Monster Drop Hunting
#1
Let's say Monster A has 10 drops and Monster B has 6 drops. But both drop Item C.

If I were hunting for Item C, would it be wise for me to hunt Monster B for a greater chance of obtaining the item or would be there no difference from hunting either monster assuming neither Monster A nor Monster B are bosses/rare spawn?

Thanks in advance. Wink

well, B drops lesser items. Thus there will be less other items to interfere.

No. That's wrong. There's no limit to how many items a monster can drop. A monster that drops 1000 different items could still have the same chance to drop item Q as a monster who only drops item Q and nothing else. It all completely depends on the drop rates.

I don't think, all drops have pretty much the same droprate, so if you go for monster A you have more chance of getting other drops on your way there.

Hard to say, because it all depends on the monster. But it's certainly not based on the total amount of drops.

Who would drop Blue Neos more often, Skeleosaurus or Pianus? Pianus have more drops, thus by your theory, Skeleosaurus should drop a crapton of Blue Neos'.

If you avoid boss monsters, where would you train in order to gain a Pink Moon Conehead?

The right answer is the one that gives more xp and less hp of course.

Generally Bosses drop more items in total, thus more chances to get Item C. If you dislike bossing or are unable to boss (Various reasons for this) then the monster with the higher spawn or that is better training is your best option.

I would say that it all depends on luck. When 4th job came out and SE 20 was scarce, they were dropped by sharks + pianus. Some people would kill sharks for ages and not find one, then find one from one pianus. Others would kill 10+ pianus and not find it, then find one killing a shark on the way to pianus.

There's really no way of determining which monster (A or B) would give you better chances as it is, after all, purely up to chance. You could spend hours at A and find nothing, then walk past B and find it. Alternatively, you could find it at A in a few minutes, then never find another one for months.

My call? I'd flip a coin (because Im just that kind of person, lol).

Yeah, if it is a drop that is common to GMS and BrazilMS, certain people can tell you which monster is best >_>

I think the mob that drops less item will win o.O Assuming the drop rate for the item from both mobs is the same, and regardless of their spawn rate.

Think it this way, snowman drops 10kinds of scrolls, one of which is the GFA60% you wanted, yeti drops only 1scrolls, which is the GFA60%, and they have the same rate of dropping a scroll, you will more likely get the GFA60% from the yeti instead of the snowman.

Edit: I know it's much more complicated than this, but the general logic doesn't change I believe.

No, it's the same, assuming both monsters have the same drop rate. Each item has it's own individual chance of dropping when a monster dies, meaning that getting one item doesn't interfere with your chances of getting any others. There is the even smallest, tiniest, incredibly slim chance that a monster could drop all of it's drops at the same time. At least twice I've seen a single monster drop two equips.

I thought there were a limit of how many stuff one monster can drop at once o.o Like ores drop much more often than equips/scrolls, but I have never seen 2 ores of the same category(jewelry/mineral/crystal) dropped at the same time

Doesn't every item have a differing droprate for every monster that drops it? e.g. Monster A has a 0.0001% droprate of Item A and Monster B has a 0.00025% droprate of Item A. And because of this it's hard to tell what's best without trial and error? (Unless it's in the data somewhere...)
