from the fact that you can hit 2 with your lower-end range and 1 with ur higher-en range (making this the statistic exception). Hitting more=more dmg, shouldn't that be enough? For me that is, at least.

Well, we from SP want to compare all different characters, thus we need that data. Ahahah.

*scratches head*

I don't know if anyone actually responded, because all I see is a bunch of chat about warrior skills...

An Aran's mob damage is something around half of their single target damage. It doesn't decrease with each mob, but if there's two or more monsters that you're attacking, your damage significantly decreases compared to what you'd do to a single monster.

Where's Matt (TehMatt) when you need him? lol

I can't tell anymore because critical messes me up. I can see that mobs are less, but I could never give a good estimate because I see such a wide range of numbers I would have to be superhuman to notice any patterns or anything. I also don't remember the low levels because I try my hardest to not pay attention while training.

Fraps your damage on a flat map, crop it to show only you and the damage numbers, then upload it?
Post stats and skill levels, and let the math joars find patterns? Critical is predictable enough to 'undo'.

Perhaps, when I am in the mood. I am kind of taking an unofficial break from MS.

This is actually a pretty smart idea- it allows a class with no solo skills to still be a somewhat capable soloer. I think the criticals will help even out the damage a little, since it doesn't seem that crit boost is decreased each mob, in fact 12 mobs just makes crit 12x as good.
I'd like to know if people notice this with combo-requiring moves such as Combo Smash and Combo Peril. Then again, those are so powerful it barely matters. I just want to know if having a range of around 3.3k at level 70 is sufficient to 1 hit a 3+ mob of windraiders.
Only reason I don't like this is that it hurts mobbing abilities. I want to do 80k Final Swings to 12 mobs at a time. Goggleemoticon

I have a low-level Aran we could use, I think it's 2x.

If there's a math joar willing, I have a 55 Aran I could try it on.

It is probably better if I am not the one to test, anyways. Any mob I can hunt on a flat map is too weak, and critical will make things harder to figure things out.

I can try tonight on my 7x Aran.
The only skill I have, since I'm 70, is full swing.
I'll be at kents.

With Arans out in mSEA, has anyone got a chance to record some damage in mobs numbers?

And I happen to be one of these so called "math joars" Rolleyes

I will test this myself once they come out. Sounds interesting. Are we talking about with all their skills (including regular attack), or just a few specific ones?

EDIT:

OP had Normal/Double/Triple swing in mind. Not very familiar with 3rd and 4th job Aran skills. :/

Oh good, it won't even be hard to do then. Someone record the highest and lowest numbers you see on a single target and 3 targets and see what happens. Or I'll do it when we get Aran. The lower level you are, the better! Try it at level 5, if it even works then.

You'd have to wait till ~20ish, when your normal attack hits the max # of monsters it can. I say this because i assume the formula changes, but meh.

I'll test this tomorrow with a DEX Aran.

Spent about two minutes hitting scorpions. Most were 1 hits, although I don't know why I did that...

Range in Stat Window: 400~1107
Damage done to:

wDef of 40. I'm lv 56.

2 Mob dmg, hit 12 Mob dmg, hit 2

582445
519426
395513
599646
540430
604587
653612
678463
627586
553687
675449

When I crunched some numbers in Excel, I came out with an average of 51.2% of the Max possible, based on the range. I don't know how to add in wDef, but based on this small sample size I'd say the damage is split evenly between both mobs: If you average 5k to one, you'll average 2.5k to two.

Question. Did you only put the number in your list if you did a swing? An entirely different formula is used for stabs.
