Alright, I know everyone has seen the Great Debate on VH1. Well this is pretty much the same thing, except you get to post your feelings on this thread!
Ok let me lay down the rules for you or how things is gonne work.
1. I'll post something up, ex. Naruto vs. Dragon Ball Z 'whcih one owns' and for the next 20 post you guys get to say whatever you want about the two. Anything goes! Just keep arguing!
2 After every 20 pots (1 page) a new topic will be selected. I'll chose the topics so no one gets confused. If you have any good ideas PM me and Is}l give you credit for it. I can also keep your name protected if you think it wasn't good.
3. And thats pretty much it! Let's kick this mother Off!

Old School = Inventions
New School = Innovations
If I had to choose one I would go with New School since MS was made in New School and 80% or so of my music is New School.

New school, only because nostalgia << progress. As much as I think that FF13 will be less enjoyable for me than FF6, I'd rather have, say, Kitase Yoshinori work on the new game rather than mull over his past successes.
That and I don't really remember anything firsthand from the 'old school' era, because I was too young/have a poor memory.

I'm a retro kid so I gotta say Old School.
The shows were better, the technology wasn't as advanced, I was happier with my life.

I was born musically in the wrong generation. Joplin, Hendrix, Queen, Floyd.
Music today sucks and does not speak to me like the artists of 30-50 years ago did.
Gaming for each generation, however, is constantly advancing. New technology brings new capability - we have Spore, Scribblenauts for creative applications of ideas and infinite potential for inspiration, we have of course constantly advancing graphics and physics where applicable, and games have longer and longer lifespans of things to do after you finish the basic game. Older games of course were limited, but groundbreaking for their time.

Same with me, except make that like, 100-300 years ago. Music today DOES suck. Pretty badly.

I don't know. I'm equal for both really. I'm an 80's kid hardcore. Grew up on hair bands, no internet/computers (except for the Atari!) and played outside.

Indeed. The music that is inspirational takes the same themes and concepts of traditional music and applies it to modern life - romance, passion, misery, scorn - modern music simply lacks any real feeling, and comes accross as a child playing make believe while glancing at pictures of adults who truly lived the fantasy that they are so arrogant as to think they created.

I don't view today's music as real music. My definition of music is something that is man made. With all the technology put in to a song these days (honestly, can ANYONE sing live anymore?) I just view it as a load of fake garbage. The music if centuries ago is real. It is a true reflection of man's talent. They make those sounds all on their own. Also compositional knowledge is far greater. Nowadays people shove a vocal line on top of a few repeated chords and call it music. There's no counterpoint, there's no proper harmony. I love learning about proper music at University, and I love making it myself by playing the violin. Orchestra rehersals are awesome, because I appreciate how hard it is to write for an orchestra. It's like a jigsaw puzzle, making everything fit together in consonance, or even intentional dissonance. You have to be like a ticking clock, keeping perfectly in time with over 50 other people. THAT is the spirit of music.
