Console war of 2010?

http://brightsideofnews.com/news/2009/10...phics.aspx

So right after releasing the PSPgo, Sony decides to up the ante and release the PSP2 in the near future. All those people who got the PSPgo just got steamrolled. Biggrin Overall, the news wasn't all that unexpected since there's already talk about a ds2. And with the continuous attack of ever powerful phones, handheld consoles may start to lose their market. The only problem I have is that with the sort of theoretical performance the PSP2 can do, they are basically trying to turn it into the handheld PS3 to keep/attract customers which might raise major questions about the battery life. Personally, I would rather use one of the older generations than use the new PSP even if it has amazing graphics and stuff but has a battery life of 1 hour. Rolleyes

Not necessarily console wars... Handheld wars sure.

The first console war should end before the next begins.

I can see the DS still having 5 or so more years on its belt.

The reason why they're releasing new hand helds such as the PSP2 and DS2 is to counter the next-generation of smart-phone which will have HD-tv capabilities among other things. What Sony and Nintendo feel is that the Iphone and it offsprings are siphoning their sales because their capabilities are pulling ahead of the handhelds. The DS probably could be used for a few more years while companies adjust to produce games that can take advantage of these upgrades. The handheld war is turning into a pc war at this point with Nintendo and Sony trying to 1-up each other while smart phones invade also. The downside is by putting a chip that has the performance equal/superior to a upper-tier GeForce 8 series graphics cards into the PSP2, you will probably pay about the price of a PS3 for the PSP2.Eek Personally, I wouldn't mind the DS getting better processing power so that the game can be as good as the cut scenes.

I think the battery life may be around what the 1st or 2nd psp phats were doing. My Zune HD has some impressive graphics and can play games and such, and with the wireless on all the time, the battery is about 3~4 hours while playing radio/music and a game that uses the accelerometer. Without wireless on, it almost doubles. So with a lil extra room to work with, Im sure the battery life shouldnt be much of an issue.

The real question is, what kind of size will it be.

Size will most likely be close to the original psp or thinner than the pspgo if thats even possible. I'm just shell-shocked over how far handhelds have come. They're basically cramming a Nividia Geforce 8600 into a small case and still have room left for the processor and battery and other things. Hopefully, battery life would be on the 5-8 hour range.

Well, they could go the ION route, where the GPU is also a regulaer processor. Not a bad concept, specially if Sony works with nVidia to bring them together properly.
