I haven't been playing Maple the past 2ish weeks

That spare time was taken up by me revisiting a game called Diablo: The Hell. It's a mod of Diablo and it's expansion Hellfire, where the people did a serious revamp of the game. Good god, I can't believe how challenging it is. I stopped last time because starting up collecting better equipment and even getting enough gold to sustain my potion needs was a pain.

Anyone remember The Butcher?

Ah yes, I remembered beating that guy with a level 8 warrior in the original Diablo.

I tried that again in this mod playing a Gladiator (like the warrior, but is more styled to be really tough without a shield and can use two one-handed weapons). I got slaughtered in 1 hit, and noticed he had over 9000 HP. Man, I even came back to this guy at level 15 with better equipment, and I still couldn't hit him fast enough since he cleaves faster than I could. Even King Leoric was buffed up, because he had 10,500 HP and I barely put a dent in his HP before I ran out of healing potions and died.

I ventured all the way to Diablo and had to be level 25 (almost 400 HP, over 100 armor, 85% resistance to EVERYTHING, -20 damage reduction from enemies per hit) to even stand a chance against his 11,000 HP and 6-7 mages blasting me with Fireballs and Lightning.

The game is unbelievably challenging from the old Diablo game. The Hell is basically the Battletoads of the game because you can't just kill things and be done with it. I constantly switch between my cleaving axe and sniping bow to combat different enemies types. I even needed to change equipment depending on the situation until I got better equipment that I don't need to change my stuff so often (resistance equipment VS ranged damage reduction equipment VS high armor/stats equipment). Even for a mage, every single enemy is immune to at least one type of magic; that means you better have a Fire/Lightning/Magic/Holy spell ready at all times to combat the immunities. It's challenging, yet it's fun once you really get into playing. I started a new game for my Gladiator 4 times already before I even stood a chance against Diablo. Yet, I didn't get bored despite playing for a good 20-24 hours total just on the easiest difficulty.

There are 3 difficulties: Horror/Purgatory/Doom. I've yet to attempt Purgatory mode until I get to level 30, and I shall not even dare Doom until I have almost 1,000 HP.

Oh fun stuff for anyone who is into the classics. Single player is great. I can bet multiplayer is even more fun

Following screenshots were taken from the site since I didn't take any screenies myself.

This is what happens when you try to run headfirst into any area without first clearing the enemies in front of you first.

The Gladiator class dual wielding.

They even got graphics from Diablo 2 in here. It's crazy how dedicated the people were to adding new things to an old game.

Good god mate, I can only begin to dream getting equipment of this tier.

This looks fun as hell

Lazarus was a pain to kill, but satisfying.

Oh so many unique monsters like these. Every floor I can expect a good 3-4 of them. I have yet to encounter the same unique monster twice in the 5 times I played/restarted the game.

Custom made classes.

Paladin = Shield based warrior
Gladiator = Dual wielding/resiliant warrior
Scout = Rogue of the old game
Mage = Sorcerer
Monk = DEX based warrior who fights with staves and has a touch of magic
Assassin = Hybrid of the Gladiator's dual wielding fighting style and the sorcerer's magic capacity. They weaken the enemy with magic, and then rush in for the kill using two swords (usually). Obviously as a hybrid the Assassin can never achieve the potential of a pure warrior or a pure mage class (instead of 1-2 weak areas, the Assassin has average stats everywhere).

Thought I'd share my thoughts on a really wicked mod of an old school game that temporarily took my spare time away from Maple since it is that fun (at least until midterms are over; it's either spend spare time on Maple, or Diablo: The Hell since I don't have enough time for both).

I decided to revisit the original Diablo about a month ago for fun. It was fun when I played it when I was like 10, but I could not get back into it. I downloaded it, installed it, started going down the dungeon, got to level 2, and died. I just gave up right there. You don't regenerate naturally, potions drop infrequently, your character walks around really clumsily and there are no movement skills, and I couldn't figure out for the life of me where that poison spring was. As much as I love classics, this isn't for me. I'll stick to D2.

I gave away my D2 and LoD to my cousin because he kept getting banned for silly reasons. He was crazy enough in the game that he can freaking tell just by looking at a piece of equipment if it's fake for not. That detracted me from LoD since it eventually becomes nothing more than a mad attempt to find items that barely have a 0.10% chance of dropping when you kill a boss, even with the best Magic Find equipment possible. MF games for excruciatingly rare equipment and dueling with cheaters isn't for me. Drop rates are even worse than in Maple. Goggleemoticon

Even if you trade for the item instead, you can't tell if an item is duped or not. If it's duped, expect to say goodbye to that item in a few days, in which your trade meant nothing and you got suckered. Even if you asked for an unidentified version of the equipment, it only reduces the odds that it's fake. It doesn't guarantee it's real.

Duelists, oh man the duelists. Those people are plain freaks. No way I can even attempt to catch up to their level of insane gear.

Oh, see, I can't take any game that seriously. All I did on D2 was PvE until I could beat it on Hell. Then I got bored.

D2, and especially LoD, was serious fucking business. You can't just play casually. You either play hardcore, or quit. The game didn't end at Hell once you can beat it; it started at Hell once you can beat it.
