Crusher with a polearm

ninja'd by Joe

The 5/3 thing assumes you're pure STR, for simplicity's sake. So if you are pure STR (meaning 0 DEX, somehow), it'll be completely accurate. Most chars have enough STR compared to DEX that it'll get a reasonable estimate. But if you're really high DEX, it won't work that way.

EmuAlert Wrote:@ Stereo: so, more roughly, it takes the top 3/5 and bottom 3/5 of your range?
No.

Not at all, actually. You can definitely get exact results by using the damage formula, which has long been known (the one I've posted above, and Dusk used in his calculations). It's the issue of conveniently estimating from a given damage range that's being discussed, which in most reasonable cases works using Joe's 5/3 rule. You can contrive a situation to throw it off, but it's a moot point anyway because it's not supposed to be 100% accurate. Just handy and relatively easy to do.

Sorry. I figured that if the formula was known, either this thread wouldn't exist or someone would have posted it in the first couple of comments, so I didn't bother to look at the calculations hard enough to notice the 3 vs 5 STR multiplier difference.

common sense, so rare that its a SUPER POWER. -_-

bread, no offense, but its kinda common sense that PA fury does more damage than PA crusher, and conversely the same is true with the flip of skill names using the spear, in that crusher outdamages fury. spears do more damage stabbing, PA's do more swinging; there is no damage boost, unless you use an apple, cider, have a KoC, use any other attk pot, have SE active, or hack.

the day i, a 9x dk, use PA fury and hit over 9k (not intended to be a meme post, im dead serious; at max i hit ~7/8k per fury with a 12 attk nlc pot), is the day president nixon walks in front of the kremlin and farts a rainbow.

Only takes a base range around 3600 on Snails... if we had the new Cygnus Blessing, my 94 DK could be hitting 9400s with Warrior Elixirs and 9900 with Ciders. Level to 95 and the str increase would be enough to break 10k, let alone finding a decent Red Surfboard. As it stands, with 0 blessing I can do 9200 with Cider.

The only possible use of PA Crusher I've managed to think of is that since it hits 3 times, you roll the dice 3 times on accuracy. Less likely to miss completely. Now I just need to find where that would be useful...

That doesn't really matter. No matter if it hits 1000 times or once, you're gonna be attacking enough that it all averages out to be nearly the same.

Again, it was more for my convenience to have something to refer to whenever I hear the "boost" nonsense (which is more often than you'd think, ESPECIALLY by non-DrKs, who may not know much about swing/stab).

The fact of them doing more or less damage isn't what I was doing here - I was attempting to get a quick estimate of what I could hit (or DrKs with similar ranges) and how that fits with my damage range. I still am really disgusted at how much potential attacking power is wasted by the ratio - a less painful multiplier (say, 4 instead of 3) would still give reason to use a good weapon but would allow the opposing (slashspear/stabpa) to be more useful. For me, Crusher is useful as a finisher when Fury would require 2 hits but Crusher 1 (happens occasionally) and has had some use as a very stable attack that doesn't hurt me (Sacrifice doing anything over 40k hurts is pretty dangerous).
