My dad is a nosey fucker. Came down from taking a shower, and see him browsing through my phone. Soon as I show up he puts it down, so he knows I don't want him doing it.
I can deal with him knowing who I call and when as he pays for the service, but he has no right to know WHAT my Text messages say. <_<
Anyway, I want to password protect my phone to keep him out, since I tend to leave my phone laying around on my desk when I'm home.
Can I do this? It's just a regular flip phone by Nokia. AT&T's on the front too....

There should be a way. Refer to your phone's instruction manual.

I'm assuming you're anti-Patriot Act? There should be a way, anyways.

Just put on a phone lock. It'll be as annoying as heck to unlock it EVERY time you open your phone, but it'll get the job done.

Same thing would happen to me. I grew into this nasty habit of having and knowing where my phone is at all times. If you have a Windows Mobile or a Verizon phone, I know there's an option to lock it.

You can SIM lock (password protect) pretty much every AT&T phone. There's a catch though; it only allows a certain number of tries (3 or 10; can't remember) before it locks you out. Then you have to call AT&T for a code to punch in. If you mess that up a certain number of times (10, I believe), your SIM card fries itself and you end up having to go to a AT&T store for a replacement (free at AT&T stores; not free at retailers). Unless they've changed the system in the past year, that is.
You can SIM lock it - just be careful.

Use a physical lock, it's the safest and most secure way (that applies to computers too).

I don't know about non-iPhone phones, but if you guess wrong it locks you out for like 10 min, then an hour, and i dunno what after that.

I switched from Verizon to AT&T 3 years ago and SIM locked my phone, thinking that, like Verizon, you can test an unlimited number of codes (Verizon doesn't utilize SIM cards and I facepalmed). I fried my SIM and got a new one. Lol.

This. For me personally, I find opening my phone without a password very convenient and constantly do so to check things, so having to type a password each time would annoy the hell outta me.
I think the best solution would probably to just be careful where you put your phone...I mean, if you're like me and find it a hassle to type a password each time, then putting your phone in a safer place would probably be less work. I personally carry my phone with me everywhere, even at home (as people dont call my house phone) so I dont have this problem, lol.

Keep it in a locked drawer when you don't have it with you. You can put a hole in the back so you can charge it in there. It will probably keep your dad out. I recommend a combination lock; with a key lock, you can lose the key, and then you're pineappled.

[COLOR="Red"]My Blackberry Storm has this little dot thing where you have to trace a path through 9 dots in the pattern you make to unlock it.
Kinda doubt your phone has this, but just keep it with you or erase messages when you think he might look through it.

Usually you go to settings>phone settings>security and it should be in there. Default is usually the last 4 of your phone number then you can change it I do believe.
