I Give You, The PS3 Slim!

They're supposidly working on a firmware update that'll emulate the eMOTION engine that is in the PS2.

I swear though, that's one huge thing that pineappleed Sony up - how can you NOT include backwards compatibility for PlayStation 2 games in MOST of your systems? I mean, even the ones that HAD the eMOTION engine sucked - I bought a 60gig when lolMGS4 came out, and was playing Fatal Frame 3... and there were so many FPS skips, and glitchy graphics. Half of the doors in the game were either transparent, or had something oddly wrong with them.

Either way - I have a PS3 and can say that there isn't a vast amount of games worth buying, that you couldn't just buy on 360 (which I perfer to do anyway). Though, Little Big Planet is pretty fun.

It's not a diss. It is the truth. If the PS3 really was the superior console Sony wouldn't have lost millions in profits because of it. Oh yeah, Xbox 360 and Wii both fail, despite having twice the sales the PS3 ever had. Also,

no gæmz

and FAIL @ Blaine for not detecting Opeth's sarcasm/trolling.

oh sony fanbois.

 List of PS3 Games

That's more than enough to keep you busy for a while. Rock Band and Guitar Hero have over seven thousand songs total for download. If you can't fucking entertain yourself with that, it has an internet explorer, some viral things going around for fun, you can look at what looks like a map of Earth at night, with the "lights" being PS3's that are on. You can couple it into being a computer as well.

Xbox = halohalohalo.

Wow, how long did it take you to compile that giant list of half-decent PS3 games? More than half of these games aren't even released yet, but that's okay; if I had asked you to list some good PS3 exclusives that are already out, that just wouldn't be fair towards you Sony fanboys. Final Fantasy sucks now and MAG? More like LAG.

I would put Gran Turismo 5, but that's been in development for like six years now. GG Polyphony Digital.

There isn't a single game on that list that could make be buy a PS3 except God of War 3. Final Fantasy 14, last time I checked could also be hitting Xbox 360. We stole 13, we'll steal 14. Kingdom Hearts 3 is so far down the road, and there's no saying which console it'll come out for but I'll bet money that we'll get it over on the 360. MAG doesn't appeal to me. And I bet we could run it on the Xbox. We run several other games better than the PS3. A high budget one being Resident Evil 5.

For people saying the PS3 sucks, it doesn't. They both have their ups and downs. But currently, the Xbox 360 has more going for it. It's not just a game console. It's a home media center.

That's extremely unlikely.

Anyway, my list so far is... Valkyria Chronicles, Disgaea 3, LBP, Arkham Asylum, BlazBlue... maybe SF4, and some others I can't remember... >.>

Why not? We're already getting the next Metal Gear Solid on the 360; they might as well just give us the rest of their three (3) exclusives.

Of course you could, all that it does is only process the players that are within a certain distance from you, guess what, the ps3 wouldn't be able to handle 256 people all at once, and EVEN if it could, your modem/router would not. It's a fairly simple trick, you don't need to knowwhat someone on the opposite side of the map is equipped with, or where they are aiming, which can cut down significantly on the amount of data it needs to sned through each machine. I guarentee if you got all 256 people in a single small confined space in the game, it'd be murder on the frame rate.

the reason no-one else has tried this before is because 256 players is a completely redundant feature, Are you going to notice the difference in how many people you're playing against from 100 to 250? I seriously doubt it, esp if the space you have to play in is adjusted accordingly. fanboys are funny.

No it's not. We stole Grand Theft Auto 4, we stole Final Fantasy 13, and we stole the next Metal Gear Solid game. It's safe to say we're gonna be getting Kingdom Hearts 3 because it's not developed or published by Sony in any way.

You're getting FF13, I kind of doubt you'll get 14, I highly doubt you'll get KH3, and sorry for any RE fanboys, but RE5 kind of sucked for me. It felt exactly like RE4...same control scheme, annoying "partners", cramped boss battles, etc.. :f6:

MAG sounds like fun...but I just don't think the cooperation needed to win would be even feasible on either console. You have 12 year old whiners on the 360 calling you "Stupid onions" (<-- True. >_> Happened on CoD4 to me.) or you have lethargic idiots on the PS3 that don't know which end of the gun to place in their hands.

