Teenage internships.

Alright, well I'm really tired of being on the computer from 3 PM to 6 AM every day. Literally...

My schedule is just school --> computer --> school --> computer. I really want to get my ass off this chair and do something productive (Although I do a lot of productive things on the computer). So I thought of maybe getting a workers permit at my school (Were allowed to at 15 and a half, so I'm almost there) plus my mom works for the district, so I kind have a hook up. I mean a job would get me some extra money as well, but most importantly get me to do something.

So I wanted to ask if anybody here if you're working at the age of 15-17 and any advice anybody may have towards getting a job at the age of 15-16. Prefer California citizens, cause I'm pretty sure the restrictions are different in other states/places.

Utah's labor laws are: You can work at age 15, but you can't work past 6PM once school starts. Then when you're 16, you can work whenever the pineapple you want.

Anyways. I've had a job since I was just barely 16. Been at the same place. It was seriously one of the greatest things that happened to me. It kicked the habit of being on the computer 24/7, gave me something new to do, opened up my social skills to what they are today, and it even HELPED my grades.

I say, by all means, go for it. Having a job is amazing.

I'm actually looking forward to next semester; I've been approved to do an internship at a Psychological Clinic. :3 That teacher is amazing and can find an internship ANYWHERE. I'm just going to miss writing for the school paper since the internship will fall under that class period. @_@

Well, I was interested in getting a job around the time school was ending. My sister had gotten hired at the rec center when it reopened after a remodeling the previous year, and had mentioned how they were looking to hire people for the outdoor snack bar. So, I went and got an application, applied, then two days later I got a phone call to go in for an interview. I was then hired.

I then worked my way up from the pitiful bottom...Outdoor snackbar to indoor snack bar to front desk cashier to front desk supervisor. LULZ.

Advice for a job: Be honest. Don't about anything. Srs. Honesty gets you FAR, even if it doesn't give you a quick result.

I don't know anything about California laws, but getting a job ANYWHERE at 15 y/o is going to be hella hard.

I took a look around and asked a few friends (Some of my sisters) and her boyfriend told me he could probably get me in retail. So we'll see how that unfolds. Don't want to get my hopes up too high haha.

you can't serve at a restaurant, but you can be a host.
you can't handle any kind of alcohol.
you can't sell 18+ year old stuff (porn, R movies, M games, cigarettes).
you can't so manual labor (construction and stuff like that).
you can't work past 12am.
you can't work at a bank.
you can't work at best buy, hooters, (and in my experience) target doesn't hire high school students...EVER

your best bet is to either work in a clothing store, a book store, fast food chain, grocery store, a movie theater, a host for a restaurant, a pet store, or a custom drink/desert place like starbucks/jamba juice and Baskin Robins/21 Choices

Well, the best buy is overflowed with employees. They do accept 16 year olds, but they're going to assign the older, more informed adults first.

With a drivers license, you can do Geek Squad over here too.
