SAT scores

I took mine in 7th grade...might have to take it again next year.

Math: 630
Reading: 430
Writing: 490

Total: 1520/2400

Now, I think I should get an 800 in math and probably a 600ish in reading and writing =/.

High five for 7th grade SAT takers?
(not that it's really anything to take pride in... but anyway)

I got like 10 minutes on the writing part because my proctor's watch was screwed up.

I got 240 on the PSAT, though, so I'm happy.

It seems like everyone's scores go up as the thread gets longer. Very lulzy.

1790 w/ all. Then again, I got into where I wanted to go. o.o

I loved the ACT. Took it once, got a 34. ACT also doesn't have stupid 20 minute sections, and just gives you 5 one hour sections.

I dreamt last night that I took the ACT and aced it.

well, ive yet to run into any troubles with anything over not having taken it. im in community college, and my career path isnt truly dependent on my ability to take a standardized tests.

I'm not saying don't take it. You have to take it. It's the mentality of people who discuss their scores that bothers me.

Exactly, the intention wasn't to make anyone feel good/bad, I was just curious where Southperrians tended to score.

Lol I didn't do too great on mine...I only took it once, though.

I'm also a believer that standardized tests only measure how well you do on standardized tests, though I don't know if that discussion belongs here.

My mom wouldn't let me take it again to try and get a 2400, so I had to watch some friends of mine get front page of the newspaper for getting 1600s and I got nothing.


I think I got a 1280 in 7th grade, on the old school SAT (with analogies! *GASP*). Sad thing is, that would've been good enough to get me in to the school I now attend, if the score hadn't expired. Yay for lowering your standards due to being poor.

And going back to the beginning of my post... I get good scores on all standardized, multiple-choice or short essay tests. I took 12 AP tests and got all 5s (now, I studied my ASS OFF on a lot of those, mind you), and I took 3 SAT subject tests and got 780, 790, and 800 (Math II, Chem, and Bio). I was a National Merit Scholar. At some point, I just learned how to "read" multiple choice and narrow it down to two answers without even knowing anything about the question. Everything is made by the College Board, and they always write the same sorts of questions.

I know lots of people worlds smarter than me who got worse scores because they are ESL or just aren't good under pressure.

It really doesn't matter once you start getting to the second two years of undergrad, getting a job, or going to grad school. It's all long-answer questions and it tests more of what you know, not your "reasoning skills". And a lot of what gets you far isn't a test situation at all... You get much farther ahead for internships, research, and long-term projects like that. It's closer to the way the real world works.

For memorization, I simply am not able to memorize something long term without repeating it to the point that it loses meaning anyway. These generally lead to my essays trailing off into random subjects towards the end as my mind goes too far ahead of me.[/COLOR]

I had a combination of laziness and trailing thoughts the first time I did the writing section on the SAT. I ended up getting a 540 on that section that time D: I always felt the SAT was a large part luck though, simply because you have to be lucky enough to know the words on the reading part, and that you get a decent enough writing topic (my first one was horrible, the second was mildly tolerable) and a good scorer.

says who? i dont feel i should have to pay to take some test that tests my ability to use logic and reasoning when i can do so just as well without taking it.

sorry, but i just dont see a purpose for it.