And...@Greg, enjoy your 90 minute long cut-scenes. I hated them in MGS4.

In terms of potential, PS3 > Xbox
The PS3 has the potential to produce better games with better graphics. However, developers don't want to go through the shitfight that is working out how to program the thing to its full extent. The other issue is games are being made for the lowest common demoninator (Xbox or Wii) then porting over without improving the graphics or other gameplay elements.

Graphics aren't the be all and end all though.
Online - Xbox has it all over the PS3. It sucks trying to play games online on the ps sometimes. Playing GH, I know there are others trying to find a game, but because we don't have the exact same game settings, we don't get to play. A half decent lobby would improve that no end. Same with a lot of other games.

G4 Wrote:Given that Sony didn't make a note of it at its GamesCom press conference, most assumed the impending slimmer version of the PlayStation 3 would not have backwards compatibility with PlayStation 2 games. In the official press release announcing the new hardware, this suspicion has been confirmed: there is no compatibility.

"Note: This product is not compatible with PlayStation 2 games," reads the release.

Does this influence your thinking about the new model at all?

I still think we'll be getting Kingdom Hearts 3. There's no reason we shouldn't be. Also, regardless of what you thought about Resident Evil 5, which I agree sort of, the graphics were better on the Xbox 360. Which is unacceptable. Everyone states how the PS3 has more processors and can put out better graphics, well prove it. Another game the Xbox won over was Ghostbusters. It was beautiful on the Xbox, on the PS3 it's all choppy.

Also, while the Ps3 may have more "potential", I'd rather have the "now" console then invest $300 for a black brick to sit in my entertainment center. These price drops are good for both businesses. The Pro Xbox is getting Axed and the Elite is dropping down to $300. The Slim is going to be $300 to that makes the playing field more even. But I still bet you Sony loses more per console than Microsoft. A year from now I can still see the Wii being in 1st, the Xbox in 2nd and the PS3 not drastically far behind at 3rd.

I came when i read the PS3 Slim news, seriously.

Now, about dual release games looking better on the 360 and not the PS3...They are freaking LAZY PROGRAMMERS!!!!! The Ghostbusters "snaffue" was obvioulsy due to the laziness of porting the game from the 360 version to the PS3 version, because it is still easier to start out on the 360 and bring it over to the PS3. All games that were made on the PS3 first and then ported to the 360 looked better on the ps3 than the 360, because it was MADE for the PS3, and vice versa when made on the 360 first.

Well, first of all, I'd like to say, boo to no PS2 compatibility, but I don't really care, as I already have a PS2. It would just be a nice feature. But I would assume it'd eat into the profits on PS3 games.

Second, I'd like to point out two nice features of the PS3. Playstation Home and the Blu-Ray player. Playstation Home is a free online service for the PS3 compared to Microsoft's Xbox Live subscriber, and while there's very few available games to play on the Home network(1.3 patch is supposed to support ALL PS3 games), I hope it grows to something to rival that of Live. Live is an extremely useful online service and is probably used more often by gamers than the current state of PC games. But you gotta think here:The Xbox 360 is pretty much an extremely cheap computer. And a pretty darn good one at that.

The Blu-Ray player really shines for Sony as Microsoft had it's folly with the HD-DVD disaster. Most Blu-Ray players at this moment are in the price range of $150-$300 by themselves, which make the Sony a very attractive offering. But that only applies to people who don't rip all their movies off the internet/just buy regular DVD and play them on the Xbox 360 lol.

Really though, I don't see myself getting either. I don't have the TV to fully enjoy the "gawdly" graphics(which to me is actually a big point of discussion in the next gen systems) nor does Sony or Microsoft offer me anything more special than some good graphics, maybe a few hours of gameplay here and there, and a bunch of assholes on Xbox Live. I already have a DVD player, so that doesn't concern me at all. Now tell me when Project Natal gets here, and mayyybeee I'll buy a 360...

So you can wave your arms around like an idiot for 30 seconds trying to get it to move through the menus? Lzlz.

The reason things look better on the 360 is because they're made for the 360 first. >_> Then they port some pomegranatety version to the PS3, which isn't the console's fault.
