Controversial Threads

I don't think I'm the only one, but I love it when controversial threads sprout on SP or SW, you know, concerning hot topics in maple, such as leeching or the recent ele weapon changes.

I like arguing with people, it's amusing to me, and it helps pass the time at work. I may have my opinions but it doesn't mean I'm a zealot about which side I'm on; But I always make posts like I am obsessed with the topic as if its my only focus in life at that moment.

I was so happy when ele weapons were changed, a whole 40-something pages of people celebrating, and my favorite part, BISHOP RAAAAAGE!

So what about y'all?

Do you jump into topics that you only care so much about but argue to the bone anyways?

Well that's the point, I -don't- care all that much :o I care to a degree.

He still does that on SW.

^I don't mean that I care greatly about the subject; I mean that I've stopped caring enough to bother responding. A lot of times I'll glance over an interesting debate and not bother posting.

Ok, im not as bad as Harrisoned... xP I remember him well. He still posts on SW i think - Unless you mean he was banned recently.


Also, pineapple me, does anyone know Draconius, one of the SW mods? he posts wall'o'text like you wouldn't beleive xP He loves to argue as well.

It's kind of fun to argue with Harrison and Devil sometimes. Like testing how long you can seriously go before losing your mind. Regular debates themselves are fun, as well, but I don't like to get TOO involved in them. I don't care that much.

When I read debates, I have three things running through my head:

"Is this trolling?"
"Is this flaming?"
"Has the thread be derailed enough to be closed?"

I really don't participate in debates... but I believe eos's lobbying method works wonders.

For some reason I feel like you started this thread just to argue with people.

I like the odd controversial thread now and then. They often make a good read. More often than not a good laugh also.

I actually met a very good friend that way. Back when Basil was actually a good (LOLWUT?) forum with intelligent threads, my friend and I would argue about maxing HA. We argued in every single thread and even in PMs. We ran into each other at Coolies one day and shared a laugh and added each other. It is kinda funny, he stopped playing maple about a year ago because of college and came back a couple months ago after his school year finished. He apologized to me about our arguments. I cried and laughed, it was heart warming. Apologizing over something that happened years ago and over something that made us both look like f'ucking idiots haha. Ah, good times

I will debate if I think I can make a point. If I am proven to be wrong, then I will no longer post. I do not wish to make a fool out of myself. For example, in a debate with Quantact, after realizing he was the correct one, I withdrew and respected him for giving me the correct answer, that was it. No need to make an idiot out of yourself.

Does proving people on basil with wrong ideas and assumptions about the differing mage classes wrong count as "arguing"?

I.E.: "F/ps are better than I/l's solely because they can mist stronger monsters after TT"

Not saying F/ps are inferior or anything...but that's a really dumb reason.

First off, when Harrison wrote walls of text, they were generally walls because he likes to reply to everyone, not just pick one post and reply to it. Draconius on the other hand will resurrect the great wall of China against ONE person...

And I love controversial topics aswell. I love people's flawed logic, I love their ignorance, I love the fact they are misinformed, I love how they contradict themselves, I love their double standards, I love how very little people are able to keep their cool when arguing with me. Most of all, I love pointing it out

A good debate is AWESOME, be it internet or not.

Meh I will post if I feel like I have anything to add that isn't totally redundant and I feel strongly enough about it, or if someone posts information that simply must be corrected. =]

Usually I am just amused reading what other people have written and then making up my mind based on everything that's been said.

Lol some of these replies just make me LAUGH!

Usually, when any controversial threads come my way, im...... late at it.

15 pages and more, with EVERYTHING said/ flamed/ repeated/ etc etc, i have nothing new to add, so i dont post.
