Something I found out recently after getting to the second tier in PvP (lv 11+, which wraps back to 1 and changes the orb from blue to orange) -
Losing causes you to lose PvP experience. Lose enough and you drop ranks. Also, the second tier is primarily made up of level 30+ players, with a HEAVY amount of 35+. I got here at lv 25 and had an extremely difficult time doing much of anything, particularly against people that were able to combo my complete health bar away in one go (Exorcist with their "LOL I HIT YOU WAY INTO THE SKY THEN PLAY BASEBALL" attack, which also results in me being downed near a wall, which is then combo'd with the scythe throw, which locks me in place with its repeated hits, and leaves me open to a few choice finishing moves. Having only 23k PvP HP, taking a 9k hit from a single attack is...meh.) Anyways, just found it interesting that you lose experience from losing (not QUITE as much as you gain for winning).
If you make it to tier 2 PvP and are not at least level 30, I would heavily advise not fighting until you are a higher level - the gear difference is painful already, and throwing in some of the painful level 30/35 attacks doesn't help.
To emphasize my point - at level 24/25, I was able to win pretty consistently in PvP (probably 80-90% win rate) against similarly leveled people. I would occasionally fight a level 30+, but not have too much difficulty. Fighting a level 39 Exo in my first tier 2 match? Death. I can't wait to get Quantum Bomb to convince meleers to get away from me, and charged laser rifle to inflict the hurting.
