USB removal cause blue screen?
#1
Well I dont have a printer for my laptop because the computer downstairs has a printer that works just fine. So I finished my homework today and put my falsh drive in to save it os i can port it over. Well when I put it in Windows detected a problem witht he flash drive and it supposedly fixed it. After saving it and everything I clicked the icon at the bottom to remove the USB and the computer shut down showing me a blue screen. I reboot and my computer is running fine and I have deduced that the USB is causing a problem on my computer, but it works normally on the XP computer(I have Vista). Any explanation for this?

EDIT-I am just curious if that specific USB port is bad or my flash drive is bad or whatever. My flash drive has had a virus before that has made it unreadable so i had to wipe it but im afraid to keep testing this because blue screen scares the living pomegranate out of me.

[COLOR="Red"]Ez fix:

1. Leave the USB drive in until you're ready to shut off the computer.
2. Take it out when the computer's fully shut off.

1. Does it happen again if you do it again? If not, eh, one time thing. If so...

2. Does it happen with different USB drives?

It happened twice and I only have one USB drive the other would be my mouse but i have no problem unplugging/replugging it to my knowledge.

EDIT-Just removed my Mouse USB from a different port and I just got the Blue Screen and auto restart.......Debating if i should justship this back to Dell because it is so frustrating I can't use any USBs

I have expr. the same thing with Sony Vaio vgn-sr390:

1- go into safe mode,
2- go to your control panel,
3- Add/remove programs.
4- show all the Microsoft updates files,
5- remove (uninstall) all the MS that ends with 879. You can search for *879 in your programs list.

Good luck.

Ya i called Dell and it was a problem with that update from microsoft which caused a compatibility problem on intel machines. If you go to microsoft.com and type in 973879 in the search bar you can check and see if they have rectified the problem.

Just to update, Microsoft has applied an update for this problem. The resolution can either be auto applied or manually. View article 973879 in the Microsoft Support database for more information
