racist jokes = racist ?
#21
Maybe Dean didn't explain the extend of racism here in Singapore. It's almost a part of life, you hear racist jokes almost all the time. It's gone to such an extent that people don't take them seriously anymore. It's like you keep saying a certain word until it just makes no sense to you.

Absolutely. It doesn't make you malicious or anything but if you didn't believe the punchline to be true you wouldn't think it's funny.

Ah, Stereo posted a perfect example of this:

Stereo Wrote:[color=#a000e0]I've never really heard a racist joke that made me laugh... I dunno, maybe i'm just missing something there.

He doesn't think they're funny because he doesn't believe in the racist stereotypes (presumably)

Quantact Wrote:Here's the tricky part -- what if this so-called "racism" stems from a black gang beating the pomegranate out of you every day for 4 years? My professor's son was like that. So naturally, he grew up and IS constantly going around saying he hates black people. He has reason to do so.

Racism is not always a unprovoked, ingrained thing. Not everybody is like the KKK. There's a lot of bad black people, and not only do they act bad themselves, they ostracize black people that made something of themselves as "oreos" and such. Work and education are "bad" things for such people, but they do commit fraud and crime because that is "not bad." I don't think that many people have problems with some black lawyer or doctor, or some woman like Oprah, they have problems with the general black culture, which exists in the gutter, and through its tangled web of hypocrisy, criminal behavior and victim complex will keep itself in the gutter for at least the next couple hundred years.
I'm assuming he's talking about the shitty black people right?

What's tricky about it? Hate the gang behaviour. People in groups do stupid things, black white or brown. Mob mentality is never a good way to judge people as a group.

Racist + Jokes =? Racist

Racist + Jokes = Racist
Jokes = Racist - Racist
Jokes = 0

Racist + 0 = Racist
Racist = Racist

Every single person on the planet falls into the definition of being racist in some way shape or form in the eyes of someone else.

I was always taught you either laugh at any joke or you laugh at none. I can easily say anyone who dissagrees' with that is racist towards something I believe in.

The term is thrown around far too much that it is losing its meaning. It still exists, but unless its something serious then noone but the chronic people who arnt happy unless the worlds going to ruins will complain.

You probably think it's losing meaning because you don't know what it is, based on the fact that you think someone disagreeing with your "belief" is racist. A race isn't something you can choose (well... michael jackson did it...), a belief is.

But seriously RACIST AGAINST MY BELIEFS.

And I present Exibit A.

I'm a Torres Straight Islander, what I said wasnt my belief alone but that of the whole community of T.S.I I live with, we're all brought up like that.
Basically your last comment just called the entire community I live with idiots, which is exactly whats you've argue'd previously as being a racist thing to do.

More like a whole bunch of incidents happening to a person courtesy of blag thugs and playas, and then he deosnt' like them any more. You can say they're stereotyping, or you can say that he's dealt with enough negativity by blacks that he no longer cares to find any decent people in that group; he just avoids it altogether.

Hahahahaha I hope you're trolling.

If your entire community believes something wrong then it wouldn't be illogical to call them idiots, but I'm not. It wouldn't be racist to call them that, either. I think you should do some research on what racism is.

If it's black people beatng you up cause you're white, you will not take political correctness seriously.

Belief was a poor choice of wording for that i'll admit.

I know full well what Racism is as being the one of only 7 'tanned' skinned kids in a high school of 814 kids who have probably only seen people of my race being dragged off by the cops or going into a rehab centre or have overheard their parents talking about bad rumors and such , I get subjected to racist taunts and acts quite alot. The current craze being to refer to us as 'pedie sniffers'.

Im seriously Torres Straight Islander..

"You either laugh at any joke or you laugh at none."
Is a tradition (for lack of a more accurate, befitting word to please lil miss perfectionist) that the whole community I live in has been brought up on.

Someone else being wrong does not give you the right to be wrong in return. The only way to get rid of racism is to be absolutely tolerant, there is no exception for "people who deserve to be racist".

@ Loki could you please please please find out what racism means... disagreeing with someone's belief's does not make you racist. Not even if a million other people believe the same thing.

Depends on how it's said. My friends and me all get along well, we make racist-jokes all the time, example:

Andrew (white guy): Your little Asian body can't handle that much amount of alcohol..
Me (Asian guy): Well, excuse me if I'm not fat like you white assholes, I don't eat McDonald's every day, ya know?
Andrew: Get the f*ck out of here with your chicken fried rice!
Me: No, you.
Andrew: You!

And it goes back and forth, and we all just laugh about it after... Because we're friends and weird like that, but point being, my friends CAN make racist-jokes about it, I just laugh at it. -shrugs- I think it's funny, because it's usually true! haha. I make jokes about them too, or about jokes with black people, but we just laugh it off. No one really gets offended. :| But we don't pull this kinda crap in public, only in dorms, apartments, or inside our houses, since we don't want random people to think we're racist, because not everyone will 'understand' an inside-joke..

You have to first find the difference with stereotypical jokes, racial-profiling jokes and racism, theres no such thing as a racist joke, only being racist.

Well, since black people are racist towards white people, (and they positively revel in teh fact that they are "allowed" to be that way,) maybe you should tell that to them. Blacks say racist things about whites in broad daylight, and so do black entertainers, (Dave Chapelle, Chris Rock, etc.) The tolerance you speak of is only expected of the white people. The black people, who demand said tolerance, are not tolerant at all. I really cannot remember how many times blacks have said something like "too many white people around" within an earshot of me. If I say anything but "yes sir, thank you, sir," i am a "racist."

I don't think that's true, and I've never heard someone muttering about "fewer white people". Then again, most of the people I talk to are intelligent and above that sort of stupid comments.

And I don't think Dave Chapelle's jokes are really racist, they might be playing with racial expectations but he's making fun of the attitudes, not the people. A black person making fun of a white person isn't automatically making a racist joke, and if that's how you see it then I guess we just disagree.
